oh my you guys have no idea what you have stepped into :) the song Ghost Love Score from this legendary and seminal concert is the most reacted to song on YT ever! with some vocal coach reactors having over 2.5 Million views, & yes you had the right version of Song Of Myself,the poem is not done in live shows.
Most of their songs are actually compositions,not your average straight up typical music structure,the fan base on YT is massive,very active and passionate.Stay with live performances as they excel at it & this Wacken 2013 is epic. not rock opera tho,it's symphonic metal, Bless The Child is another fantastic song from this concert,also StoryTime,EverDream & Romanticide, keep in mind that all song recommendations from everyone are good,Floor Jansen (Dutch) is the 3rd,current since 2012 & final vocalist,she had only been in with the band for 10 months at this time,and yes they are still active,2020 release of Human//Nature is amazing with lyric videos avail - no live yet,Floor also dropped some recent YT covers that have just blown up on YT : Alone-Heart,Adagio - Lara Fabian, Ave maria, Oblivion, & others, and her vocal diversity is on full display with her performances from the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers 2019 - on YT, she sings : Shallow,Phantom of The Opera with Henk Poort - the orig Dutch Phantom,she opened the show with Vilja Lied and blew the other singers minds. so welcome aboard this NW journey with their amazing singer Floor, it's a fantastic ride. cheers

Fellow Brit here (Hartlepool in the north east) it's refreshing to see reactions from people who don't jump up and down,fake tears and screaming. Nightwish are incredible I won't go into all their particulars especially as there are plenty of comments outlining their history etc. However this band has something very special about them. With Floor as front woman they have such a powerful sound and presence live. She can sing whatever she likes she's that versatile. Their compositions are complex yet catchy and the lyrics are very clever and go into such varied subjects such as evolution, biology, fantasy and depression, love and loss. Nightwish are definitely best heard live and as your reactions have all been at wacken 2013 perhaps do a song from their Wembley concert (2015) or Tampere Finland (2015)or Buenos Aires Argentina (2018) you won't regret it. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw, you both enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. You stated correctly, the live version is shorter, because the last part named "Love" it's indeed a deep meaningful poem, not suited for a live show. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

There is no typical Nightwish song as others have said.
Rock opera, Celtic Rock, Thrash, Ballards, Opera, Classical, Jazz... you name it, they play it.
They have one of the best composers/song writers in the world today with one of the best singers in the world today but all of them are top tier unmatched musicians that have no egos and love what they do.
They are a one of a kind band, utterly unique and unmatched.
You got no idea LOL, Nightwish is the most musically diverse band I have ever heard in my 44 years on Earth! Floor (current, 3rd overall lead singer) truly adds to the magic, with her incredible range and ability to suddenly change singing styles! They will surprise you over and over! Looking forward to more from you gents!

Almost everybody will tell you to listen to Ghost Love Score for the same show - Wacken 2013. You have just met the best female voice in the world - again, listen to Ghost Love Score, and you get to see about 30-40% Floor voice capacities - Most singers sing what they can - Floor sings what she wants (as long as she feel the song) She's a storyteller (and so is Marko, the bass player who sang the chorus with her on this song) Any genre, from Opera to Growling and everything in between.

It was another Finnish band called Lordi in Eurovision song contest with their song Hard Rock Hallelujah, not a Norwegian. We even have a group of various heavy metal singers touring annually before Xmas singing heavy metal versions of most popular Christmas songs. How cool is that!?

That 13,5 minute version you mentioned, is a tribute to Ann who sadly passed away last year - this song was her favorite Nightwish song. Ann was the godmother of the Nightwish Army, and always welcomed new reactors into the Nightwish Universe - the role Gabriel now has taken responsibility of (doing a great job 👍)
Symphonic Metal is deep deep lyrics, extremely tight music, often composed in chapters like symphony music - and they have the top of the top in singers in the world, not kidding, and often female lead singers, all highly trained and skilled, which will become obvious when you look deeper into Symphonic Metal - just follow Gabriel's lead.

Be prepared for the Nightwish Army to invade your channel. And if you find a comment by Gabriel Bardac - trust him. How much talent do you want on one stage? They are all at the top of the technical tree. World-class musicians who check their ego at the door and serve the music and its needs and, most importantly, truly care about their fans (and also the backstage people who make things happen for them). This whole set by them will go down as one of the best live performances in history and I am not fan-boying here. It's like they all came down from Asgard to give us a glimpse of perfection before we all crawl back to our oblivion again.

Nightwish Army Germany checking in. You started with one of the best Songs from that Concert. Do yourself a treat and start with Ghost Love Story from that Concert.....that is the best point to start your Dive into the Rabbithole called Nightwish. Prepare for a Ride. And it will be a good one :-)....... and by looking at your faces I think that our Queen of Valkyries captured two more souls....dont resist...this happens to all of us. Every Song from them is different. Just follow the List from Gabriel - he knows. You will not be disappointed. And if you dont know which song from Wacken 2013 should be your next - choose one. Which one ever....All Killers - no filler.

I 1st heard NW about 20yrs ago,liked a few songs over the yrs,but then I heard about this band called AfterForever with a very tall beautiful & talented singer,when I 1st heard Floor sing a cover of Alone with AF I was SLAYED and since then I have been a fan ,then she came to Nightwish and sublime serendipity took place,and so it goes,magic,pure and simple.

Hi guys, I'm in the UK and have been listening to Nightwish since lockdown and am totally addicted especially to this lead singer, Floor Jansen. Her range of singing styles and range is phenominal. This is one of their more basic songs showing very little of her abilities. Try Ghost Love Score, ten minutes of class.

Hi guys. I think you’re just starting to realise that Nightwish and their army and not just another band and fans. All the songs are very different. I think the difference between Nightwish and evanescence (well, one of the differences - i may be a little biased towards Nightwish but I still like Evanescence) is, that after hearing 3 songs of evanescence (like "my immortal" "call me when you're sober" and "bring me to life") you know what the band is about and what to expect from them. With Nightwish you go for 3 songs (lets say "song of myself" "Kiss while your lips are still red" and "Wishmaster) and wonder what song to expect next. Just because they are so diverse.
Well actually now that I think of it, there are more differences between Nightwish and Evanescence than there are simularities. The only similiar things are they are a band and have a female lead.
If you do more, you gonna see/hear what I mean.

A '7' is very modest for us Nightwish Army. You will definitely up this grade as you listen to more songs of them especially with our Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen. You now heard only a small fraction of what she is able to do with her voice. She is considered the best and most versatile female singer of our time. As live concerts with Nightwish were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation Floor discovered CZcams in the last year and left many nice presents on her CZcams channel. Stunning covers, chats with other singers, vocal masterclasses and so much more. Her 'Fan Friday' videos are hilarious. To see how she developed her versatility check out her former bands 'After Forever' and 'Revamp'. My favourite song with After Forever is 'Energize Me'. They made a very good music video out of this one. She joined the band at the age of 16 in 1997. After they disbanded in 2009, Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growling in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. September 2012 came the call from Nightwish to fill in to finish their American Tour at first. But she stayed on for the rest of their world tour, culminating in the now legendary Wacken concert. After this Floor became a permanent member of Nightwish. A combination made in Walhalla. She kept on performing with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became clear that she couldn't combine the two for much longer, so they disbanded in 2016. Here side project 'Northward' is also worth a look. The song 'When Love Died' is a must see. Her mindblowing performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country, where she was relatively unknown until then. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (4 years now). a horse and pony, a dog and 3 cats she found this.

UK Senior Division reporting for duty. 'Ghost Love Score' is the entry point for most new reactors to Nightwish. It features Floor's vocal range, though only a percentage of her amazing vocal ability. Tuomas (too - oh - mass) on keyboards - our Metal Mozart - writes the vast majority of the music and just about all of the lyrics. He founded the band back in 1996. Every song you do will surprise you in one way or another.

Nightwish is the pioneer of this genre and the most awesome symphonic metal band. They do what they want ...all genres just check more their so versatile material. They do not have a WRONG song...all are awesome. The keyboard player is the best music writer of modern times. He is also a poet and there is a poem in the end of this song. In some songs there is so intelligent message that most people just do not understand them and the deepness of them. Do first this whole concert, then do Tampere concert 2015, then do "End of an Era" 2005, then do "From Wishes to Eternity" 2000 and many more....you start to get the idea and surely you have thumb up likes plenty.
I suppose that by the heavy metal band in Eurovision song contents you meant Finnish band Lordi, who presented Hard Rock Hallelujah. That was the first and only time Finland won the Eurovision.
I remember watching that, it was amazing, especially compared to the rest of the songs done that night.

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen).
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had, she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other vocalists are -
Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals.
Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals.
Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera.
The other band members are -
Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland)
Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland)
Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland)
Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland)
Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom)
Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied.
The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
This was the 14th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Ghost Love Score, Storytime, Romanticide, Ghost River, Ever Dream, Dark Chest of Wonders, Nemo, Amaranth and I Wish I had an Angel all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken).
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.
Prepare for the Nighwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘

The thing to know is, there doesn't seem to be a typical Nightwish song. There are similarities, big guitar and keyboard riffs in support of vocals, compositional tricks you'll soon recognize and of course a powerful woman's voice, but lyrical mood, rhythmic changes etc. can vary wildly, as you'll find in this concert, which is an increasingly key moment in the bands history.

I don't know about the other one but one of the two better selling Bands from Finland might be Lordi, the Winner of the european song contest 2006.
Fun fact: Nightwish attended the national elections for the ESC in 2000. They got an overwhelmingly 1st place from the public vote but the jury put them in 2nd to last place so their total rank was 3rd in the end and they didn't attend the ESC that year. People all over europe predicted, Nightwish could have easily won the ESC 2000 if they had attended.

Not sure if someone else has already mentioned this but Nightwish wrote and performed a song called, "Sleepwalker" for the national Finnish Eurovision Song Contest tryouts in 2000. Although they placed first in the Finnish telephone vote, the jury overruled them, selecting Nina Åström instead. So metal would have to wait a few years.

Hello British guys in COVID, welcome into the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredible talented female vocalist Floor Jansen (say Yahn-Sen) Although the band is Finnish their 3rd female vocalist Floor is not. She’s from the Netherlands (Dutch).
This song has four parts but only part #1 till #3 are always performed live. Part #4 (named: love) is more or less the poem spoken by multiple people ending in “all that left is the change from G to E minor. (The whole text of part #4 is projected during the song on the screen behind the band)

We do try to comment back as much as possible although the Nightwish Army has such a big army we can only do our best. All the performance in UK of Nightwish are sold out in a couple of hours. So Nightwish is very populair in UK (great concert in Wembley 2015 on CZcams). Floor Jansen is a fantastic singer. No band is live so good as Nightwish. Even better than the studio. Nice reaction guys. Next...Storytime and of course the legendary Ghost love Score or Noise from the new album Human Nature. So many variations to recommend. Ghost Love Score is very film like. Heavier are Romanticide and Yours Is An Empty Hope. The Islander is pure folk.
I'll recommend, for now, Dark Chest Of Wonders or Devil And Rge Deep Dark Ocean.
Leave Poet And The Pendulum or Greatest Show On Earth (24 mins) for a bit.

Dear Brits in Lockdown, greetings from Finnish branch of Nightwish Army. I lived in UK some years ago and because of that there are two more British fans: my lovely nieces. I fell in love with Nightwish already in the 90's (of course, the band is from my native country), but it was this lockdown that really made me go deeper into that rabbit hole. The 13+ minute version you speak of, came from their album, Imaginaerum, track twelve. That version features Annette Olzon, successor to Tarja Turunen. Annette had a different vocal quality which, according to some, didn't really fit the genre, nevertheless, it is Annette that originally sang The Poet and the Pendulum, from the album Dark Passion Play. The Poet and the Pendulum was something of a catharsis for Tuomas who was dealing with the fall-out, following the dismissal of Tarja from the band, which led to a really ugly depression. As many would agree, The Poet and the Pendulum is definitely one of the songs to listen to. For a while, it was the longest songs they ever produced until The Greatest Show on Earth from the album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, released in 2015. Endless Forms Most Beautiful is also one to check out, particularly the iteration performed live at Ratina Stadium in Tampere. There is also one at Wembley where Richard Dawkins makes an appearance to deliver his own quotation, which had been written into the song.

When you hear enough from NW especiall Wacken show. You will see the full extent of Floor Jansen' s voice quality. Ghost love Score will knock your socks off. Especially the last 5 minutes. Floor was not an official member of the band during this 2013 concert. She can sing the telephone book if asked. She is a voice coach, and opera singer. You will appreciate Marko the base player's voice. Romanticide is a bit heavier, Yours Is An Empty Hope , is really to the heavy side with Floor Jansen doing the growling. Story Time is another good song. Pink Floyd's high hopes cover by NW really highlights the talent of this group. I recommend you listen to floyds version first, then react to NW .

Nightwish - Dead Boy's Poem live in Beunos Aires 2018 Decades Tour is a good one to continue tuning your ears into good music. Britpop, BTS, Ariana etc and general pop music (3 minutes of mundane stuff thrown at us by the radio stations) just does not come anywhere near. Check out Epica as well.

Oh, this is a rabbit hole you want to go down! A fantastic band with a spectacular singer, Floor Jansen. No two songs are the same, some heavy and others lighter. For another great heavy metal band, try Lovebites, an all female Japanese group who are superb musicians, and easy on the eyes. Cheers.

Greetings from Gtr Manchester. I'm 72 and found Nightwish just before the first lockdown. I was never into Metal, screaming men with no voices didn't appeal to me. Then the revelation of Nightwish and they have carried me through Isolation and Lockdown. They are the most diverse band I have ever heard and I rate them at the same level as Pink Floyd, Queen and The Who. Floor Jansen can sing anything, she is a music teacher and has a CZcams channel where she has released covers and Masterclass video's during Lockdown. Most of her covers are better than the originals. You will find that every song is different and watching the LIve versions is always better. Enjoy.
Wacken is the biggest Metal Festival on Earth with 80k+ people and they were headlining it in 2013. I guess that says it all about Nightwish. Hope to see them live again in December 2021 in Hamburg, Germany. Hope this damn Virus is not stopping me (fingerscross). Cheers from Northern Germany (just 80km from Wacken, btw :-))

Every Nightwish song is different with surprises galore within each. They go soft, medium and hard. You have only heard a small portion of what the lead singer Floor Jansen is capable of, which is every genre known to mankind. Hope you continue your journey because I really enjoyed your commentary. If you want to continue with the heavier songs then Storytime or the show closer Last Ride of the Day from Wacken 2013. For something lighter then Ghost Love Score also from same concert. 😀

Which is not a problem for reactors because there has to be about a hundred Nightwish songs out there on CZcams in an official live video format recorded from a performance from somewhere in the world.. take your pick, the Nightwish Army loves it all. 1st brigade, N.
