  • I continue where I left of in my previous video about left hand and right hand symbolism, where now I discuss the idea of authority and power or direct and indirect influence. I use iconography and other images (like the royal scepter and orb) as examples to expound on this symbolism.

You have brought me out of the woods. I was hopeless and empty for the past three years when I tried to understand the importance of Christianity. I went from church to church finding only what I could find outside the church. Members of the church view the bible through the lens of the outside world and live an incoherent life. I discovered what most preachers preached was what I was hearing from hip-hop artists, celebrities, politicians, etc... Their message as a whole was a motivation. To me, the bible became like all the other books and Christianity less important. At the beginning of the year, I made an attempt to join Islam but encountered what had brought me there in the first place. To make the story short, I encountered Dr. Jordan Peterson's works, his podcast, and you, and I found the significance of the bible, the church, and Christ. I thank you for your content, it is really helpful, and it has found us in South Africa as well. God save the king, and God bless.

Deeply resonated with your right & left symbolism videos - the concept beautifully illustrated in the Yin Yang symbol. In this video you mentioned the Unicorn and the Lion. Years ago I worked in Boston; our offices were directly across from the Old State House (built in 1713, it was the seat of the Massachusetts General Court until 1798). On the peak of the front gable are magnificent carvings of a Lion and Unicorn.

Good insights! Keep in mind too that as the shift in Trinitarian theology in the Filioque was assimilated deeply into Western culture, it began to cause problems in its jurisprudence as the nature between the relationship of "right/left hand" was muddled due to the Son sharing in the Father's role as Cause of the Spirit instead of His participating in the "sending forth" or "procession" of the Spirit, Who gathers and inspires the many to glorify and love the Father through the Son. This very Trinitarian muddling reduced the hierarchy of earthly authorities into something akin to Hindu caste system or a Platonic "Chain of Being", whereby the "higher" are ontologically superior than the "lower" rather than the "higher" lovingly sacrificing themselves and seeing themselves as lower than the "lower" as Christ showed. Both extremes in the form of fascism and communism, can't mediate because they are enmeshed in this flawed Western way of thinking which is ultimately a "closed" or endocosmic system and not properly "open" to Divine Activity directly

I think that the problem with just seeing these as fractal patterns obscures the fact that these patterns become incarnate in people like St Peter and St Paul and in social roles. So the saints in this case are not just "stand-ins" but rather manifestations in which you can identify these patterns, and this gives the patterns a sort of "forensic" explanation, as if you were pointing to an organ in the body. In that sense I would slightly challenge the idea that it's "like a poem". It is a system, but an embodied one. And yes, some of the patterns are subtler. But they are identified in the concrete examples to the degree they embody them if it makes any sense. Otherwise it's just authoritas without potestas, it becomes a disembodied voice (like modernity).

Prophecy is the individualizing of the revolutionary impulse, as wisdom is the individualizing of the law, and prophecy is geared to the future as wisdom is to the past. The Logos stands between the prophets and the law.

    • @NeanderdeOliveira
      @NeanderdeOliveira Před rokem

Yes! Paul talks about how prophecy was given to reveal our hearts. And that’s the reason given to the king in Daniel chapter 2 when interpreting the dream: that you may know your heart.
I’ll add that any future outlook that doesn’t tug on the heart strings of us here and now, isn’t functioning as intended. Modern prophecy speculations usually devolves into silly excuses of pointing outwards towards others and fear mongering. But I believe the signs given are meant to arouse the heart toward the time’s needed change.

So might wants to serve authority since both humble them-self in the image of Christ.

Hey Jonathan. Love your videos and want to say you helped awaken my symbolic mind and hope to share some things the lord brought to me. This video was interesting but seemed to conflict with how I’ve perceived the authority and power to be.
My pastor has described power as the ability to carry out an action and authority to be the justification to do it. Often giving the example that we all have the power to run a red light, but police have the authority to do it. This given by law. In the video it shows the right hand of authority and left of power, but in the representation of each one, the right hand seemed to always be “doing”. Pointing, telling, blessing. Which are all things of power. Something that doesn’t necessarily need authority. Where the left hand hold the scroll. Which would be the law. That law is the basis of which the power is justified which would seem to be the authority. Which is why I see conflict.
“Do this(power/right hand) because I have this (Authority/ left hand).” As the scroll/ law book isn’t moving. And is the thing that often becomes stale, as the law often loses its power when seen as outdated or archaic. At the same time, power always “exists” but without the scroll/law it becomes… lawless. Witchcraft. As rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, we can see that’s what any spiritual power (or any action at all) is when not grounded in Gods Law.
Ironically I’ve seen politics in the way that you put it: right having authority and left having power. Right wing Christian’s, often seen as pharisaical when keeping strict to the law and what’s authoritative while the left seems to be more charismatic/ open to the spiritual, turning to witchcraft if the law becomes archaic/restrictive. But in the middle, you see a balance of both, Godly spiritual power and the authority of the law of which it stands on. Which is what Elijah and Moses always looked like to me. Elijah manifesting so much of Gods raw power and Moses having the backing of Gods commandments

A previous video mentioned that the "left-hand" principle as susciting an excentric response (away from the centre) and the "right-hand" principle a concentric one (towards the centre). Hopefully, this will help make sense of the whole power/authority duality.
As for politics, although a duality can indeed be observed, both sides (Left and Right) actually illustrate tenets of authority and manifestations of power.

This maps beautifully onto 12th century Kabbalistic tradition: the necessity of equilibrium between the two opponents, for example Cain and Abel. The relationship is the problem and the answer, not the person. Christ heals through conversation and attention. Attention of the right hemisphere: vigilant, aware, broad, contextualizing. He provides space for life.
It also maps onto Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which was developed for people with high sensitivity who experience severe emotional dysregulation and non-cognition: wise mind is integration of the intellect and emotions, Abel holding out a hand to Cain.

Love your videos, and not to sound pedantic, I’m pretty sure authority is on the left, not right - holding the book = authorship aka authority, the book is after all a living book. Right hand is power, the pointer, since it’s literally what we use to act - to do work.
Christ sits on the right hand of God, the receptive to the Godhead - the living Word of God the father, which is repeated in Rev 5:1, hence Christ represents the power of God, since he literally does the work manifesting in human form. The left hand represents the Holy spirit, the authority of God, which we are told not to blaspheme against. It is hardly mentioned, like the Holy Spirit since it’s like air / wind and subtle in its nature. Left hand is also seen as the support, the authority which supports power, in Songs, the left hand is emphasized to be under the head.
Left hand is also compared to love in Acts, “now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand” where Cyprus is translated as love.
Love has always been the authority of God, the seven spirits represent the graces of God - repeated again in John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son. It is through love, the Living Word was authored.
You see the same in Sacred heart imagery, where the left hand points at the heart, or holds the heart - pretty certain the love of God represents authority of God, love is written on the hearts of mankind. The fruits of the spirit all have to do with love, with love mentioned as its firstfruit …
Corrupting the left hand path is always seem more negatively since it’s blasphemes against the spirit and ultimately the love of God.

Thou shalt also be a crown of glory (a crown of beauty) in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.
    Isaiah 62:3
God will display his people, his work, to an admiring world, as a man might exhibit a "crown" or "diadem" which he held in his hand. They will look on with admiration and reverence - "for they shall perceive that it is his work" (Psalm 64:9)

I love that saying about the Jesus’s inner circle, and what He entrusted to each. To John, His Mother, to Peter, His Church, to James… Spain! The Evangelists of the Globe, the Empire that brought Christ to the Nations. The farthest a Christian Empire has ever reached.

The problem I have with this analysis is that it falls apart the farther you move away from the symbolic to the actual. Do traditionalists exist who hold to an older form of authority? Absolutely. Do left wing intellectuals exist who want to tear down everything inherited in order to build the theoretical and untested? Absolutely. Do either of those groups have a persuasive hold on a significant portion of the body politic in 2022? Absolutely not. Let’s narrow the range of discussion to feminism. There’s a lot of arguments online between traditionalists and feminists. In actuality, who did the traditionalists end up voting for but Donald Trump. Is Donald Trump a traditionalist? No. Is Donald Trump a Christian? No. Does Donald Trump believe in God? Unclear, but probably not. Donald Trump is appealing to traditionalists because he appointed judges who are themselves traditionalists, but he’s also popular with a much larger crowd who aren’t traditionalist or churches but who hate feminism because they view feminism to be a bigger threat to pornographic American values than Christianity. I don’t know why both sides focus only on each other (who at least are advocating their own brands of morality) than on the much larger nihilistic and disgusting culture that most Americans not only live in but celebrate

Modern authority, it doesn't deserve respect or submission.
