The Misfits created something entirely new when they started mixing horror movies with punk music. This is the story of how they did it. #misfits #danzig #punk #musichistory
It turns out the creator of the intro music I used for this (and several other videos) wanted all of the revenue for those videos, so I had to mute it. Sorry that the intro is pretty awkward now
Just found your channel from the Minor Threat history. Fantastic videos man keep up the good work! I personally love the Graves era of Misfits as well as the Danzig era but to each their own. Would love to see the history of Cerebral Ballzy (NYC punk started in ‘09 I think)
Cough/Cool is one of my very favorites. I found out that it is best received in a state of witching hour terror walking alone by the frozen graveyard and hearing and seeing coyotes for the first time. In that state it became a religious experience
@@jekylwhispy4181it is if you're referring to the (I think) Celtic pagan holiday. But when referring to the band, Glenn always, & still does, pronounce it "Sam Hain." & He knew of the proper pronunciation at the time, since he was into the occult. I'm not sure why he chose to pronounce it that way, but that's what it is.
I really enjoyed this. I believe the biggest reason for Misfits being discovered by the masses after their breakup was Metallica. Pre-Black album Metallica covered their songs, Cliff Burton had a Crimson Ghost tattoo, and they wore their t-shirts. A lot of people knew of the name and logo because of that.
James is wearing a Misfits tshirt on the Master of puppets album. They, along with Megadeth, wore Misfits and later Samhain T-shirts. Having two multi plantnim bands give you free promotion certainly helped. Metallica also covered some songs on the Garage Days EP
My first name is Jerry and my middle name is Doyle. Doyle is my mothers maiden name and is what everyone called me when I was in high school. Was funny hearing “Jerry-Doyle”. I have always liked the misfits but never knew a lot of their history or bios.
Good video. Not sure I’d say their key board / no guitar early sound sounded like heavy metal. Not sure what to compare it to, it’s like Lo-if alternative lounge music ha.
47 seems kinda old but the enjoyment the misfits bring me is the same as when i was thirteen, listening to a dub copy of a really badly recorded vinyl record through some gold circle brand knock off walkman. I liked static age, walk among us era misfits. Looking back the calcification of the boys is really quite evident and I truly wish the English debacle had turned out better. Perhaps the influences potentially gained by way of the two other most influential scenes could've been dragged back to Jersey and by proxy new york fully digested by locals and like sputum flung across the scene hungry masses causing a super flu like event. But alas, twasnt meant to be, my understanding is that Jerry was about as unlikable as the clap during this era so who could blame anyone for not wanting to impart any amount of valuable knowledge upon them...let alone that knowledge that is gifted through punk. It always seems such a slow process, the distillation and assimilation, that is. Yet in the end it does seem vitally brilliant and violently stark.
Glen signed my die die my darling ep in Fresno in probably 1988 earth ad was out but walk among us was the best Someone in the comments asker about regan youth and that would be cool but I’d really like to see a background on adolescence they were a favorite also liked fear quiet a bit I could run through a big ok list like Rkl Cromags Subhumans Celtic frost Venom Anyhow I’ll keep watching your content is good
Jerry was “friends” with Sid’s mom because he happened to be at the party for Sid when he got out on bail. The very same party that ended up killing him when Sid’s mom gave him a hot shot on purpose. Apparently Jerry was a comfort to her after the fact and helped her with things. Some of that is documented on the documentary The last 24 hours Sid Vicious.
I like the band seems like nothing but people I don't know crap about punk wear those shirts the other I went to Walmart they sell misfits shirts so wack I'm good off that ......😢
My only critique is to look up how to pronounce certain words. It’s load eye, not Lodi. I’ve noticed this in a few videos you don’t pronounce things right.
I appreciate you doing history on bands from back in the day... I really don't want to come off like an A**hole because that's not my intention at all!! I've watched a few of your mini documentaries and you tend to get things wrong and leave things out.... I am a musician and have played in bands since 1993 and I guess I take music a little serious especially when someone is telling the history about very important and influential bands especially Misfits and Danzig!! First thing what is up with your pronunciation of SAMHAIN!?!? SERIOUSLY 😂 OMG DUDE.. It's pronounced as it's spelled?? Sss-AaM~hhAyN. Sam-hey-nN. Lol. As far as Misfits with Michael Graves of course the first few months and shows he had to prove himself but he totally won over the crowd/fans! Michael Graves himself said when he started that he was a huge fan, and Misfits fans looked at him as one of us up there honoring Glenn and the original band! Not to mention he was hot as f*ck and he sounded amazing live and on the albums! His presence on stage was awesome and he had so much energy and he was great to the fans!!! No pretentiousness and was just so nice to anyone who would approach him. Actually they did really good as far as ticket sales and the Michael Graves Misfits is when the band started selling more merchandise (t-shirts) than ever before! Ever since then their merchandise sales are insane! They have sold millions and millions of shirts! Then when you talked about Glenn and SAMHAIN and Glenn doing SAMHAIN for a minute then Danzig, I don't understand that was all you said about Danzig? Danzig has sold way more albums than Misfits and Danzig has a huge following and in 1993 Danzig made a video for a live version of Mother that was a hit for them a decade earlier, and the live version of Mother video on MTV was a huge hit ! Their live album went platinum be aise of the success of Mother 93 live! Not mention many other singles they put out over the years did really well especially in the 90s and 90s like " she rides" ( one of my favs) "twist of cane" "dirty black summer" just to name a few.. Danzig merchandise sales were huge in the 90s you would see a Danzig shirt everywhere you went..at school, grocery store, the mall, library, gas station..... In the Minor threat video you did you talked more about Henry Rollins than Glenn Danzig and Henry wasn't even in Minor Threat .. Again I'm not trying to be an a**hole at all! I just wish you would either do more research or make a lo ger more in depth documentary or say that you are going to do a Danzig video like you said in the Minor threat video about Bad Brains and Henry Rollins/ Rollins Band/ Black Flag. That's 3 different min docs right there or an in depth long documentary! We ride hard for our bands! Some of these bands played huge roles in our lives and were where we turned to during the best and worst times in our lives!! So it's important to get it right.. that's all I'm saying! I totally love your vibe and personality and how you edit and you are a fantastic story teller so do please don't let what I've said get you down okay❤ I just want people to really research and know their sh*t... oh bands that people would love to see and would get you the most views more than anything you've done so far would be... FaithNoMore, Mr. Bungle, Mike Patton, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone age, Acid Bath, Clutch, killing joke, Snot, Sepultura, radiohead, Helmut, FanG, the Cramps. OKAY I could go on forever lol. One more the Cure, Ministry... OK I'm stopping❤❤ Thank you you rule!
It turns out the creator of the intro music I used for this (and several other videos) wanted all of the revenue for those videos, so I had to mute it. Sorry that the intro is pretty awkward now
What kind of music you looking for? I am a musician. I could maybe make you something.
45 Grave and Rudimentary Peni would be cool to hear about in this series
I’d love to see you do the history of black flag, minor threat and the band called death
Definitely on the list - thanks!
The meteors please almost nobody talks about these dudes and they are so good
i'M GOING TO SEE THEM WITH MY DAD IN AUSTIN, TEXAS DUDE SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, AGNOSTIC FRONT, REVERAND HORTON HEAT WTF
I'd love to see something on Reagan Youth.
Me too
Good idea

Thanks! I appreciate you checking out more than one video. I'll add em to the list
Would love a video on Talking Heads
Cough/Cool is one of my very favorites. I found out that it is best received in a state of witching hour terror walking alone by the frozen graveyard and hearing and seeing coyotes for the first time. In that state it became a religious experience
Lodi is pronounced Lod-eye , not Lod-ee
Also Samhain is pronounced -hain like -pain.
I was told it's pronounced like sah-WAYNE

On a similar note to your SY video, the story of Pavement would be really interesting to me
That would be interesting! Added to the list
Yeah mon, really good channel bro😊 very concise and good voice.
Thank you so much 👍

Ha that’s awesome. I have the same middle and last name of one of the most famous authors of all time, so I get it
Good video. Not sure I’d say their key board / no guitar early sound sounded like heavy metal. Not sure what to compare it to, it’s like Lo-if alternative lounge music ha.
Killer shirt. Sid
How about a vid on the cramps?
Agnostic Front would be cool.

It was called "cough cool"
Good video. But I wished you were weaving in what songs they were writing and performing during this timeline.
james chance and the contrortions.
I think I'm the only person who prefers the graves area over Danzig.
Do spoon.
Som Hein? Come on bro.😂
Glen signed my die die my darling ep in Fresno in probably 1988 earth ad was out but walk among us was the best
Someone in the comments asker about regan youth and that would be cool but I’d really like to see a background on adolescence they were a favorite also liked fear quiet a bit I could run through a big ok list like
Rkl
Cromags
Subhumans
Celtic frost
Venom
Anyhow I’ll keep watching your content is good

I thought skinheads didn't like the jam because they looked like mods.
Lode EYE NJ.
Can you do a history on the band, Turdburglar?
My man Lodi is pronounced low-dye
They formed in 1977 not 76
Lowdie
I like the band seems like nothing but people I don't know crap about punk wear those shirts the other I went to Walmart they sell misfits shirts so wack I'm good off that
......😢
Public image L limited !!!
It's always cringe watching a video about the Misfits and hearing how they butcher the pronunciation of Lodi.
So true
Yeah I literally kicked the wall just now, and ran to the comments.
What about Samhain? Lol.
Standar heavy metal song???? Cought cool is a dark jazzy new wave song, not metal XD
My only critique is to look up how to pronounce certain words. It’s load eye, not Lodi. I’ve noticed this in a few videos you don’t pronounce things right.
You must learn alot from reading your pronuciations are off. Good videos!
Speak into the microphone 🎤, squid 🧠 brain.
Love their music but some of their lyrics go a little too far for me.
That’s understandable
The maggots in the iron lung won't copulate

It's pronounced "Low-die" NJ...no big deal, just had to comment bc ur 1st I've ever heard mispronounce it. Obviously it's still good vid.
Oh really? Wonder if it’s a regionality thing since people around me always pronounce it the other way. Good to know - thanks!
