    Ben Simmons is probably the only player I can think of (off the top of my head) where his career decline has nothing to do with injuries, and everything to do with being mentally weak.
    Like usually when a player has this drastic of a decline in performance, it’s because of an injury that greatly impacted their play.
    But I’m Ben’s case, that’s just not what happened. I honestly can’t think of another star player where this happened.
    I can name star players who declined after injury, or even after another star player from the team was traded away, but not because he’s too mentally frail.

    That JJ Reddick interview told me he was done. Dude was delusional. Completely fine saying his defense and passing makes up for his weak ass J and that ppl need to pay attention to those numbers. Oblivious to the fact that his defense and passing were good, but hadn’t improved since he came into the league. His decline in offense actually made his passing less effective

    • @BD77-dg8bn
      @BD77-dg8bn Před 10 měsíci +1

      Agreed, I don't know how people looked at that interview and didn't come up with that same conclusion. Throughout the whole interview it seemed like he was not owning up to the problem. He was excusing his lack of shooting by mentioning the other parts of his game. He's an NBA player for christ sake and doesn't shoot 3s. In today's 3pt dominated era it is unheard of for a guard to literally not shoot. That's like a quaterback that doesn't throw passes instead just does handoffs. That's an integral part of his job that he refuses to do, and the fact that he wouldn't acknowledge how detrimental it is to his game/team, it told me everything I needed to know about his mindset.

    • @tjanderson5892
      @tjanderson5892 Před 10 měsíci

      @@BD77-dg8bn ya. Think most ppl just never saw the full interview. JJ didn’t help either, but he was admittedly in an awkward spot and was foolishly hopin Ben would critique himself.
      Being atrocious at 3s is actually not the huge problem Ben thinks it is. It’s is unwillingness to even attempt them that’s making him unplayable. Which goes along w/ his unwillingness to devote every possible minute he has to improving that part of his game to become at least manageable at it. His mentality is just, “ppl hate on my J, but they don’t see everything else in doing to impact the game.” And I don’t blame him completely either for that. He got a max deal and all-pro nom just by lacing his shoes up. Seems also when he was younger and always the best at everything, anytime he faced some adversity he picked his ball up and went home. He never had the drive to improve and never needed to. I hope he fixes his J, but looks like he’d need to fix him mindset first.
