- Restoration Hardware DIY ANTIQUE MIRROR / How-to steps for under $50!
Hello lovelies!
Welcome back to the channel. This week I put together another DIY project inspired once again by Restoration Hardware. I really fell in love with a particular image in the catalog that featured an antique style mirror. I set myself up to run to my local Loews/Home Depot to purchase the supplies to make a similar video. The materials all were under $50 total. Guys, this project was easy and saved me thousands on what the real one would have cost! I hope you found a little inspiration in this video and set out to make your very own mirror. Remember, you can go as light or as heavy and use any color to make your own mirror.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
4X4 PLYWOOD ( or any sturdy wood board)
CitriStrip (1 entire bottle for this project)
Rubber gloves
Plastic and/or metal scrapers
Caulk adhesive w/caulk gun or any industrial glue for mounting the tiles
2 cans of whatever color spray paint you like (I used matte black)
2 cans of whatever color paint for the wood board (you can roll paint too)
1 5 foot metal wire for hanging
2 eyelet screws to secure the wire
2 metal crimps to fasten the wire and secure it
Crimping tool to squeeze the crimps
1/2 cup of bleach
1/2 cup of water
water bottle
any sponges/napkins to create patterns (optional)
I recommend spraying from very high if you want a more subtle look.

Hey there I’ve done a lot of mirrors, a good tip for you. Instead of using a brush to put on the citrus stuff, use a contractor roller. You can keep going over it until the paint starts coming off to limit the amount of scraping. Got to use a lot of stripper!!!!! I’ve never had to scrape cause I was able to use a hose to spray it off. Hope this helps.
Great tip 👍
It’s so beautiful! I just remembered I retired from DIY projects, I’m just going to watch your videos.
Lynnette Bond oh no lol!! Well ok I appreciate you watching love! You’re too funny! 🤍
I did the same thing several years ago using the beveled mirror tiles. Mine was 4x8 ft. My son-I-law did it in December in the garage and put wide crown molding around it. It was spectacular! We used mirror mastic to attach the tiles and butted them tightly together and hung it above the fireplace. It was everything I thought it would be, and better. The fireplace was on, the room spectacular, then- one by one the mirrors started to crack. They were butted too closely together in a very cold garage, and when they warmed they expanded. Ruined. Maybe I’ll do it again, sometime in the summer heat. Learn from a fail, friends!
FYI you can achieve a much quicker mirror distressing by spraying oven cleaner on the backs of the mirrors, letting it sit for about 30 minutes and then just wiping it with a towel. I did this a few years back and it worked perfectly. Love the idea for the large mirror though looks fantastic!
oh awesome! Thanks for sharing that great tip Stephanie! ☺️
You and Your husband are GOALS. He is so supportive with your ideas, you both are so talented. Namastey to your hubby.

Jasleen Kaur thank you sweetheart, you’re always so supportive! 🤍🤍
Another day, another luxury DIY slayyyy 🔥
Notification squad this is how a Friday is suppose to be spent.
haha awesome! Thank you! ☺️
looks good, an easier way is to spray water on the front of the mirror and then lightly use a metallic spray point over certain spots you want to have the distressed look, then blot a little with a paper towel and let it dry
@euro_babe Would you still use the glass tiles and scrape the paint off them first?
The mirror turned out so beautiful. You have amazing talent.
Out of Sight, Liz you have magnificent imagination and your husband does also.

I’ve been researching how to DIY this kind of mirror for DAYS and finally stumbled upon your channel and video. I am SO glad I found it! I’m hoping to get the courage up to attempt this. I want a BIG rectangle mirror for my dining room (6x4 feet) and I’m hoping this will work! Thank you :D
I'm so glad! You will do GREAT! There really is not wrong way here, the bleach does the work for you, use it sparingly if you want a minimal touch of antiquing or dab on the edges for a more focused look. Good luck! ☺️
Liz Besanson thank you!! I’ll keep you posted if I start this soon 😊🤍

You know you could have saved yourself a lot of hard work by purchasing a mirror antiquing kit. I got mine from Amy Howard Home and took her class on antiquing mirrors. The kit has two cans of product. The first can quickly removes the paint - usually black - on the back side of the mirror so you can put your etched design on the mirrored silver glass. Very fast, very easy. There are other mirror antiquing kits on the market besides Amy Howard's. Once you have the glass the way you want it, there is a black paint that you roll on to finish it. You can also stencil a design on the glass. My favorite is a Greek Key design.
yes I used one of those kits a long time ago but not everyone worldwide has access to these products so I made it easier for all to just use a mirror and remove the backing with any kind of stripper. Thanks for watching the video!☺️
Such a gorgeous mirror, Liz❣ Thank you.🤍
By the way in the description below the video in the SUPPLIES NEEDED: missing 3X boxes of mirror tiles, 12x12 size.
oh my goodness lol!! I would totally forget that (face palm) 😂
Where were the mirrors bought?
Beautiful!!!!!
Thank you!!
I don’t get the first part of the video what were you removing from the glass ?
Thank you beautiful mirror!
Thank you for watching Lori! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
When you put the stripper on is that the back of the mirror it looks like it but I want to be sure. Thanks
Yes the back part that’s dull ☺️
Wow looks good!
Thank you! ☺️
Turned out too well, fantastic job👍🏼
Edward Rodriguez thank you friend!! ☺️
Hi! Why did you use citrus stripper on the back of if you were just going to glue it to the board and it will be hidden? I'm trying to recreate this and wondering if I can skip that step and just distress the front of the mirror?
Stunning
Thank you! 😊
FABULOUS!! ~Pamela
Pamelabous thank you Pam!! 🤍
Wonderful! Love it! Any tips to avoid so much work? Simplifying ? Too much for me as a first time diyer . Love it!!!
Where did you get the glass tiles?
Im new to your Channel!!!! Love YOUR Style!!!! This hack is Brilliant!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Esther!! And welcome, happy to have you here! ☺️☺️
Very beautiful. Good work
Thank you very much
Amazing 🤩
OMG amazing job!! You are so inspiring person. Love you creativity.I'm definitely going to try it! Could you tell me how big the tiles are? 👍
Monika W thanks Monika!! They are 12x12 tiles! Please share with me when you do it! 🤍
Just one advice for your next mirror project . When you put the orange stripper ,put a lot and live for even few or over night. Then remove the entire top layer without force. Good luck on you next project 🤗
It helps if you put down the CitriStrip down and then put Saran Wrap over it. This keeps the moisture in the stripper.
What a beautifully done project and for such a great price too!! I’m definitely going to have to do this one. I didn’t notice, did you finish the edges of the backer board in any way?
Thanks Londa! I just mentioned in the video that I spray painted the entire board all around including the edges. It was just solid black but anyone can add trim to it if they wanted to take the design a step further. Thanks for watching! ☺️
I don’t understand- did you put the stripper on the reflective mirror side or back side of mirror?
the back side there will still be silver film in the back what you're removing is the painted back side.
Absolutely beautiful! I definitely seeing myself trying this. How many hooks did you use to hang this?
thank you! I use only 2 eye hooks, very easy screw in and then pull your wire through and crimp the ends to secure. ☺️
Great Job!
Thank you friend! ☺️
Wow, loved this! What are you stripping from the mirror with scraper... I’m a little confused there?
its in the video babe, watch slowly everything is explained if you want to know ☺️
Why did you have to paint the wood too in addition to the backs of the mirrors? Were you still able to see the wood through the painted mirrors?
Edges
It’s just beautiful. How anyone could give it a thumbs down is beyond me. This lady has gone to so much trouble to teach us how to do this. If you don’t like it, just leave. Thank you 🙏🏻 for sharing this fabulous diy and for helping us save money.
Thank you friend, the internet is a place where people feel empowered to be negative, it does something within them. It’s actually what they do all day, everyday..we call them “trolls” they seek to attempt to bring a bad word in or a thumbs down when it actually all their engagement is doing is not hurting me but putting more dollars in my pocket. So in essence, we welcome the bad with the good. The more they hate the more money goes into my account 😂 they just aren’t smart enough to know that since most of them are underage or down right bored at home with no life individuals. I appreciate your sweet concern but this is normal. 🤍
Beautiful
Thank you ☺️
I’m desperately trying to source these large mirror tiles ! HLP PLEASE 😢
Wow! The mirror came out just like the RH mirror!! Amazing diy😊 this is totally unrelated question, but I found similar chandelier like yours online and since I am doing a total transformation on my home, I want to purchase it but my question is does it give enough light? What are your thoughts on the chandelier. I would love one but I do want it to give enough light. Thank you love! Amazing video I enjoyed it so so much! ❤️
it all depends on the bulbs you put into it..chandeliers don't come with lightbulbs. You control the ambience of the light. I have low watt bulbs in mind I think 40 watts so its very ambient in the room but it you need brighter, then go up in watts. ☺️
Amazing
Thank you!! ☺️
Great job
Thank you so much! ☺️
Gorgeous! Can I ask how you hang it?
The supplies are in the image where I show everything I used ☺️ its eyelets /crimps and wire
Where did you get your tiles? Where there mirror tiles?
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Okay, when do we get the house tour? Loving all the recent vids! :)
there's 2 on my channel, they are broken up! one is the 3 room reveal and the other I believe is titled "home tour"? ☺️
Love your videos Liz ,you should 100% make another channel 💗

Liz Besanson that’s great!

What mirrors are these?
Myrielle Bienvenu Hi Myrielle, I mentioned they are from Loews but Home Depot has them also. ☺️
Liz Besanson thanks, I rewatched it and I so missed that!!!
Aloha, where are the mirrors from?
Natalie Kwart Hi Natalie, I mentioned they are from Loews! ☺️
Where is your table from beautiful got a quick peek?
Restoration Hardware! ☺️
I like to watch your Videos.the mirror is besutiful, but a lot of work
Can you do like dupes for dining tables everything’s is so expensive above 1,000 for just a table 😭
They have mirror caulk
How much was the one at restoration hardware? This is beautiful.
It's thousands of dollars lol! And thank you so much! ☺️❤️
Caulking glue will "stain" in due time. Use mirror mastic
Was hoping it was the chandelier you were working on🤷🏾♀️ but beautiful project
naturally Char ah maybe another video, that would be super ambitious tho! Thanks for watching! 🤍
I see you are using plain mirror tiles. What is it that you are stripping off of the tiles...the actual mirror coating? Help
The backs of the mirror have a paint coating. Thats the part you want to remove. You will have some kind of film like substance but the bleach/water effect will still work through that. You just have to get the back color off..in my case it was the grey paint on the backs. After the bleach I then cleaned them up and took them out to spray them in black to seal but you can use a pretty gold or silver metallic for a nice look too. ☺️
