Ballard blades compared to OEM hustler hyperdrive blades.

- I’m using a right angle impact from Ingersoll rand to remove the blades. So far I’ve noticed that the Ballard highlift Blades make a more refined stripe in the grass. For the money they are a win in my opinion.
Total difference once the new blades were changed.
The lawn looks great.
Thanks
You have the Best little helper ❤️
I mowed for a living for years i always wore eye and ear protection even on my riders, i have had stuff manage to fly up and hit my eye protection while on my zero turn mowers
Thanks for the advice
Been watching Ballard before he started inventions. What an amazing company that's storming the commercial scene! Keep us updated on the condition of them post season!
I will. I’ve posted again on them after this video. So far they are great. I’ve got roughly 25hrs on them cutting everything from yard to overgrown fields.
@@americandream_89 just watched it. Great job on a honest review! Aside from hustlers being great to begin with. Just adds to the quality
@@lifeintornadoalley I truly think they are a good blade. I’ve seen so many say they are bad. This is my first set so maybe I got the one good blade they made but I don’t think so. I’ve currently hit a few rocks, limbs and a 3x4 without any damage to the blade. Not to mention they are almost half the cost of OEM.
What's your solution to stragglers? I have 2 rows, right where the center blade meets the outer blade on each side. I tried Rotary Copperhead and hustler oem mulch blades that came with the mulch kit and it's driving me nuts. I had to make 3-4 passes super slow, all types of grass, weeds, etc. I'm going to try oem high lift non mulch blades before I remove the mulch kit completely. Deck is leveled and pitched properly, rpm high, brand new blades, tire pressure dialed in, I can't figure out why the cut quality sucks.
A quick guess would be the mulching kit. But every grass type is different. The high lifts will help with weeds like dandelions. All I run is high lift blades. I’ve never ran a mulching blade and my deck does not have the insert kit to mulch.
I think what you called a coating is tungsten carbide. It keeps a blade sharper, longer. It is very tough!
Thanks for the info
Throw grass seed with manure fertilizer and your grass will look awesome had same problem with my yard grass wasn't growing like it should have mow once a month after that mix every 2 weeks
I’ve got compost my neighbor makes from horses so I usually spread that before seeding. Thanks for the advice
What brand canopy are you running?
It’s from a company called Custom products of Litchfield, Inc.

Awesome video bud, half throttle while engaging pto will make the clutch last longer just a heads up
Thanks buddy. On the hyperdrive it has a notch showing where the Pto should be engaged. That is where I engage it. It does seem higher rpm than most to start the clutch. But I figure they did their R&D to put a engagement spot.
@@americandream_89 oh ok I apologize I didn't know on the newer ones I have a 2015 I appreciate your reply back very nice mower
@@geraldhawkins2643 no need to apologize I know you meant well. Thank you for taking the time to check the channel. I enjoy seeing people’s thoughts
@@americandream_89 just a taught on that, I wouldn't put to much weight ont that pto engagement notch, I seen many ZT that the lever is not adjusted the same, meaning you will get, half and full throttle at different spot. Nothing is wrong with them, it's just different cableounting and adjustment. I'v had 2 Hustler Raptor sitting side by side and the throttle and not set the same. I'v had a scag that closing the throttle it would push in the cable too much and was bending the steel rod, have we not caught it it could have ben a premature failure. If you want to trust that notch you should verify if there is a cable adjustment and that your half throttle is at your engagement notch.
@@tg0003bpa thanks for the info and concern. Everything looks to be correct on my cable and it truly engages well. I think hustler has a big clutch compared to most on the hyperdrive.
Just out of curiosity, in your order of observations which turf care specific tasks would you prefer the results or performance of the ‘Hyperdrive’s’ over the ZTrak 970R?
Both are great mowers and both will do about anything you need. The hyperdrive is just so smooth and comfortable it’s hard to want to get on anything else. As far as cutting grass both will do and excellent job. The hyperdrive to me seems to stripe better in my grass type. You can mow faster with the hyperdrive as it holds its composure over, rough terrain, better.
So how have the Ballard blades been cutting
Are they worth getting??
So far great. I haven’t hit anything yet to test hardness. I’ve only got about 12hr on them. But for the money difference they seem good.
@@americandream_89 thanx you sold me on them !!👍
@@ramirocortez6392 let me know how they do.
@@americandream_89 just received and mowed with Ballard high rise blades definitely shoots the grass out!!!!!! And helps striping!!!! On my toro 3000 zmaster 👍👍
oem last better
The Oem blade is much beefier. It seems to be a much better blade.
These blades seem to be thinner and of a softer metal compared to oem. I wouldn't recommend them cause they do not last but for about a week in a commercial setting and that's no good. With oem I could get 3 to 4 sharpenings and have them last close to a month.
@@Draega007 I only cut my property. It takes me forever to run blades down. I can’t attest for commercial use. Thanks for the info
@@americandream_89 yea they will work for just mowing one property multiple times a month for sure. I'm having a hard time finding oem blades which is why I tried them out. If a lawncare guy/gal reads this comment though I wouldn't recommend them for commercial use except for an absolute last resort, they're just not strong enough for everyday use.
Not a good idea to mow with your child on board. Little boy in Tenn. Just lost his hand on a zero turn with his mom mowing.
Did you here in recent news that a lady bus driver passed out behind the wheel and a young student took control of the bus while all the other kids were screaming and crying during the whole ordeal ?
Guess what that young kid attributes his heroic actions to ? His dad making him drive tractors , mowers, and the farm truck since he was 4 years old.
Look it up on Google
I’m sure you do things that are not good ideas!
