Kapper must be so happy right now. He's been pushing this for years. Great move.
EDIT: Also, choppergirl has been pushing this idea for a long time and must be really thrilled to see somebody finally implement it.
hi bardwell
Joshuaaaa wasup
As much as I don't want to see our hobby watered down I must say this would have been really handy about 5 years ago when I first got into racing / freestyle. I spent the first 2 years building with a 20$ soldering iron from lowes and just didn't know any better. Now I feel like I'm a confident builder with a TS100 in my arsenal. I remember trying to fix my one quadcopter between heats when I crashed an feeling the time crunch trying to swap a arm / motor, with this system I could have swapped out a busted arm / motor in about 2 minutes tops. PS thanks for all your guidance over the years Bardwell, I wouldn't have made it without you.
Honestly they should just be direct soldering that plug onto the esc. Right angle low profile to sit inside reasonable standoffs.
:)
Quadcopters used to be plug and play ... everything was Pins and Plugs a few years ago ... That's when Everyone was interested in just looking around calmly flying ... Until the Drone Punks showed up and Promoted ... Speed , Dangerous Flying , Stupid Tricks , Racing and Crashing .. including in and around buildings and structures ! ... Now , It's Not Cool to use your drone to fly in a Responsible Way ... You have to Fly like a Maniac ! ... The Punks got the notice of the FAA ... Now the Hobby is Regulated !! ... Thanks a Lot ! .... Now you're back to Plug and Play ...... LOL ! ... Amazing ......
This is definitely going to help get new people in the hobby. I see so many frustrated comments from newbies that burn a ESC or FC while soldering.
I fried 2 esc and 1 fc and it costed like 60 dollars per stack i spend 700 dollar only for one drone
@@niksi_fpv2313 oh shit. Damn sorry
@@divingfalconfpv4602 Yup but i learned my lesson
@@niksi_fpv2313 live and learn. I just realized I rushed conformal coating for the snow and water while drones were together. Sticking brush in it. And I think I ruined all my drones baro. 4 drones.. 3 r long range drones so they need it.
@@divingfalconfpv4602 yeah i rushed and didn't pay attention while soldering thats why i fried few stacks
Can't wait for banggood to come out with a version for half the price. It's wild that our industry moves so slowly that something like this wasn't made available 4+ years ago. I guess props for finally pushing this.
TY DJI for commercializing the hobby XD
Actually my Emaax Tinyhawk has plug in motors. I bet there are others.

I actually LOVE soldering LOL
I feel like I'm living my childhood dream of building robots.
Every time I see Drew fly, I want to get up from my desk, go out and fly like him like my last rippage. Amazing easy build Drew!
Now we need this with “choose your reveiver” option. And an analog version too
there would be twice as much setup and double the soldering for the people assembling the kits, increasing the price significantly
Newcomers: This is a great video! If this is your first build, watch this video several times. Drew keeps the pace moving and he drops tips from years' of experience not only from working on quads but turning a wrench. AND PLEASE, adhere to Drew's suggestions on safety. Keep the props off until he says so and his tests are mint! Enjoy!
Newcomers: Learn how to do things the right way first, then move on to something like this.
This won't teach you anything about the hobby.
I personally think this is also for veterans that don't have lots of time and doesn't want 10 backup drones.
This video just made me cry. I'm currently building my first FPV drone and I've already destroyed two speedybee flight controllers with my utterly rubbish soldering. I'm not gonna give up. I've ordered a third and now I need to find somebody with good soldering skills. There's this guy in work I know :-)
I love how you guys have made a really simple solution to a big problem for lots of people. I think we will see a lot more people building drones, with less stress of messing up the wiring and more fun of getting flying faster. I can just say one thing though, I would highly appreciate it if you could make an analog version of this drone because the DJI digital system is a very big investment, so a lot of people would be able to spend less on goggles. Anyways, thanks for the awesome video and great idea!
@launchfpv yep thats so true bro when i first stsrtid i flew box goggles for a year before i got fatsharks then sharkbyte and now over to the darkside of dji lol
Why did I think of this?!?! So intuitive and just practical, good job guys! Ive been building for years now and I may build one of these just to see how the motor connectors perform. Awesome vid for newbies!
About Time!
Don't know why so many fpv guys are against this..
Its like they look down on you if you don't want to solder...This seems like a super obvious thing to do. Now we just need snap on motors ..
Woo, first time in my life I watched a video 3hrs after it was posted
This makes the whole fpv hobby more feasible for people like me who just got into the fpv world. Great work! I work in a robotic lab while having access to all the equipment and knowledge to build a drone, but I still decided to get a pre-built drone from rotor riot. The value of having the correct configuration is often disregarded, I am happy that I don't have to get my head around to guess what will work for me since they provided a good place to start with. As a newbie who only flew two pack of battery.. I wanna say that flying fpv is insanely fun.
Solder free builds? ABSOLUTELY GENIUS! I love it! I will be getting one. Great video drew. Thanks rotor riot!
Weeeeell only solder free if you're using the dji radio... besides that very convenient I must say!
"Soooo sweet"....in my Homer Simpson drooling voice 😁 this is really nice I was terrified when I got Into the hobby not so much with the soldering part but with all the flashing and updating the esc flight controllers ect ect but this will change the hobby for the better!!!! I can't believe someone had said fpv was dead !!!!! This is awesome you can never go wrong with plug and play anything!!!! It doesn't hurt to know how to solder though and do all the computer stuff lol then you can kick back and enjoy the hard work that the guys at rotor riot have done😁👍✌
I just ordered one of these. Looking forward to building it, and most of all, flying it.
Thanks for what you all do!
Soldering seems hard but if you buy the right equipment it's super easy
its not at all, its childs play. And every self builder or new commer can and should master this straight away.
But out in the field...imagine just plugging in a new motor. I kinda like it.
@@SilverFox80521 Im sure you can buy connectors, without any problem.
@@SilverFox80521 who brings extra motors to the field? I bring multiple quads, and batteries… but not motors..
If u crash hard enough to damage a motor.. ur gonna have other components compromised
@@robaxelsson530 motors cost $15 while an HD quad costs over $300. Maybe if I flew analog I would have spare quads. 🤷🏻♂️
Great job! Happy to see new and better ways to help people get involved in the FPV world. I'm excited every time Rotor Riot is mentioned. They're always doing something that goes viral! Thanks for continuing, to pushing past the limits
You just changed the game for new builders this is awesome!!!
Not really a builder at this point.
Just an assembler.
I love building the drone more. It's just so kool you get to choose what you want and put what you want inside the drone build. Especially if it's all premium electronics parts. Soldering is annoying but I love it it's satisfying. Feel like I Learn a new skill feels good.
that is just a clean build. I have more than 20 drones and this might be my first build. thanks rotor riot
Man, this would have been awesome 2 years ago when I first started. My very first fpv build was a CL1, watching Drib's tutorial video on assembly. My soldering sucked and it was very intimidating but I got it done. This is great for beginners in the hobby.
I think this is a poor way for beginners to learn about the hobby.
Like giving someone an electric guitar right away instead of having them learn on an acoustic.
I'm not a beginner and I like it just because it's fast and modular and I don't need 10 drones, I can have one drone. And time is valuable so I can fly harder and not worry that my day will be over as soon as something broke.
I would've loved this when I started fpv but honestly now I really enjoy soldering. This will be a hit
Complete opposite philosophy as you.
As I get older I'm getting busier. Not having to solder saves me time I can spend doing other hobbies/things. In the field this is great to have.
Having a quick modular quad also means I don't need multiple backup quads.
This is a cool idea and people can still fix their own stuff when they crash . Good way to expand the hobby .
Daaang. Getting one. Mind blown. So simple. 🤯
Nice! I hope this blows up guys! Can't wait to see the kit and parts at best buy! Lol
Wow! Wish I had it this easy when I first started flying back in 2016! Nice build!👌🏽
Excellent !!! thanks for the newbies in FPV assembly and set up. Very well presented and explained- Thanks
This is great! Ease in building was really in demand! Good stuff!
I swear I caught LeDrib putting 2 different size spacers between the esc and fc. @9:44 in the video you can see it! I'm sure it was corrected but I caught ya! Lol Pretty awesome build and set up. 😎
I’m about to order this kit I can’t wait 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Cool stuff.
DJI really missed the mark mark with their FPV. It should have been easily modular instead proprietary illogical engineering.
DJI purposely wants it proprietary stuff so you have to keep buying their stuff. Like the Apple ecosystem.
Where they completely missed the mark is making the frame out of plastic & the entire drone being so fragile that people pretty much can't take the risk of flying it like a real FPV drone at all.
@@Vousie lol true. But also the OP is right.
Very cool! Congratz on getting it done RotorRiot!
Love this. Long overdue. My next quad will use this setup. (I wish the 3 pole XT connectors were more common)
The MR30 connectors are great. I also like the LEDs that can be built into them. The LEDs make the connector a race wire, but hardly anyone carries them...
Thks to your video and great idea I just ordered one from you guys👍👍 long live Roto riot guys
Excellent concept and super duper video. Thanks ☺️. You Rock 🤘
Genius! Made my day .. I'm hopeless at soldering. I'll order now!
I love this... keep it simple, very nice love it!!!
Every company is going to come out with there versions after this video game changer awesome!!!
I think a solderless design should be standard now, just simple plug and play, modular approach on components and how they connect together.
Not everyone is comfortable with soldering etc
What kind of hobby is that then? Open your wallet and show your visa card till the next crash?
@@guardianobserver6593 It's just a natural progression of how building electronic devices usually developes.
I remember a time computers came as kits you had to assemble and solder some components and wiring together etc
Now everything is simple and easy plug and play!
No reason FPV can't go the same route and still be a 'hobby'.
@@pdtech4524 The difference is people don't take their computers out, clogging the parks, cramming into smaller and smaller areas we have to fly.
Computers don't cause new laws to be made because irresponsible lazy people that didn't have the time to learn soldering also don't know how to learn rules.
Fpv is the last hobby I want the masses of simpletons to get involved in.
I'm with Guardian on this.
@@dangerous8333 Drones are a niche thing and always will be, the 'masses of simpletons', you mention have no interest in them whatsoever.
great video! never seen anything like before thats something neww now ! nice!
As easy as it gets! Nice one! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What an amazing build, i love the motor connectors and actually did this myself when i was building a bunch of test motors(3D printed). It is such a nice little connector and will take all the amps it needs for the motors. But most of all, your prepping of the FC was brilliant, what a service to newcomers to have the PIDs tuned to match the build, i LOVE it ! Well, Well, WELL done !!!
Omg you are genius, thanks for making fpv so simple do everyone can build a drone 😊
I don'k know how DJI works but, for first time pilots, checking that the failsafe is working properly is another tip to share together with the other good ones in this video.
Was hoping I'd see this in the comments.
Yeah, this is really going to help push the hobby forward for people like me that just don't have the time to build from scratch, yet still want to get our feet wet with the satisfaction of putting things together. Nice job !
This is really a great idea.
Great idea, great video. Just a small suggestion to add for people just getting into the hobby. It's a good practice to twist all wires between the ESC and Flight Controller. Also do the same with the Air Unit to the Flight Controller. This will help reduce Electromagnetic interference and Radio Frequency Interference getting into the key components. With less noise getting into the Flight Controller it will be easier to tune.
I know everyone is looking at this from an ease of entry perspective. As someone who’s already deep in the hobby I see a huge maintenance advantage to this as well if this trend continues
I agree. That's the only thing I'm thinking about. I couldn't care less if more people get in this hobby, clogging up the parks and the airspace.
Just because I know how to solder doesn't mean I want to. I'm a busy person.
Very good,..thank for sharing👍👍🙏
Soldering is my nemesis, this is great
Just got mine today, got it done so far but unfortunately My kit didn’t bring the spacers and the most importantly bolt nuts to hold the components, another trip to get those important items. Regardless amazing kit and easy to build!
This is great to get more people flying!
This is the exact thing i need its so easy and i like the feeling of do it yourself
Great idea. My only comment is that I wish you guys had put an ExpressLRS receiver instead (with JST connectors or something). The DJI controllers are a bit expensive and the range isn't as good as ELRS.
Awesome build! Great video!👍👍
Very good value proposition, congrats :)
Damn Imma consider in the future 👌🏼👌🏼
This is awesome. It's the Kiwico of drones :D
The first no-solder drone I would actually buy. Still, at some point a bent prop will cut a motor wire and users should know what to do then. Of course, pilots who aren't that crazy about using the DJI controller will have to solder a receiver before taking this to her maiden flight.
Swap wire.
@@MindRiderFPV Right, but what if it's a wire that's soldered to the board?
Ah, you weren't thinking about that were you.
Hence why it's important to still learn how to repair these things the old-fashioned way. In fact, I don't even see this as something for noobs. I see this as something for someone that is busy or just doesn't like soldering. Just because I can solder doesn't mean I want to.
Most impressive, it's no mean feat to make such a simple kit that is also repairable for a beginner.
If I can save up the cash I would buy the full lot, goggles etc. Awesome 👍
Very good idea, wish this would have been common when I started in 2016. I had as a 1st quad, a Zmr250
And the best is if you break a motor, it’s so simple to replace !!!
Yeah you just buy a new motor, and send it somewhere to have someone else solder a connector on it for you, pay for that service, wait for it to be sent back, then install it.
Sounds easy to me, efficient and affordable too.
Huuu la revolución 🤩Drone 🤩👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🚀🚁
Thats a sick kit! Where was it 5yrs ago when i started 🤣
Hilarious how the DJI BS became the most complicate step of the build 😂
I'm so bummed you're literally the ONLY ones in the world who sell such smolder free kits since you don't ship to my country. I really want to build my own quad but I have 0 knowledge in the field and wouldn't dare messing with smoldering or whatever programming/tuning is needed for the other diy kits. This is just a perfect bundle to both know your drone and fix it if it's broken without all the unnecessary complicated parts involved. I WISH I could get my hands on it in order to fully get into FPV. For now I'm gonna stay stuck with DJI FPV and forever fly cautiously cause the thing is fragile as hell. :/
makes total sense.
This is clean
THIS IS THE BEST INVENTION SINCE WOMEN.!!! THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED WHEN I FIRST STARTED BUILDING DRONES SO I DIDN'T SCREW UP ALL MY FLIGHT CONTROLLERS I STILL HAVE. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BUYING ONE OF THESE KITS BECAUSE I CAN SPEAK FOR EVERYONE THAT'S A BEGINNER SOLDERING SUCKS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU SHAKE ALL THE TIME FROM NERVOUSNESS THEN YOUR OCD KICKS IN AND SOLDER BUBBLES DON'T LOOK LIKE SOLDER BUBBLES LOOK LIKE DEFLATED BALLOONS CAN YOU END UP TRYING TO MAKE THIS LITTLE BUBBLES LOOK LIKE BUBBLES END UP SCREW IN YOUR FLIGHT CONTROLLER UP. KEEP THESE KIDS COMING UP BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO GO HOT
This is cool
Very cool
와.. 어떻게 뒤로 옆으로 날 수가 있는지 ... so amazing flight
Nice video!
although this will make the purists scream, I think it is an excellent initiative! great idea 💡
I remember buying my first FPV drone used from a person who tried to enter FPV but was expecting DJI stability (he was a cinematographer working on indie films). His build was mostly wired with connectors. I also remember crashing ever so often in my first flights due to connectors popping out. After my 2nd day flying, I removed most of the connectors and soldered the wires directly. But to be fair with RR's solderless build, the connectors used are much better than the connectors that was used on the used FPV quad that I bought a couple of years ago so plugs disconnecting mid-flight will likely be much less than what I experienced. I guess the guy I bought it from was planning for a more docile quad so using servo connectors and cheap power plugs was not an issue for him.
So, just so I got it... Props off when first arming!
Nicely done!! But I love soldering 😁 And I love the smell of it. I know is not healthy.
Nice vid Drib! I bought the HD1 and the old CL1 almost 2 years ago, since then, I have only replaced one arm on each and one top plate on the HD1 (no serious breakage one top screw rip through the carbon but still flyable). Dam good if you ask me... Rotor Riot sells very good quad frames. ... PS Please bring back the old CL1.
Very Good
Sheer genius!
Excellent design and concept.. where was this 5 yrs ago lol? Would have saved me a lot of money when I was learning how to solder.. killed so many FCs in the beginning 🤣😂.
Yup, most of us had that same experience. We’re proud that we are finally offering this now. And hopefully we can save future generations of FPV pilots the headaches and stress that you and I had to go through haha
- Drew
I'll admit to having smoked at least 3-4 flight controllers in my day because I just didn't know any better at the time. I don't think there's anything more demoralizing than seeing the magic blue smoke exit your flight controller after working on it for 12 hours straight an being soo hyped about being able to afford to fly, then all your hopes an dreams dashed in a shower of sparks an smoke.
great video. already know how to build but I think simplicity is one thing the fpv market needs a lot of work on. Building down to software.
hope you keep innovating this idea, with lighter and better connectors etc
Awesome
I love the MR30 connectors that make the plug-in connection possible between the ESC and motors. I prefer to only tape down the arm side of the MR30 connectors, so if I break an arm, then swapping motors and arms is easier.
I was thinking this!!
its just a piece of tape LOL
@@ziggyzbeak A strategically placed piece of tape 😉
Genius especially on smaller quads. Other companies will follow Im sure.
THIS IS THE FUTURE!!!!! THANK YOU I HATE SOLDERING,...
Sounds promising. I guess that the next logical step is to create a domino style universal connector for the motor wires. Each wire would be secured by a small screw and it could allow to choose whatever motor.
Or a spring/caged ferrule
Good job onboarding the new pilots! Our hobby relies on them.
Learn to solder and love it when you do a quality job. In no time at all you can easily be good enough at soldering. My neighbour taught me to solder when I was a kid and it's one of the best skills I have. If only I could fly as good as I can solder. Great video, keep it up!
But imagine you drove a ways to a cool spot. You don’t have all day. You crash on the first battery and bend a motor shaft. Would you rather solder a new one on right there or plug a new one in. It’s not just for people who can’t solder. It’s very convenient.
I was just thinking about something like this the other day
Soldering is half the fun. But I would of done this in the beginning for sure
This is me, still watching video even after buying soldering iron just few days ago.
No soldering iron, I can't be arsed. Thank you.
This is a really cool idea but maybe a analog build might be better for getting people into it. Is there a plan for a analog version in the future?
First off love your videos I’ve learned a ton. I’m now learning that I need a better drone for freestyle. I like the no soldering idea but the link didn’t work. Also can I connect this to my DJI FPV radio like the one your girlfriend has not the black one you used in this video
