Anecdote mini game: once per 15 minutes roll a D6. On a 1-2 Pat starts an anecdote with “I was at a Wedding once”. On a 3-4 Geoff starts an anecdote with “When I was in the army”. Finally on a 5-6 Peachy starts an anecdote with “Back in Workshop”.

Annie doesn't know it, but she's a hero of mine. Anyone that sees a deficiency, and instead of complaining about it till someone else addresses it, they step-up and fix it themselves, is a person to be admired and respected. I first encountered Bad Squiddo ages ago on twitter, and bought a fantastic Lady Pirate from her, and much later picked up her Female Soviet Sniper teams. So glad she's still going strong. Great stuff, and a great person.

That was a lovely (and as ever chaotic) chat! Annie has done an amazing job in expanding the choice out there for people that have been put off by miniatures and the aesthetics that dominated the market for so long and she seems like a wonderful bubbly person.
Can't wait for you to reorganise getting Trish Carden on the show, one of my all time favourite sculptors, how can she not be, many of us grew up with her amazing figures. And she is a wonderful, friendly, insightful person too with everything she shares online about life, art and the miniatures/gaming industry.

Was at ukge, managed to get a picture with (and pegged by) peachy, didn't manage to catch everyone else but you all seemed to be having a great time, was my first time there and will 100% be going next year, so much to see and do there
Patrick! Glue the flying stand to the base, wrap it in clingfilm and the glue the model on. Undercoat and paint it, peel off the clingfilm. Its easier than maskin tape

I knew Annie as The Dice Bag Lady already, but she turned up to my local war games show in the earliest days of Bad Squiddo, when I was in need of a mini for one of my dungeon bash players.
Annie was suuuper nice and helped me find the absolute most perfect miniature.

I am just getting into miniature modelling/painting. This was an entertaining video with lots of different aspects of the hobby. Hearing about purists opposed to female soldiers and then about a bearded cow slaying at tournaments was interesting. I enjoyed hearing how Annie started up her business and researched her characters.

Thanks for this, learning that Painting Phase has the best interviews! I didn't know about Bad Squiddo before, as a Dad of 3 girls and a boy, always looking for inspirational female minis. As the girls have got more interested, I notice more discrepancies. Also gotta give a shout out for North Star miniatures for Frostgrave, they also have awesome women characters, just finished putting together the soldiers, thx team..

Hey guys love the show. But just listening through this now I noticed you mentioned the tuna can -> lothern sky cutter thing. There's lots of rumours going around but basically what happened was that the guy got hos models stolen the day before ETC, so he had to find some replacements to still be able to participate in the tournament. People aren't as bad as the internet wants you to believe. All the love

On women in RPGs vs Wargames, I imagine there's an issue of general popularity as well. More RPG players means more recruitment opportunities. Add that to the relatively small overhead allowing a greater variety of games being published and the only player needing to own anything for games to be played being the one running, you get a better recruitment chance for unengaged individuals, many of which are women due to aforementioned societal factors. Plus game stores and comic shops haven't had a good societal reputation until the mainstreaming of nerd culture, so you create an interesting feedback loop when talking about something already difficult to recruit for.

Where else on the internet can you go almost seamlessly from felching to Terence Cuneo? My Dad was in the Army for 22 years and my parents have had a pair of Cuneo prints on the dining room wall for as long as I've been alive. @The Painting Phase It's a great little game and the miniatures have so much character. Michael sculpts them all himself, cast's all the metal minis and wrote all the rules. Both Michael and his wife Jo, are always on their social media responding to questions and commenting on painted minis. It's probably the nicest online community I have ever been part of.

This has been a fantastic vid, you've all clearly enjoyed yourselves & its infectious! I've had my eye on some Bad Squiddo Post Apoc mini's for a while now to use in Zona Alfa...Totally agree with Geoff on the infinity range, bought the Ariadna starter pack, also to use for Zona Alfa & while 2 of the models are women in full tactical gear, there is that one lady with her midriff showing tussling her hair that just puts me off them.
I also used to hate the creepy infinity women but that range is mostly gone or being fazed out. The new models have men and women in the same armour. The only difference is a slight height variation. Well worth looking into again!
Man Peacheys comments about the Illustration course made me laugh, great summisation of the Fine Art people on our course. And there's nothing wrong with scraping a 2:2 dude, never did me any harm 😅

With leviathan coming out soon, you should do a tutorial video showing the range of the different tyranid hivefleet color schemes. The process for painting is all the same. Just point out the different base and highlight colors.

Great interview - really happy to have Annie and Bad Squiddo in the industry.
One thing that rubs me the wrong way about some games is they seem to be ... Ok, let's go with an example - the intro page for Black Powder is the following:
"Black Powder is a game for the militarily inclined gentlemen with straight backs, bristling beards and rheumy eyes that have seen a thing or two."
And later states:
"Secure the doors against the intrusion of womenfolk as yet unfamiliar with the conventions of war."
While I do think it's meant to be parody, it's still got to be a bit off-putting for a complete outsider whose interest might have been piqued?

I got in trouble as a kid for playing with my sister's toys... it was the great toy war of '87 when a joint task force of Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats and Action Force invaded my sister's room to over throw the evil despot Barbie. Pretty much demolished Barbie's dream house and used red felt tip pen to show where all the Barbies got shot... not even Barbie's Wedding Dress survived.
Didn’t sound like Barbie stood much of a chance.

Really is the best mini painting and hobbying podcast ever ! As an Australian with English parent i love the sense of humour we share that i dont always relate to with podcasts from the US
This makes me think of my distaste for what slaanesh is seen as. It’s always viewed as sexual. But it’s so much more. Excess and obsession can be martial prowess or anything considered an art. Not just pegging and nipps

Geoff's rant about the style of the minaitures is spot on.
I have the mini he was on about and use her for a Cyberpunk game where she fits in because everything is futuristic and anime and somewhat sexy/cringey all at the same time.
However, i totally get the whole thing about the aesthetic within an army, especially when they're meant to be in a somewhat serious combat force. When I trained in the early 2000's, I remember being shouted at for forgetting to do a button up during inspection after a route march during the summer, we'd been given permission to unbutton whilst marching, but went on parade as we returned...rookie mistake on my part. Iimagine the response if a female recruit turned out dressed like the mini.
Sculpt the mini to the theme of your game setting and don't try to assume the sexualised model is what we want to buy (even though i did) as Geoff said.
I have the Onna Bugeisha set from Annie for my Samurai (because Samurai in general, but especially Samurai Women (google Tomoe Gozen) are awesomely badass) and i mean to pick some of the other stuff up at some point. I do love her enthusiam in talking about her company and the historical research she coes for a project, great episode guys.
I recognised Annie at a show once. I rather awkwardly declared "I have one of your guinea pigs". Minis. I didn't steal your pets. I later saw her again that weekend in a pet store, and ran and hid so as to not look like a crazy guinea pig stealing stalker. The end

Infinity has improved A LOT in this department, I suggest you check them out. Personally I like the sexy minis a lot more but nowadays they are a lot more homogenous and practical.

Have bought loads of minis from Bad Squiddo Games and they are amazing! 100% recommend. They are lovely people as well.
"Females" is simply the word used when you are explicitly differentiating from the more common male counterpart. Such as when emphasizing the role of women in a war. It is EXACTLY the reverse when people say something like "male nurses" or "male teachers." It's not weird it is language and communication.
I saw that chaos dwarf army in person before and thought it was really cool.
I always enjoyed the dodgy mini proxies though. Beany baby rat being used as a hellpit abomination was my personal pick.
