If Newcastle hadn't been absolutely decimated by injuries this season, the league performance & position would be on par with last year if not better.
I've supported since late 80s & I've never known anything like it......unfortunately due to FFP, we've not been allowed to adapt & react as a short-term solution.
At any point in this season after around October, we could've put out a very competitive 11 made up of the players unavailable.
Things are very much still on track at the club; I refuse to believe the wealthiest club owners in world football are settling for the current status quo & will be spending significantly in the background to overcome this artificial "closed shop" arrangement at the upper end of the Premier League

Before we think of selling our best players to our rivals - 1) remember how they treated our club with cynical emergency prem league meeting votes. 2) weren’t we supposed to be building a great side, not depleting it? 3) If our best are to be sold because of (anti competition) ffp, sell them to the likes of PSG, Real Madrid.
Yes - we do need a clear out of dead wood though - and Bruno, Isak, Botman etc aren’t in that category.

@@bartman01021988 It's the amortisation effect, so you buy a player on a 5 year contract, the cost is / 5 and only 3 years is taken into account with FFP/FSR/whatever, however if you sell the entire sum counts as income for the given year, hence selling Maxi meant being about to get multiple players like Barnes, Livramento etc. Only profit counts, so buying Isak for 63m and selling for say 100m only means 37m income as profit, selling Academy players like Longstaff for say 20m is 20 million in profit as they didn't cost anything to buy. With a 20m player sale you can buy about 50 million or so in new players for that season

The caller was right about one things. FFP is utterly broken if a club like Newcastle have to sell one or more of the three world class players they have just so they can fill in the gaps of their squad once Dummet, Longstaff, and Almiron are let go. If the Premier League want Newcastle to go backwards, and ensure the clubs that come up from the Championship are unable to compete to even survive, then they're going about it the right way.

I'm a Spurs fan, and I can see the point, but a lot will depend upon Newcastle's ability to spend in the summer. Partially because to encourage Isak to stay they will need to bring in players to improve the squad, but also because if they are still sailing close to the wind with FFP, they will need to sell before they can buy. Isak could become a key player to help Spurs make the next step if he went there, and I think that's how the move would be sold to him. If Arsenal come in for him though (as has been rumoured), I think he'll go there.
