    Oh your very close to 1K and I'm sure by Christmas you will hit your goal 👍Yea I never used X blades before. Oh I like that how you put the regular and gator blades like that. First time I've seen that. Oh yea the grass looks like that here also. I agree invest around in the beginning of June for the X blades. Oh ok I was just thinking of mulching the leaves with them, well I'll stick with the gator blades for the leaves. Great pros and cons brother 👊💯

    I've thought about trying that but never have. After watching you explain it this way, I think I'll bite the bullet and give it a swing. Thanks for your imput.

      My pleasure Shelby. They work really well on bihia grass, dandelions and such. Make sure your mower spindles can house the x configuration. I know my Craftsman z6400 can't because the spindle has a star where the blade goes.

    Thanks brother for the great information, you just save me quite a bit of money cause I was looking at those for next year and I think I’ll pass now

      They're great for saving time and for taller grasses such as bihia. Glad I was able to help.

    Good video. What if you put the gator blades on first & let the high lift give the better cut? Thanks for sharing 🙂.

      I thought about that also. I saw a video that stated that by putting the gator on the bottom it chews up the clippings allowing the high lift blade to more easily discharge them being they're smaller in size. Not sure if that's true or not.

    I'm considering doing an X-blade configuration (many adapters available now besides Ballard) to specifically deal with the Bahaia Shoots you first mentioned. I'm 100% mulching year-long with a plug except in the fall when I want to suck up the leaves. Even then I still use the mulch blades but with the leaf vac attached to the discharge. All that's been working pretty well for me except mid-summer when I am dealing with about 5 acres of Bahaia shoots. Same as you, I have to really really go slow or I have to go back and hit the stragglers.
    So my question is specifically to get the stragglers, do you recommend doing the X-blade configuration? I was thinking of using a flat blade or low-lift blade with the mulch blade.
    Your thoughts?

      @brianklecker6127 thanks for watching. My thoughts are, I would stop mulching bahia grass. All that does is put the seeds in the ground, causing them to germinate faster and make the bahia grass thicker unless that's what you want. That will also lead to a huge thatch problem. I would instead start mulching the leaves into the ground. They break down and add nutrients to the soil, and mulching helps prevent the germination of weed seeds.
      X-blades is really a personal preference. I tried them and stopped using them completely because all they did was clog my decks, but I was using gator blades along with a high lift blade. The gator blade grind up the clippings, and the high lift blades would coat the underside of the deck with thick, wet blobs of minced grass. I spent more time cleaning the decks out than mowing. I hope this helps.

      @@BigSouthOutdoorsTV we have two areas of lawn; the nice lawn around the house which is Bermuda (very sandy area in this area) and the 5 acres around the house it was planted with Bahaia. So in that area, I want to have more Bahaia to fill in the bare areas. Given that, I'm assuming you'd change your suggestion about the mulching and the Bahaia seeds? I never mow when it's wet so I don't generally have issues with anything sticking to my deck.

    Did you also notice it throws your measurements off about a 1/2 inch? I’m using a hustler fastrak 54 and I have no more adjustments. Any ideas?

    • @BigSouthOutdoorsTV
      @BigSouthOutdoorsTV  Před rokem

      YES!! The only thing I can tell you (what I ended up doing) is getting the blade height as close as I could to the deck height number and compensating by going up on the adjustment height that amount. For instance, if I want to cut at 3 inches, I put the dect height on 3.25. It's not quite that exact number, but it's within 1/8 inch. Although every blade thickness is different, it's not noticeable to most people. No one I know is going to get out on their lawn with a ruler and measure each blade. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking out my channel. I hope you'll consider subscribing if you haven't already. Happy mowing!
