Well, it IS a great quote. And Caduceus is right-- while pain can last a good while, it isn't what always moves us because we find something to help us, and that something being love. Even before Cad started the actual burn, he was just sternly taking in and analysing what he was saying (because that's what Trent does). But the moment Cad calls him a fool, he freezes. Caleb brought peace to wildemounte? He couldn’t have done it if Trent hadn’t tortured him and let him wander the continent for a few months. Caleb kills Trent and reforms the empire? Congratulations, I was a necessary evil that served the greater good. Trent wasn’t jus evil, he was wrong. All he’s done is hurt people because he believed it made them stronger, and in just 60 second cadeuces shreds his entire worldview to pieces. But he actually put himself at a relative strategic disadvantage here, considering the amount and level of magic it would have taken both to confirm their location via scrying, then to magically transport using either his own or Astrid’s or some other underlings resources, also with relative unfamiliarity with the grove and no knowledge of whether some divine defenses might have been present.
Trent is a spider, as much as he is anything else. He would have been at even greater advantage to draw them in, wait for them to inevitably return to Rexxentrum or Zadash.
Instead, with his wizard hubris he frontloaded as soon as he had eyes on them. It was foolhardy, and I could only guess that he chose to do it because he was piqued.

Here (again) after buying Critical Role's "It's love that makes people" Pride shirt. This is one of my absolute favorite moments of campaign 2.
To me, the best part is how Caduceus MEANS it when he calls this insult "a gift." He is warning Trent, with the best intentions, of what he's missing in his life - this is tough love in the way that only Caduceus can demonstrate. It is truly beautiful and encapsulates his character so well. Taliesin is a genius.
And on a personal level, in this moment Taliesin reminded me that my trauma doesn't define me - it's the love that brought me out of it. And on behalf of everybody who's been abused, this is Taliesin's gift to US of telling off one of the most insidious fictional abusers I've ever come across.

"Pain doesn't make people, it's love that makes people. The pain is inconsequential. It's love that saves them."
My senior quote, I graduate in three months, and couldn't have gotten through all the struggle and strife if it wasn't for the people I surrounded myself with, the people I chose, to show affection towards, to care for, and to lean on when I needed that love reflected back.
Looking back through my schooling years, it's so easy for me to be frustrated with all the ways I was incombatable with the education system, and all the angry tears and unmotivated days. But when I think about why I'm here, why I feel and act and talk and love the way that I do, I'm filled with memories of all those who have cared for me, and all who I have aimed to show that care back.
    Love makes people.
Don't forget to love each other.

Yet there´s no threat to him. He´s certainly powerful but one can´t help but pity him. What did this man go through to develop this mindset of his? No one will mourn the Trent that he became, but damn if one can´t mourn the Trent he could´ve been.

    > May I say, before you go… I think perhaps you are one of the most powerful mages that I’ve ever had the pleasure to be in the presence of, and for this I would offer a gift, which I think it has been a long time since anyone has pointed out to you that you’re a fool.
    > Pain doesn’t make people. It’s love that makes people. The pain is inconsequential. It’s love that saves them. And you would know that, but you have none around you, you said so yourself.
