idk how ppl can pay 7 grand for braces to just never wear a retainer after. i have a 7 thousand dollar smile and iâm keeping it like that
I didn't ask for braces. My teeth aren't that bad and retainers are annoying every night. All that combined will eventually mean you wear it less and less.

Honestly, having to wear a retainer for the rest of my life just makes me want to keep my open bite.
Same
Same if it weren't for the fact that i have jaw pain (and very painful headaches) from time to time that makes me want to take my jaw off. I can't afford braces anyway, so I would just have to wait until I have a job and save enough money.
Retrain your tongue. It might help. The lips and tongue put a LOT of force on the teeth. You don't need much force to move teeth, but a tongue thrust will put 500g of force on your front teeth. Look up 'myo spots' and Orofacial myology. Even if you get braces, your tongue will likely move your teeth back to an open position even with a retainer. Orthodontists hate open bites.
I'm using brackets because of a jaw problem and not because a teeth problem so I either have to use a retainer for the rest of my life or have one o a few surgeries once in my life and I really don't know what I prefer

I worn mine almost 8 years after treatment. I got new ones ever year or 2 because I couldnt sleep without them. When you wear them every night, it will become a habit. It's not annoying. Brush your teeth before bed and pop them on. Wake up, pop them out and brush your teeth. Its not hard. Plus paying $6,000.00 out of my own pocket was definitely a great motivation.
The problem here is most of kids here didn't pay for anything their parents did, hence they don't appreciate the value of these bracelets like the adults who got brought this procedure with their own money.

Question: Is it okay to wear a retainer every other night instead of every night?
No
Your teeth take time to fully settle and for the bone to solidify, so I wouldnât try that until at least a year after you got your braces off.
If your teeth start to hurt or shift then go back to wearing it every night
Not if you havenât worn it in a while. Youâre meant to wear it every night
If youâve had a retainer for many years already it should be fine
ONLY as long as you've been wearing it for about a year!!! Your teeth WILL SHIFT VERY QUICKLY until it's tight to put the retainer in. They won't go back to they used to obviously but one tooth can mess it all up
I always thought as a kid, you get braces, wear the retainer for like 1-2 years then never wear anything. Then I got done with all my stuff and my orthodontist said âokay just wear the retainer every night and youâll be good to goâ and I said âfor how longâ and she said âforeverâ and I was like nah, and now I have my gap back đ

I'm just curious how a retainer will help keep my underbite out of the way, I understand a retainer keeps your teeth straight, but how does it keep your jaw straight?
@@Ehstuped Exactly.
Your under bite should be fully corrected by another procedure that can be concurrent with your braces. My overbite was corrected using these corkscrew and triangle like fixtures on my back teeth when my braces were put in. After the first 6 months these fixtures were removed and my overbite was fully corrected despite my teeth still being very crooked (wore braces for an additional 2.5 years)
My retainer had nothing with jaw correction attached.
Idk if it's the same for under bite but unless there is an underlying condition perpetually causing the under bite (if one exists) then it should be a one time fix and doesn't need constant correction.
Only wore my retainer for 6 months 24/7 except when eating/brushing teeth and never wore it since and it's been at least 7 years and my jaw is fine
Most of the time people with bite problems have to have a separate device called expanders to fix the problem. I had an expander for 2 years and braces for 6.

People dont seem to realise that most of the time, if your teeth are not all over the place, braces and retainers are purely for cosmetic purpose. They allways act like it would be the end of the world if you dont wear your retainers. If you are fine with your teeth: You dont need Braces
This is so true. In general if your teeth donât bother you then just donât get braces in general. Itâs a lot of money and you have to wear retainers afterwards. Getting braces then not wearing your retainer afterwards so your teeth go back to how they were is a complete waste of money. If your teeth donât really bother much you shouldnât get braces unless you want them to look nice because braces are a lot of work. However, you should check if you donât need braces because I had âperfectly good teethâ only to find out that if I hadnât gotten braces down the road my teeth would slowly get worse. So always check with your dentist or orthodontist to see if you need them!
That's not always the case for most people. I had to get braces because when I become an adult my teeth would have caused me severe pain and would need to be removed. That's the case with almost all people who get braces. It's not all jsut about looks
Nah braces are worth it. It boosted my confidence.
@@Skyrem-dm7hj You're so right! I had really crooked teeth but I was used to having them like that, what made me decide to use braces was that it was so hard to clean them right so they accumulated so much plaque so fast, my gums were always swollen and my teeth hurt almost every day, so my decision was for health not for the looks. đ
like skyrem said, its definitely not just about looks. im coming up on my last month or so of braces but about halfway through the process i ended up needing a surgery of sorts bc there was an adult canine that hadnt replaced the baby tooth bc it couldn't break through the tissue since the tissue was really dense. if nothing was done about it the tooth wouldve went sideways in the tissue in my face and other crowding issues i had wouldve led to severe issues down the road. crowding isnt uncommon and neither is adult teeth not being able to break through, and those situations can be really severe if left untreated so braces are definitely something to look into. do not listen to OP's advice bc it could hurt you later on if you ignore potential problems. braces arent extremely fun to have but its definitely worth it

I haven't worn my retainer in 15 years. My teeth haven't moved đ€·đŒââïž they still look exactly the same.
My teeth were in constant pain wearing my retainers at night, so I stopped. I can eat normally and close my mouth all the way without my jaw being crooked again, and all it cost were some slightly crooked teeth. Had 1 of my canines (baby tooth) knocked out and pushed another tooth almost a whole 1.5cm to the left in an accident. The only thing braces did was slow down how fast my tooth came in, give me weeks of constant pain, and make it near impossible to eat comfortably. Never getting braces or a retainer again. The tooth that got moved over now sits in the same spot it did before my accident.
Well duh. Because youâre not wearing your retainer like youâre supposed to. How ignorant this is tbh. Thank you all for explaining! It was very hopeful!
I'm pretty sure retainers are to make sure the teeth dont shift
Overbites can cause many problems: jaw stuff which can give you migraines and headaches, teeth grinding etc
Well iâm not the braces guy but i can tell you from my education in biology its from natural selection and simple facial aesthetics. As humans we prefer more âattractive facesâ. Generically this means features one posses that signifies good health and fitness. Its a way of biologically picking a good candidate for procreation.
Eg: Clear skin, _clean/straight teeth_ , thicker hair and healthy body size are all signs that youâre less likely to be sick and also less likely to _catch_ illness and disease, as these features signify a stronger immune system.
Less wrinkles/ ageing signify that youâre most likely fertile and fit for pregnancy and taking care of the baby afterwards. Also, since immune health rises then decreased as we age, being younger is also a sign of possible better health and capability.
Of course, as humans we are very versatile and complex in what we do and donât find attractive. This is seen in a lot of us who may prefer traits such as _crooked teeth!_ The point I am trying to make is that its subconsciously based in what we think will benefit us personally and as a result, benefit our potential children thus enabling good health, longevity and quality of life.
*Just to clarify I donât have the intent of offending anyone, Iâm simply stating the science behind why we do care about stuff as such xx*
I hope that helped with widening your insight! xxx
straight teeth leads to overall good oral health, easier to clean your teeth and your gums preventing gum disease and cavities/tooth decay. improves your whole face structure, which can also provide many many benefits like inhibiting apnea, speech impediments/disorders, problems with swallowing and breathing
If you are fine with your teeth and it doesnât interfere with your daily life then you should be fine! But ask with your dentist if you are still wondering! I got braces 2 1/2 ish years ago and itâs really helped with how I talk!
