"I'm Masmorra"
"And I'm TheViper"
...
"I'M DAUT"

Strong start
The lord has lag.
i love how he was just there and suddenly his mind goes "oh yeah i should present myself"
daut and viper never miss a chance to friendly bash each other which makes their interactions always funny
They are funny rivals- AOE2 community is like a small town where everyone knows each other well
Viper quoting chat and then being proven wrong by Daut is the content we needed
My favourite podcast to date. While dauti is portrayed as the meme/ funny guy to the general community, it's refreshing to see him explain things seriously and show how his brain works. He is a legend of the game and has been effectively immortalized in the game. Much love to dauti, I'll always enjoy seeing him win.
Also, to the GL team, great content! Dauti being here made me wonder if there is a possibility of bringing the old ogs to the pod where they can share their stories and experiences. There's a lot of aoe lore that newer fans may be missing out on, and it'll bring in a sense of belonging to this already tight knit community. Cheers!
I love daut he is just so charming and fun
Daut's words about being at home for his kids' big and small moments were really touching ! Love it
At 10:17 where Viper says, 'Margougou will quote that,' my phone activated because it thought it was my voice saying, "hey google, call dad"
Omg same!
@tuuZhao Hell Yeah. Brothers in the only way that matters.
i definitely wanna see more team tourneys, we had them back when tyrant was dominant and they were still very enjoyable
aside from being an amazing player GL gotta keep daut for their own content, dude is always the funniest in any room
Btw, in case anyone is wondering, the series Daut is talking about around @22:00 seems to be TyRanT vs RVK in the Grand Finals of WCL7 (World Clan League 7), from 2011
Is there a recorded game of that?
@@FoolishBubbles I havent tried to download and run them yet, but if you look for "WCL7 Grand Final Stage R5 TyRanT vs RVK" you'll probaly land into an aoezone thread with downloadable recs
@@FoolishBubbles Makes me think whether there's any chance current gl might eventually cast theese while discussing the history - sounds to me like it could be great for the scene, yo know?
@@user-sl6gn1ss8p Recorded games can be found at AoeZone but no one cast them live back then. I agree with you that it would be great if someone could revisit those games and cast them. That TyRanT vs RVK was such a classic series where the old legends won by strategy and teamwork (kind of like TyRanT vs AM the grand final of Battle of Africa 1)
@@FoolishBubbles Just tagging you because yeah, as @tomcheung4796 said you can find an AoeZone thread with them
On TG tournaments; I do agree with Nelson to a certain degree that there is some potential that has not been fully achieved. Of course, I am biased, but the potential of Nations Cup is absolutely huge. People love to cheer for their country and it's a very basic concept that nearly everyone understands and can pull in casual viewers. Brazil vs Argentina got amazing coverage in the previous edition.
4v4 can definitely be confusing. There is definitely a lot to keep up with. It also doesn't help with the lack of TG tournaments. Casting 1v1 and TG is VERY different and takes time to adjust and is much better suited co-casting too imo. It's definitely up to the caster to try and make this as digestible as viewers as best as they can. This should always be a major concern for casters as there is a lot going on. Maybe togglable team colours would be nice feature for Capture Age to implement just like in game.
I feel like in TG you almost need co casters who each have different focuses to catch everything, or you focus on one player. 4v4 Nomad can be good if a few players are booming and only a few are fighting. But if everyone is fighting, it's way too overwhelming.
For the colors in team games, I have always thought that having one team have blue-like colors (#1 blue, teal, soft purple and soft pink) and red-like colors (red, orange, light brown, yellow) could work. Thx for the great content btw!
That is what they try, with the present colors. Red, orange, yellow and brown? vs green, blue, teal and purple?. Probably still too much contrast
Isn't it basically hot colors vs cool colors currently?
" It's not me, it's him "
" Who's him? "
" The day" lmaoooooo 11
THE LORD
To the point about Nations Cup, i do miss T90's World Cup Tournaments. They were amazing and potentially having a ''League'' or a Tournament like that again in this day and age where there are so many more players and players from the same Nations would make it even more incredible then it was back then! We need to see a Nations Cup, a Nations League, World Cup of Sorts way more regularly
Loved hearing more about Dauts history and the tournament history in generell ❤
2X / month is siiiick. Also one of the best podcast hosts in gaming, Masmorra.
Agree with the minimap stuff, in particular if you are slightly color blind, it is impossible to tell some of the colors apart in teamgames.
This history lesson is so awesome to hear. Shows you how long this game has already been going.
Daut is correct. Someone did the math on reddit. The hp regen is a buff for all unit expect in imp.
Viper had a tough time accepting Daut was right.. 11 "I accept" 😂
45×0.15=6.75
Compared to 5 in Feudal
Yeh, it should be a buff. Slight nerf to Hussar in imperial age, and it requires the Blood lines and Light Cav upgrade to be a buff in Castle.
@@whossname4399 Also strictly buffes the knight line, monaspa in Castle age, and fully upgraded monaspa in Imperial
it nerfs cav archers slightly but that doesn't matter as much as HUGE buff to knight line or to feudal scouts.
SO HYPED for podcasts more often!!! always watch them within the day they come out, top tier content
🥇2 Episodes a month 🎉❤🎉
This was great to watch/listen 😀 And you asked my question - thanks!
Always amazing to see you guys interact
So glad to listen to this. Interesting and entertaining.
About the team game as a caster discussion, I think that it is a point where having multiple observers and having a production team can bring a lot of value .
You could have both mapu and vodka observing the game, and then having a third person choosing which point of view to send to the caster.
Like in other esports where they'll switch from first person views to third person views all the time. You just need more angles with more going on.
I was gonna suggest observers to actually hurt team game tourneys because normally you'd have 2 screens (caster and co-caster) but your suggestion is way better! Good thinking!
This also opens the possibility of opting for a split view in key moments. Like if there are two large fights happening the same time or each teams is pushing a different side and both are kind of on a clock to do damage, stuff like that.
Also, it would probably be easy to recoup some interesting action or do a little picture-in-picture stuff.
Like, not all the time, so it doesn't get overwhelming, and I get that it is a lot of work and more production overall, but I think it could end up really nice and it might help a lot to make team games more digestible.
Another great episode!! Keep up the good work!!
great episode as usual, keep up the great work guys
Such a legend. We are so lucky to have Daut. Great podcast, glad you are making it more frequent!
Something like Capture Age could have a custom minimap which uses team colors, different colors for buildings and vils (like, more muted), plus some icons (say, castles, tcs), while the main game window and scores keep player colors (but maybe also adding an outline as suggested or tinted shadow or something), right?
So you get a simple overview at a glance but you can also understand who is doing what.
Always great to see Daut in these, love it.
Below is list of all main menu, how many times they have been downloaded and number of major patches between each main menu update.
Based on these I would assume a player base of ~400-500 thousand. You will notice that a lot of patches have been between the main menu with the highest number of downloads. For main menu of 28 Sep 2022, there was a patch just a week after this, thus the download number isn't double but slightly higher. For mountain DLC(30 Oct 2023 main menu), there was a patch after 5 weeks which should almost double the downloads.
You cannot go from 950,000 player base to 592,000 and then 1,000,000 in just a matte of few months. More likely is that each patch causes the main menu to download again and depending on how far apart the patches are from the main menu release, the number can be multiplied by 1.1X to 1.7 or 1.8X. I would say that the player base might be slowly increasing from 400,000 to maybe 500,000 or 550,000.
Or I may be talking out of my ass as it is 2 in the night here but I considered doing this analysis of the utmost importance. Patch download numbers taken from the mod menu by sorting from max and patches history available here -steamdb.info/app/813780/patchnotes/

Love your podcasts, keep doing them.
Underrated comment
I'm almost sure you don't have to re-download mods after a new patch, you simply have to re-enable them...
On top of that I think you don't even have to re-enable them anymore, they fixed that!
Official main-menus after big DLC's will always have more downloads because DLC's obviously have more appeal than a simple random celebratory event!
But maybe I'm misunderstanding your post...
@@MasmorraAoE My point was that if we assume the main menu player number as the number of players then there is extremely high variance in player numbers in very short time frames. 16th May Main menu has less than 600k downloads. I don't think the player base almost doubled in just 6 months. Thus, I felt that the number may be slightly inflated due to something and my theory was that something may have been patches. But if it wasn't, I am the happiest to know that there are more players playing. It's just more opportunities for me to FC into gg
Daut as always such an awesome man
Interesting conversation. I really enjoyed it!
Another great podcast, Daut is always so funny. Although now I want to see a bo5 mixed map showmatch with Daut and Viper with Daut only going Georgians and Viper any other civ no repeat.
Also, Viper did tell Daut not to sign up to the RF tournament 😂
Thank you Daut, i remember watching the red bull wololo and how you beat lierry - great series!
Thanks for the beautiful content❤
Keep the content coming and good luck to all of you
Daut is scientifically the best person ever.
Love Daut, love Viper, together they're fantastic. Another great episode.
Can commiserate with Dauti on the hand. Sliced a kitchen knife between my middle and pointer finger on my mouse hand, severing the nerve, and it's been numb/pins and needles ever since. But only on one side of the fingers. Nerve damage is odd. My fingers are theoretically fully functional, bend, have full strength, and yet.. not. I randomly drop stuff. Sometimes I try to click the mouse and it's not hard enough to register. Apparently they can regrow and heal themselves. Unfortunately they grow so slowly it could take 30 years. So look out 2050s AOE ladder, 70 year old me is gonna be a force to reckon with!
I have a Suggestion For a Tournament: a 2 vs 2 Tournament with the following Rules.
Every participant of the Tournament Is RANDOMLY drawed with His teammate. For example Hera with sitaux, Viper with vinch and daut with accm.. and so on. That will make IT also More competitive and also random, that There is a bigger Chance For the top 8-16 Players to win the Tournament.
Also, IT Would lead to the Players Play with Players theyre maybe Not Used to Play so often with. So it Brings the aoe Scene / Players even More together.
Before watching I can say this is amazing.
Love it and love the change to twice a month. Then after your success to move it to once a week!
11 will see ;)
Would loove to see another team tournament, so much fun to watch these
I actually much prefer watching team games with all the chaos involved and what seems like a greater potential for comebacks and surprises/sneaks etc. Lyx and Rubenstock bring so much fun to the game. Recent 1v1 tournaments have felt somewhat clinical by comparison.
I want a podcast for every bug introduced with every new patch.
Daut is the best thing to happen in the universe.
I’d like in the future that there’ll be a feature where you can click on the mini map as you please to look at what you want as a viewer , with a return key to go back to where the caster is watching. This could help team games.
Regarding the minimap discussion starting from 16:30... Maybe adding a slight pale tone to the buildings on the minimap, compared to the units, might help viewers recognize activity a bit more? This can be done even outside of the game through CaptureAge maybe. Would that help with team-games not getting too confusing to follow?
dude I felt the EXACT same way about the series masmorra talked about at 1:08:50
For the team game mini map issue, the issue can be highly mitigated if there is an option to just show all military units from all players. Currently whatever player you select, it shows their villagers and random buildings as well
Maybe a custom minimap on Capture Age's side, which uses team colors and a more washed-out color for building and brighter for military, along with icons for TCs and castles, would be nice?
The team game color problem can somewhat be solved by collaboration between multiple casters to give viewers options. One stream can use team colors, another stream shows player colors.
For team game tournaments they should do a little promo for each player on each team so that the audience knows who is playing.
I agree with DauT's point that RTS games are generally meant to be played as 1v1s but I think this could be fixed in team tournaments with one simple thing: INTERESTING MAP DESIGNS!
for team game tournaments, i think same colours for players would not be that good, but maybe introduce shades of colours for these games?
I dont care what the tournament is, will turn up to watch as long as great entertainers like viper and Daut and mbl are there. And then maybe Margougou 11
The way to make team games more accessible for viewers is to split the screen into 4x. Or give viewers the option to choose which player + webcam they want to watch in real time. That would be a pretty unique experience.
You are killing it with these podcasts, they are super fun. It's a bit of a shame that you recorded just before the news about aM, it would have added something new to the team game tournament discussion. I'd love to see a 3v3 team game tournament, but I think it would need a different style of casting - it would perhaps be more like one of those shows trying to summarise multiple football games at the same time - perhaps Dave is covering the left flank, Memb is covering the right flank, and T90 is directing the viewers attention between them and the different fights? I think it could be the most fun to watch, but it would take real skill and co-ordination between the casters to make it work properly.
showing my support
!
Regarding the multiplayer teams part, Daut has it right. Not only this is an RTS, it's also one with every one of the 8 players potentially reaching 200 population, + buildings etc. Even in Starcraft you don't go that far, so it's much easier to see stuff in the minimap.
But back in the day even Warcraft 3 team games of the "serious" nature were only 2vs2, and the casting in those games was good because it would still be possible to follow the action even if it's happening in several places. In AoE 2 a 2vs2 game could be hard to follow and cast at times.
AoE 2 team tournament team games should be more on the 2vs2 side I think. 4vs4 is just too chaotic.
2 episodes a month? Now they have to give SoTL a spot! :D
He is always welcome
I will love to see the final where Daut's team beat Viper's team, is in some place in the matrix a rec or video?
Just to coment for Daut, i started at 3 years old playing AOE2, i only could beat the celts tutorial misions back then but i had fun.
This episode wasn't yet on spotify, my go-to podcast platform. Please upload.
The Spotify upload is always 48 hours after the CZcams upload. Episode is now on Spotify as well.
@@GLAgeOfEmpires Alright, good to know. Thanks!
On sudden death game mode: I would love it if some other game modes like sudden death or with a king could be played via the ranked ladder. Just one or two maps in the map pool, not even every rotation.
The lord comes down from the heavens of Dubai to enrich the podcast, best epsiode so far
There is only 1 Lord and his name is Jesus Christ
@@youcanthandlethetruth5433well some people in the world might have that opinion
@@youcanthandlethetruth5433 Not true, misinformation.
Lyx being one of the best teamplayers proves that 1v1 and Team are 2 different games
Great show, thanks. What was the name of the player they were reminiscing over at the end?
We all know that the viper is good player all other things but still it is great to hear from Daut I think he entertain us more then any other aoe2 players
22:45 - its on the cusp, Viper, not brisk 😅
Great chat!
On Georgian healing, Daut is right isn’t he? About 6 HP per minute early on vs 5, then going for knights in castle getting 15 per minute?
Maybe it's just me but I like to watch team game tournaments way more. They just have so much action and possible back-and-forths that attracts you all the time so you can go watch for hours without being bored. Players have optimized 1v1 so much nowadays that it is usually either heavily punishing mistake or faster uptime into GG, I found it hard to follow entire games in HC. And I don't think teamgames are hard to follow is a problem. It's exactly why it's fun to watch.
Co-op team tournaments are the solution, as a 4v4 could translate to a 2v2, viewer can follow more action and gets entertained by the struggle and the mess of co-op. If viewer doesn't know one player, he might know the other who with he's co-oping. Also if you see the co-op showmatches that have been played, it's crazy fun for the players too. Just an idea.
I dont think the negative reviews will impact the decisionmaking on making new DLC's. Most people having a positive experience won't think about reviewing it while people being frustated will be much more likely to review it.
Im pretty sure they'll continue singleplayer-focused DLC, it just might be after a new-civ DLC again
Because next time they can't take as much of those custom campaigns into the official DLC, they might even make new campaigns instead of scenarios so it'll be fresh content and the pricing might stay the same, so it'll be received more positively. At least I hope so!
It might have been pricey this time because the amount of hours spent in those scenarios is actually much higher than a standard 3 campaign DLC.
Im liking the content so far :)
Daut ❤
Yay twice a month!!
I want a hunger games tournament where say x number random players are picked to compete in random settings and random fixed/not fixed team/solo game combinations
Maaaaan, 4v4 is the best. My favourite type of game. I am missing big team tournaments
Daut is spot on.. Georgians is a buff....only exception is if you do not upgrade scout cavalry in castle or imp and dont do blood lines...then percentage doesnt add much and the old absolute hp change will be larger
All hail the LORD 🙌🏽
The Lord!!!
I wonder if it would be possible to have multiple people controlling the caster view but not from the same account. Like imagine 2-4 people doing so, looking at different things, and then from some control area the view or feed between them can be swapped. This way all, or most, of the areas of action can be viewed at all times and it can be quick swapped based on someone actively viewing all feeds. It could also allow for split screen type action so as to watch 2 pushes simultaneously. Could be exciting in a base trade type situation.
Totally possible. But having multiple observer and someone like a director on top exceeds most tournament production budgets id guess.
I agree that teamgames are just much more hard to follow. It always feels like I am missing out on half of it and don't really now the situation. In teamsgames I prefere 2vs2 because of that.
Multiple oberservers and maybe even splitscreen or screen in screen in some situation could help.
Yeah, I think it would be interesting if someone tried to do split screen and 2 cocasters basically watching two sides of 2v2 in a 4v4 game. Not sure how it would work, but seems interesting idea to try
You can't not click Like when it's the Lord!
If you're looking for video ideas I would watch a series where DauT creates a build order from scratch each game could be a slight tweak or suggestions from the comments until he gets a solid build order that he would actually use or he could compete against a top tier opponent and if he wins it gets the kings seal of approval
I genuinely love team tourneys like 4x more than regular tournaments
Now I need Overcooked stream with GL
A team tournament is massively overdue. Arguably it'd be more interesting (given your point of Hera dominating 1v1 for the last 12+ months) than 1v1.
Daut is correct about Georgians. Its a massive buff.
Always interesting to see what tiramis did to the screen in post 11
No Tiramis work this time!
I pre-ordered the new Scenarios as soon as they went on sale and haven't even been able to play them yet lol. But I will pretty much buy anything they put out so that hopefully Microsoft will keep supporting the game.
Regarding the V&V DLC, my brother and I have played like 5 different scenarios, but they were all so incredibly long and when you are in 4 ingame hours in (similar real time, because of restarts) and you still suffer the same limitations, unable to secure some base you can always retreat to, it becomes far less enjoying. I get that for one or two scenarios, but i donno if our picks were unlucky or if all of the scenarios are like that, we just come to play to rest with the game after a long day of working and it just does not give the joy it could to us...
14:00 is the guy crossing in the back this videos secret steam code? i finally won? 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 I just died lol
I would really love if they continued the COOP campaigns idea.... I play them with my brother and that's what I enjoy the most of the campaigns... they've made two packs of them and i have really hoped that they could include some COOP in this "campaign DLC", but sadly no...
amazing
1. Honestly, I don't see the point of "teams" if there are no team games. You don't have identity unless you play together.
2. To make team games viable, viewers should get a super resolution video streaming - where they can zoom in to any point. Another thing is we can have unique icons - like hero icons in Dota, for each player. Viper will always have a dedicated icon for example. The minimap, can use one per formation rather than one point per unit. And also only show millitary. So each formation gets an icon, all in same team have same color. So we can look at minimap and see where the army is moving, and where is engagement happening.
I think a big problem with the Civ overload is how the civs are layed out.
For example in Dota you can see the Heroes that fit certrain roles, in AoE2 the civs are just alphabetical. They need to lay the civs out better or let people create custom layouts. Split the Naval/Archer/Cav/Inf civs out make it easier to see the role that civ fits.
I asked Chris about the 1v1 tournaments and basically he said that he had his time there and is fine with that phase being over. So he's not investing time into the tournaments even if he enters.
🐐
This is new, idk daut have injury hand before
🤣🤣🤣 Daut's Yearly Review 52:18 - what not to say
So if we review Daut's stream times we can figure out his minimal steaming requirement ha
2v2 and 3v3 tournaments have the most value I think. GL would have to field multiple teams so it would split the talent, and it's not as chaotic and hard to watch as 4v4.
Also when can we bump up players in a map to like 16 or 32 on ludicris maps?? That would be sick to test out
