“Shocking…” US Condemns IDF’s “Human Shield” Act In West Bank, Asks Israel To “Deal” With Culprit

- The US State Department on June 24 described a video of a wounded Palestinian man strapped to a military jeep by Israeli forces as "shocking" and called for a swift investigation to hold those responsible accountable. During a State Department news briefing, when asked if this incident amounted to the army using Palestinians as human shields, spokesperson Matthew Miller affirmed the video was "shocking" and the practice "absolutely unacceptable," emphasizing that humans should never be used as human shields. He urged the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to investigate the incident swiftly and ensure accountability.
The incident occurred on June 22 during an Israeli army arrest raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, where forces tied a wounded Palestinian man to the hood of a military jeep. Violence in the West Bank has escalated since before the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza began in October, with frequent army raids on militant groups, attacks by Jewish settlers in Palestinian villages, and deadly Palestinian street attacks.
