Six Flags Magic Mountain Review | Is this the Best Roller Coaster Park in the World?

- Six Flags Magic Mountain is considered by many to be the flagship park in the Six Flags chain and one of the best amusement parks in the world. This theme park in Valencia, California is home to the world's most roller coasters. Is the park as good as it's reputation suggests?

When I was a senior about to graduate high school back in 2012, our senior trip was to Magic Mountain's Grad Nite. Omg I cannot describe how awesome that was. Being in the fully opened park from 9PM to 6AM I got a night ride on almost every single coaster and a sunrise ride on Scream and Colossus which hadn't yet received its RMC conversion. To this day that night remains one of the best and most memorable of my life. ❤️ I love this park. I hate that it's an 8 hour drive from me but I hope to make a trip there asap.
That sounds awesome.
I love this park. This is one of my homeparks and Im so glad it is.
Glad it's reopen!
Can confirm Twisted Colossus closed on weekdays a few years ago. Was mad.
This is exactly why the lack of a rehab schedule is my biggest gripe with the park.

Thanks!
Love this coaster lineup so much.
It is excellent!
This will forever be my favorite six flags park since I grew up going here and is the reason I became an enthusiast. Btw you did a really great job with the video 😌
Thanks!
I hope you'll get more subscribers soon, you make so much content, everyday there's a new video and you drop so much knowledge. Thumbs up👍
Glad you enjoy it!
Cool video. I've been to this park twice. The abysmal operations and down time for many rides is a GIGANTIC black eye at all Six Flags parks IMO. Really really sad.
If the park had good ops, it would be perfect.
Especially love this park from RCT2.
Love RCT2!
I love the diverse coaster collection. The operations need beefed up badly. I saw one train ops on a Tuesday in June. Thankfully, I bought the top-level Flash Pass.
Hopefully the merger improves the ops.
It’s cool a park this major kept the old round up flat ride, most parks took them out in the 80s
It is nice it has stayed.
Went about a week and a half ago. This is now my #1 park, just period. Of course the coasters are awesome (X2 even gave me that childlike feeling of "excited nervousness" from not knowing what it would feel like) but I noticed a lot of little things I liked. Even though crouds were light they were running multiple trains, lines were short, and I was able to do everything+rerides in a day. The only closed coasters were one of the kiddie coasters, Riddler's Revenge (which I was planning to skip anyways due to foot problems I have from Great Adventure's Green Lanturn), and Superman (I mean I can't criticise Dragster/Ka and Dive Machines as one trick poneys and then be heartbroken I missed that). As for food, one of their food courts has Acai bowls (that were no more than I pay at similar places not at amusement parks). Never in a million years did I think I'd find something like that at an amusement park, certainly not a Six Flags park, and those bowls are now my favourite park food I've tried. The only real critique I have is that the park closed early for the Scream Break event, but it's likely a lot more crouded without that event as seperate ticked admission (as I saw with my frustration at Knott's) so I really can't complain about that so my only complaint is that it's a 5 hour FLIGHT, if I am able to go direct.
Glad you love the park! It really has a stacked ride lineup. Unfortunately ride closures are always going to be a problem here.
@@CanobieCoaster Yea, I'm glad it wasn't too much of an issue for me at Magic Mountain. That problem was much more frustrating at Knott's. I went in knowing Xellerator and Montezoma's Revenge would be down but riding Hangtime was a real struggle due to wind.
Yeah for new enthusiasts it's a great park to visit because of variety and many of the coasters are the best of their type, like Tatsu, Riddler's, Revolution, etc. Then of course it's the only park with X2. So if you're not sure what you like and don't like, that's the park to visit for sure!
It definitely has a wide range of coasters.
I’ve been here 5 times and still haven’t ridden everything. This park is insane!
There's a ton to do!
Its my homepark, I go at least four times a year and I love it. Still some rides im afraid to go on, but most are super fun. I agree about the summer heat and I always keep an eye out for a stretch of days in the mid 90s and go then. Disagree about the hill in the middle of the park, its not that tedious and usually you wind up in the Tatsu line anyway.
This park has so many rides worth experiencing.
Exscuse me what rides do you reccommend riding in Magic Mountain
Twisted Colossus, X2, Tatsu, West Coast Racers, and Full Throttle are my five favorite coasters there.
When will there be a X2 or Twisted Colossus review?
I don't have as much footage as I'd like for X2 and Twisted Colossus, mostly because the best shots are from outside the park. If I did one, I'd probably have to loop the same 2-3 videos over and over.
When you said twisted colossus is closed on weekdays I heard you say that it is on off peak days. 3:59 did you mean non peak days?
I call off-peak and non-peak the same.
If I go during a week day in November, and have fast lane, would it be possible for me to do everything once and a few rerides?
I would expect 1-2 coasters to be closed on a weekday that time of year. Crowds should be very light. The park will likely have limited hours, but you should get onto everything fast.
@@CanobieCoaster will twico be one of them?
SFMM is my home park. Best SF park in terms of coasters. Fiesta is better themed but I found the operations to be worse than MM and the overall coaster line-up is not as good as MM. I haven't been to Great Adventure, but I think Great America is the third SF park I would put in my top 3. Your advice is good. You should start off with Full Throttle, although it has been closed a bit at the start of the day. Superman is the coaster that has been down the most, and they basically only run one side. I fully expect that it's days are numbered and it would not surprise me if it is the next coaster to go. The other move I would like them to make is remove Scream, and convert Riddler into Kumba west.
I think Superman could last quite a few more years. Between the fact it's an icon, they have the parts from Tower of Terror and they only really need one of two tracks running. I actually like Riddler as is, so I'd hate to see it converted.
What do you think about the loudness of:
Mid course brake run from Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain
Mid course brake run from Steel Force at Dorney Park
Mid course brake run from Dominator at Kings Dominion
Mid course brake run from Boss at Six Flags St Louis
Steel Force's is very loud. I can't recall how loud the others are off the top of my head.
I won't miss how bad the area by Apocalypse looked.
Me neither!
I hope you review Great Adventure sometime soon
I will soon.
Magic mountain has 19 coasters not 20
I think magic mountain is the best six flags park followed by over georgia..nice content!
It's 19 or 20 depending if Superman counts as 1 or 2 different coaster credits to you. Thanks!
Now they will....with Wonder Woman....and COULD be 21, with two sides of Superman with one side forward the other backwards....like Canobie Coaster said.
Of all the Six Flags parks I've been to at this very moment, this is my favorite for sure. I actually like this park more than Cedar Point not just because they have more coasters but because I feel like they have a more diverse collection of coasters compared to Cedar Point. For example, Six Flags Magic Mountain has a floorless coaster, flying coaster, standup coaster, inverted coaster, 4-D coaster, hyper coaster, hybrid coaster, suspended coaster, dueling launch coaster, backwards strata coaster, and a launch coaster that has multiple launches including one that goes backwards. Cedar Point has a lot of coasters that feel the same compared to one another. And a lot of coasters that both parks have I think are mostly better here than at Cedar Point. For example I like Goliath more than Magnum XL 200, SCREAM! more than Rougarou (even when it was Mantis, Riddler's Revenge was better), Ninja more than Iron Dragon, Twisted Colossus more than Gemini and Revolution more than Corkscrew to name a few.
I think Cedar Point has the better coaster lineup and atmosphere, but both are great parks and I can see why one may prefer Magic Mountain.
I think magic mountain was clearly better but the addition of steel vengeance changes everything.
I agree this park is probably the best Six Flags park but please don't get it twisted. Cedar Point has a better selection of quality coasters, better atmosphere, a resort, and way way way better operations.
M K not really before steel vengeance magic mountains lineup was better. Cedar point is a crazy top 3 with millennium dragster and sv but after that Magic Mountain more depth and a diverse collection of many different types of coasters
I think it's the best park in the world because of the coasters. You just can't beat the coaster collection.
Only Cedar Point can.
Canobie Coaster That’s arguable.
Parks are much more than just the coasters.
@@DaanBruins And this fact is why Magic Mountain is not in any way in the same category as Cedar Point. Magic Mountain as a full park experience outside of coasters is about the most generic experience to be found and sometimes borderline post apocalypse.
Magic Mountain has deteriorated rapidly since this review. Top 5 coaster lineup in the U.S., but it's not even a top 10 U.S. park anymore on account on the operations, which are now arguably the worst in the Six Flags chain. On a typical off-season weekday when the park is open, over half the coasters will be closed at any given time. On the open coasters, 1 train ops often becomes an issue, resulting in 60-90 minute waits for average coasters like Revolution, and X2 is routinely over 2 hours, when the park itself is not crowded judging by the walkways. I keep taking my kids to MM trying to prove to them it doesn't suck (because it was my home park and used to be awesome!), but at some point I'm forced to agree with them: this park sucks.
Last visit we made was Friday 2/17/23. Outside of the kids area, we counted under 20 families in the whole park. Most of the guests were emo/goth/gangbanger teens. Very few food places open. We spent $0 here, when usually we spend over $100 in-park at any given amusement park. The employees are visibly depressed, the ride dispatches are molasses, no one smiles, and it's just not a pleasant vibe here anymore. It's like the anti-Kings Island. It's possible to make an amusement park so cheap that no one with money to spend wants to come.
Side note: If visiting here from out of town, there is a Homewood Suites across the freeway. Staying in rooms 423, 425, 523, or 525 will give a great view of the park from your room. There are a few others as well, but those rooms for sure. The Embassy Suites has better breakfast, but if you can stomach plastic hash browns, the view at Homewood is worth it.
I had a really good visit earlier this month. The downside is that some rides will always be closed now, but lines were manageable and the lineup is so stacked.
*there are only 19 coasters. otherwise, great video!
Depends if you count Superman as one or two tracks. Thanks!
This is for sure the best Six Flags park for rollercoasters. Honestly, I think their coaster lineup us better than Cedar Point. Other than Cedar point top 4, MagicMountain has a better supporting cast.
I prefer the coaster lineup at Cedar Point, but both lineups are world-class.
cool park.
One of the best.
The following elements on this park's coasters have made me greyout/blackout:
Tatsu's pretzel loop (greyout/blackout)
Riddler's Revenge's upward turn (greyout)
Goliath's helix (greyout/blackout)
X2's first drop (greyout)
Wonder Woman: Flight of Courage's first drop, high turn, and final valley (greyout/blackout)
This park is really a greyout plaza!
Are there any parks that you know are a greyout/blackout plaza?
Kings Dominion has two moments nearby with I305 and Backlot.
ill be there for 7 days!
Enjoy!
I feel like the best time to go to this place is holiday in the park. It’s much cooler and everything is open.
Superman is usually closed for Holiday in the Park, but I'm willing to miss that one. I've also seen Twisted Colossus closed for weekdays around that time though.
Hey can we chat about wildwood or ocean city amusement rides
Sure I'll reply to comments.
@@ryannimmo2329 Lightning Rod at Dollywood and Voyage at Holiday World.
Hey Can you guess what my favorite amusement parks
100% Valencia is HOT during the summer.
Yup, I have a friend who lives by the park.
I think it’s the best six flags park
Totally understand with that coaster lineup!
Can you do my home park discovery kingdom
Already did.
@@CanobieCoaster that was fast
@@CanobieCoaster can you send the link of the video please
@@CanobieCoaster lol check ur review in medusa i commented something there
It's a museum of coasters. Ugly and hot, but the lineup rivals any other. Lots of middle quality rides, but Cedar Point doesn't have 100% world class either. (World record number of aging Arrow coasters!). Looking forward to their second RMC. And it would be nice to lose the comic book stuff.
I don't mind the comic book stuff (granted I'm a superhero nerd). I agree the park has a wide range of coasters- genres and quality.
@@CanobieCoaster CP has five Arrows, SFMM only 3. But I like CP's RMC more than SF's (although I like TC a lot, too). The theming I liked at SFMM was a replica of a Sequoia tree, but it was made out of spray foam and became habitat for wasps (so it was removed).
Yh I also think that six flags fiesta Texas is better I’m not rlly a fan of great adventure so six Flags magic mountain is my 3 fav fav my second fav is six flags over texas I’ve been to all six flags park n almost all cedar pair n I like to enjoy a park but magic mountain I can only enjoy there rides instead of the parks layout
Magic Mountain definitely is a taxing park to get around.
Canobie Coaster very😂!!! I just don’t fine magic mountain all that of a park and some of there coasters like Scream,Batman,Superman, i just dont find it good nd the park foucus to much on roller coaster to where park dont rlly look since it only looks good on holiday in the park
At least a hill you'd be a great exercise
True
I would never go to this park in the summer. I would pass out.
California summer heat is pretty bad, but I would take that dry heat over the humid heat on the bad days on the east coast.
I hate going to amusement parks in the heat
Even tho MM has the most coasters of any park I still prefer Cedar Point. Yes MM has some elite tier Coasters but it’s lineup as a whole doesn’t have the depth Cedar point has
I prefer Cedar Point's lineup too.
This is late but the short answer is: Yes.
The long answer is: Of course
I prefer Cedar Point for coasters, but this is close.
Canobie Coaster fair enough. I personally see this park taking the edge.
They resigned rides and renamed rides.
Six Flags tends to do that a lot.
i live here
Nice!
Six Flags Great Adventure needs to update the area with Bizarro it’s so blah
I rarely go back there.
Canobie Coaster I only go back their to ride Bizarro
I haven't ridden Bizarro in years. I'm either there in the summer mostly riding El Toro or for Holiday in the Park riding the other B&Ms.
Your content is good, I will say that I think it sounds a little too scripted. There is not a lot of personality shining through your videos - there are a lot of breaks when you speak, as if you are reading from a script.
Thanks for the feedback. I've tried filming a few videos without writing the framework down, but the audio has been an unorganized mess with a lot of ums and stumbling over myself.
I get great adventure that park looks fantastic but this places destroys fiesta Texas.
Magic Mountain's coaster lineup is deeper than Fiesta Texas, but I think the best coasters at Fiesta Texas can compete with the best at Magic Mountain. And I love the atmosphere at Fiesta Texas far more. I love both parks, but Fiesta Texas is my personal preference.
Canobie Coaster Iron Rattler could definitely. I feel the gap between Iron Rattler and Wonder Woman and Super Man is extremely large there’s no comparison to me. Magic mountain has twisted Colossus, X2 and Tatsu. I think Tatsu and Iron Rattler are very close in my opinion but super man and Wonder Woman don’t touch Tatsu and Twisted Coulssus. I agree fiesta Texas is a very beautiful park and I think it has a charm to it that other parks don’t.
Iron Rattler and Twisted Colossus are close. And I slightly prefer Wonder Woman to X2. Tatsu and Superman are close for me as well.
Hey are you looking out for my comments to reply
Canobie is one of the few youtubers that responds to all the comments. Do you really expect him to reply in less than 14 minutes?
Yes, I check my comments periodically.
@@ryannimmo2329 No worries.
Hey when you have time reply okay
California needs to hurry up and let them reopen.
I hope they can reopen soon with the measures Six Flags has used at their other parks.
