  • If you want to use your smartphone for navigation, calls, messages and WhatsApp, you'll need Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The software built into most new car infotainment systems allows you to seamlessly connect to your car and in many cases offers more functionality than the car's original system.
    Join our tech guru Tomi Adebayo (aka ‪@GadgetsBoy‬) he takes a deep dive into both systems to see which offers the best features. Should you switch handsets and operating systems to get the smoothest in-car experience? Does Apple or Google do the best job of connecting your favourite apps to your car?
    As always, let us know what you think in the comments below. Check out more of Tomi's tech explainers on the ‪@Electrifyingcom‬ channel.

    You asked Android for a charging station and Apple for a charging point. Not the same question may have different results.

    • @blueeyedbaer
      @blueeyedbaer Před 2 lety +6

      Exactly. I tried both "show me the nearest charging point" and "show me the nearest charging station" on Google Assistant and it showed me different results.

    You said Charging Station for Android, and Charging Point for Apple. Not an equal test. Besides with Android, you can use Zap Map.........

  • @ianlyons6563
    @ianlyons6563 Před 2 lety +13

    Shame this wasnt that in depth...also im sure it'll be pointed out that asking one for a charging STATION as opposed to the other a charging POINT would've likely influenced the outcome.

  • @TerjeL

    Would be interesting if you used the same words when asking the questions.

    • @clasqm

      Would also be interesting to try voice commands on the road, with tyre noise, windrush and trucks rumbling on either side. Siri struggles with my accent even under the quietest of circumstances.

    Slight difference between charging station and charging point. No wonder it sent you to London. 😃

  • @lgwynjones
    @lgwynjones Před 2 lety +6

    In the getting directions for Android Auto you said " find me the nearest charging STATION" and with Apple Car Play you said " find me the nearest charging POINT" surely you should use the same terminology for a fair result🤔

    I agree with You Tube, depending on how modern your phone is will determine what and how your cars availability is after all some mobiles are pretty useless on both Android and Apple Car Play.

    Personally I’d prefer the one that gave you good charging options and directions rather than more wallpaper options - so Apple Car Play for me.

    • @tevadalbnegru281
      @tevadalbnegru281 Před rokem

      is not only wallpaper 🤣🤣🤣 - you can add youtube or play local videos or a browser if you want (via develeper options) on Android Auto - Can you do this on CarPlay ?

  • @fredericrevaz1469

    It would be better to have a comparaison between the onboard infotainment system and Android/CarPlay.

  • @getmoreforyourcar-bobjones

    When yrying to find the nearest charging point you asked Android Auto for a charging 'station' and Siri for a charging 'point'... so no wonder you hot a better response... a bit unfair there

  • @tuka5871

    Kinda stupid buying a new phone just for Apple CarPlay vs Android auto

  • @roy355

    I have had the similar delays that you saw on Android Auto with Car Play. Overall I say it is a draw. That said, with my experience, Apple Car Play stays connected for hours on a long drive as compared to Android Auto which freezes after about 6 to 7 hours of driving.

  • @nagashtheforsaken
    @nagashtheforsaken Před 6 měsíci

    Great job on the comparison. Give you props for covering all the bases and being neutral. One thing I would have added was playing music, selecting songs, etc. I've noticed that apple does a better job of handling music than my android, which irritates me, and that often transfers to car play. For example, my car often turns off the shuffle feature, but my old iPhone never had this issue. Also, using voice commands to play songs is better as well.

  • @examinerian
    @examinerian Před 2 lety +3

    Just say "Car charger" or "Tesla Supercharger" - Google finds a choice of either near me near-instantly.
    It's not all flawless, though, and if I fancy it up with "Find me a..." then my 5g Moto tries to turn on the FM receiver. So, just like the old Mercedes COMAND system then!

    Android Auto is great. I like the user interface & Google maps is the best. I'm an Android user across phone, tablet, TV!
    I don't think one is better than the other is whatever eco system your in.
    I find Google assistant fine for asking to make calls and messages.

  • @tevadalbnegru281
    @tevadalbnegru281 Před rokem +1

    it depends a lot how stable it is your connection (cellular network) when you use voice commands - if i'm not wrong, the `work` of recognition is made on their server and then you will have the result. So, bad connection, bad voice assistant (or i'm wrong ... )

  • @geoffhemingway3926
    @geoffhemingway3926 Před 2 lety +5

    I have to agree with the comments below - a bit of a pointless exercise. Also it was hardly a comprehensive comparison - for example, how they compare when dealing with your favourite music streaming service? Or how many map options are available? Just a couple of examples; I'm sure there are many more!

  • @terencetcf
    @terencetcf Před rokem

    Few thing you missed here. 1. you can use you mobile app (google map, waze) even it is connected to the CarPlay. 2. The waze in Apple just more polish compare to the Android version. 3. Navigating with the menu items with the car's arrow buttons/dials is easier on CarPlay.

    For drivers of the VW eUP, Seat Mii (I am one), Skoda Citigo, which all have a landscape cradle for phones acting as the car display (efficient, sensible, agile), the move by Google to prevent Android Auto from running on phone screens is idiotic. Their alternative - Use Google Assistant Driving Mode… which does not rotate to landscape 🙃

  • @usaverageguy
    @usaverageguy Před 2 lety +2

    Why does it matter? If you have an I phone you will use Apple car play. If you have an Android phone you will use Android Auto. Unless you would consider changing phones to change your experience in car.

    You should probably try to use the same wordage when doing comparisons. Who knows whether the software may be making a difference between a charging station and charging point and thus giving you different results... Also - with android auto you don't have to wait to start talking when asking to send a message, so you kind of slowed yourself down there... Not defending either one, but try to set same parameters for same tests, and also use the software as intended, may give you more objective results.

    This is a no brainer. Phones are expensive so no one is going to change on the result of this test. I use apple and it works very well in my much lower priced Corsa e. Do I want to customise anything, NO WAY, life is complicated enough. Good video but rather pointless. Sorry.

    Your review stands in sharp contrast to most others, where Google Maps and speech recognition is the clear winner on Android Auto. Still as others have said, what you use is dictated by the phone you have.

  • @alunhoskins4513
    @alunhoskins4513 Před 2 lety +1

    It’s all down to which phone/operating system you use, nothing else. I use both, two vehicles/two phones, and both systems have their shortcomings.
    Yes Apple Car Play is still undoubtedly the better system.
    In fairness though Android Auto does give you far more customisation options….of a fairly crappy and more temperamental experience.

  • @RecklessTurtle
    @RecklessTurtle Před 2 lety +2

    Both systems reflect their underlying principles. Apple being more conservative and limiting and not incorporating the latest features whereas Android could be more flexible, more modern but reliability takes a BIG hit. Not to mention, in my experience, Android Auto from my Samsung crashes way more often than that of my wife's iPhone Apple CarPlay. On the other hand, I don't like the interface of Apple CarPlay, it feels cumbersome. For me, if I'm casually driving, I prefer Android Auto but if I'm navigating or doing something important, I switch to Apple CarPlay.

    • @AquaStevae

    Yes, those users are halfwits, who have been indoctrinated by CRapple to believe anything they tell them. They are called "i"idiots, and sheep can outwit them. Why there are fifty thousand vids about this is beyond me. It's a very simple fact based choice. AA is better functionally, with better nav, music and info. ACP is better looking. It is more stylish with a better graphical interphase. That's it. Case Closed. You can choose form over function, or function over form. It's not rocket science.
