I do like that now that we aren't in a position of power like we were in Ruina we truly see why Roland was so adamant about the dangers of the City in terms of Syndicates and Corps. They truly are absolute monsters when you're just another nobody in the totem pole.

Ah, Ricardo. One of the very few fights I actually had to try more than once because of one tiny detail catching me off-guard, lol.
One neat touch I like about Ricardo is that there's no delay between clashes like with every other enemy encountered thus far. Win or lose, he's already onto the next attack.

I found it kinda funny that your first thought of what the middle's theme was is religion of all things. Although to be fair, they do follow their rules religiously indeed.

Since you mentioned that leveling up would only increase health and damage, I have one thing to note: Offense level does actually affect clash power, meaning leveling up will also slightly improve your rolls in a clash. It's plus one clash power per 3 offense level. This isn't really explained in game I believe. Also, I remember PM experimenting with leveling and offense level mechanics in the earlier days, I think it may have used to not affect clashing at some point in the past. Or at least to a lesser extent.
They did however explain the new offense level mechanics in those update notes ages ago.
A couple of tips for fighting enemies like Ricardo:
-If you find yourself struggling against skills that would otherwise have a low max roll and they do not have any coin boosts / buffs (i.e “Kicking”), that is because they have higher offensive levels (every 3pts of difference gives +1 clash power) and or mechanics giving them clash power. In which case, try using defense skills instead to handle them. Evades can ignore that clash power.
-Remember to have the unit use it on the fastest attack targeting them, or the leftmost attack targeting them if there are multiple attacks on the same part.
-If you find your whole team struggling to clash in a turn, DO NOT attempt to clash. Instead, try doing unopposed attacks to burst down a dangerous part before it attacks or having units redirect attacks they can handle with defensive skills or resistances to prevent your team from exploding that turn.
-If you don’t want to deal with an enemy’s defense skill in a focused encounter, you can have one of your units with enough speed redirect said skill with their own defense skill to render it useless. This will not work on counters, however.
-Abuse story mechanics if applicable. Ishmael is immortal in this fight, as long as everyone else isn’t dead.
No, Heathcliff wasn't part of the Middle, but he speaks about a Sindicate on the Hellschicken chapter.
yeah, I looked it up on stream and he just mentioned *a* syndicate, not which one. Although, considering the choices...it's really hard to think he was part of any of them, really
Fun fact, from what I've heard Ricardo is level 60 and has like 3.6k hp. Having negative drip really makes you op in the City I guess given we already had Sieg and now Ricardo confirms it.

Ricado by far was the best part of the Canto, to think Roland killed so many of the Middle while on a mindless rampage tells you alot of his power level. Also while everybody says the Middle looks japanese I feel its wrong: they look and act more like the El Salvador Mara Salvatrucha with tattoos, family style of ranks, overly gruesome payback on any slight wrong done against them and the spanish name of Ricardo for a top guy.
I don't know much about south american gangs, so I won't argue...it's just that the "brother"/"big brother" thing immediately reminded me of the popular "aniki". Also, aren't most (prolific) yakuza tatoo'd aswell? welll that might be a criminal thing in general, I guess.

I like how sinners are very suspicious about Rim, but were completely fine with giving money to a random pirate “promising” to release the captives. What is this Scooby-doo logic

31:21 outside of Tanya we never met Middle also this our 3rd encounter where sinners fight something that is way beyond their abilities considering how we handled finger members in ruina yeah this would be a chump in ruina not this monster Middle are brotherhood and family focused with Vengence
37:14 yep and ricardo wasnt taking us seriously i believe he is lv 60 aleph enemy with 3000 hp and bit above we are going to need alot of powercreep to deal with finger enemies that we fought in ruina to not get manhandled i mostly used Reindeer ish and few tremor units to stagger him

LP was my introduction to (nu)metal when I was 9 or something. I still remember it fondly, although I didn't like anything released after their jay-z collab
48:00 well, you get attack/def on leveling too, so it can get to +1 in clashes (5 levels is usually 3-4 attack and defense, and difference in 5 between atk and defence adds +1 to clash, or was it changed to every 3?).
58:00 if all hopeless, you can just stack all attacks into one slot. It is usually the way to defeat the Bull in old Mirror dungeon, when it got a lot of buffs on low HP, you just all hit into fastest slot and hope it dies before its turn. And better to clash with your tank (good ones for such clashes are tank ID's of Yi Sang, Mersault, Ishmael and somewhat Gregor if can heal with his EGO later). And then your more attacking ones would just go into that slot and stagger or kill.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I beat him yesterday
it also helped that I used the pirate heathcliff identity and actually read his passives (gain offense level whenever someone takes dmg) - that pretty much decimated him

(Seriously, I've had people watching me playtest my mods get brainworms from clashing cards and not just focus one-siding the fucks)
This fight... to me it feel just as painful as the Dongbaek fight back in canto 4 or even worse. Though one bright side to this one is that despite Ishmael starting with a disadvantage for the whole canto, in this fight, she will not die until all other allies are dead so feel free to use that info however you want. Also sucks that this one was so rough for you on the enjoyment side since this one my favorite canto yet
I remember I played it the day it was released as I did for all of the fights in Canto 5. Took 2 hours of pure strategy with no guides and just not choosing to grind sin resources. ended up fighting for 2 hours until I beat it. Still, I might be one of those people who liked this fight since I needed to think like Library of ruina fights and plan out how to take advantage of Test of the Big Brother. Also, this fight contextualizing how weak limbus company is, is cool.
considering I stumbled my way into the dongbaek fight and didn't even break a sweat this is very weird.

it took me about 5-6 tries to actually beat him now, which is not *that* much, but I also uptied everyone to 4 and leveled them up to 40. whether that did the most or the fact that I finally thought about what I was doing in this fight instead of just winrating...I can't tell
I would like to know how much changed in this fight/what got patched or nerfed. If only there was proper documentation of this stuff...
@@LambdadeltaYT From what I remember, the dungeon bosses was the one that got nerfed to have less hp and clashing power/damage overall because the enemy used to roll quite high. I'm not super sure if Ricardo fight was nerfed or not since I spend hours on release to beat him

this fight had is a f*king slap to reality, had me repeating it thinking for first time with the pasives of off combat identities
The best you can do is fight this map with your 2-3 best blunt resistant but blunt focused identities
yeah I also went and changed some of the bench-sinners around to get better passives. I don't know if it actually changed something in the end, but this is exactly what we need more of in this game, imo
any ishmael identity and nclair absolutely destroy 5-30
I got bored of combat long time ago so i don't read anything unless you're dead because of some mechanic. And that's what happened in this fight with me too. And solution is simple - full unga (win against his evasion with something like big number Ishmael's fire ego). As a vn fan i still wish that we could see how good Ryoshu really is because we only hear about it. And we don't really see local Blue Reverb gang (new league of nine i guess) and mark people are neutral. Yet still appear and talk with our cast, Demian finished Kromer situation and they just wait for something to happen. Somehow when conditions are met (and most importantly you have the mark) you can become one of them.

it took me about 5 or 6, so I'm hopeful for the dungeon. but we all know the usual lambda-routine... o_o
My way to beat Ricardo was the old PM strat, bruteforcing and ignoring the mechanics, full blunt resistant team, one sided unga bunga and praying for the best.
