I don't know, announcing Vex'ahlia as Lady Vex'ahlia - Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt to spite her father and help validate her as a noble is still probably one of my favorite all-time moments in the history of Vox Machina... it just hits so hard every time we revisit it, and precludes so much of their intimacy later on in such a meaningful and respectful way that just jives with me. She earned that title and her legitimacy was supported by someone who had nothing to gain from doing so, other than to stand up for someone they care about. Truly lovely and a jarring juxtaposition to the cold, calculating and vengeful warrior Percy usually presents as - a rare moment of warmth that embetters him for feeling it!

It's definitely very Taliesin to be both eloquent and cutting in all characters not just percy. Even Cad, a soft spoken man of the earth type, who wouldn't have had the education and eloquence that Percy has, and Molly, a lesser educated and amnesiatic travele still had the ability to cut to the heart of the matter and put things into words that almost defies definition

When lighting the candles before the show- Travis- "Doesn't Taliesin just have to snap his fingers to light it?" Sam- "No, he snaps his fingers and one of the audience gets pregnant." Taliesin- "By the way, sorry about that, Travis." ("Search for Grog.")
What I love about that particular joke is that it shows how comfortable the CR cast are with making those sort of jokes with each other and know it's all in jest.
everyone always misses Travis saying 'oh so that's what happened' before Taliesin apologizes. he had a cue, he didn't just go straight to 'i made your child'
It is wild how good an actor Taliesin is, like genuinely to such an uncredited degree. He is nothing like his characters and yet when jumping into Caduceus you cannot even fathom how the same man played Percival. His wit somehow BECOMES his characters in a way that is so special its unreal. And I really really miss Percy, good lord.
Because each character has been a little piece of Taliesin's soul. Percy represented the pain and darkness in his life, Molly his actual fun loving typically jovial personality, Cad reflected his sense of familial bonds, love and compassion and Ashton is just teen aged pissed off Taliesin telling everyone to fuck off :D
Yet I love that with Trent he couldn't shake No Mercy Percy with that savage verbal dress down, "I hope you will find someone who will mourn you when you are gone", maybe out No Mercy-ed him
I feel like every one of Taliesin’s characters would have found some way to get to Trent and all of them would have been amazing. I kinda want to see Percy and Trent’s version of ‘polite’ dinner now. That would be hilarious

What kills me about "life needs things to live" is that, in context, Percy's actually in the middle of trying to articulate a reasonably cogent point (on the lines of "you don't get something from nothing"). He just *sounds* like a concussed fortune cookie for a minute there, which is arguably the most accurate possible depiction of a really intelligent person trying to talk out a large complicated idea AS they're having it, live without a net or a chance to write anything down first.
Especially if you don't think you have the time, audience, or on-hand evidence, to try and go into an in depth explanation of your point. So you're trying to touch on the cogent points where glossing over the deeper stuff. Love how matt says modify memory is one of his favorite spells in the game and a couple years later, Laura Bailey uses it to fuck up his awesome encounter with Asharnai. Such a wonderful blue tiefling.
Matthew Mercer is amazing and I'm sure what he had planned for that character and the events surrounding it would have been equally as awesome as anything he's ever come up with. But man. What Laura did ... I firmly believe that whatever Matt had in store could not have been as impactful or stupendous as what happened in the game. That was the best scene I have ever seen develop in any game I've watched or been a part of. Failing some twist of fate where one of these brilliant nerdy-ass voice actors do better, it will be the defining scene of campaign 2 for me for as long as I might live.
When Percy gave Vex her title, my first thought literally was "Dude, Vex, I think he just married you." Also it absolutely *tickles* me how into it Tal is when Scanlan modifies Percy's memory.
Think about it, you have a certifiable genius whose life long dream is to visit the feywild, fulfills it, but can't remember it, and the least trustworthy member of the party offers to make him remember.... Of course Tal is going to be excited, the amount of potential fuckery his character is going to have to endure based on these new, albeit temporary memories.
When getting Kaylie out of prison: Percy (to Scanlan)- "I know your not used to actually having the means by which to get what you want by just simply asking for it, but you could try just asking for it." Keyleth- "That's the most privileged thing you've ever said." Percy- "That's the most privileged thing I've ever said that you've heard." When tying Grog's body to Trinket: Keyleth- "Percy, help!" Percy- "I am helping. I'm helping run things. Well done."

Niceness is usually in the presence of others to get recognition and is more self-oriented while kindness is doing those things regardless of who may or may not see and is more others-oriented. Tough love is (when done with good intentions in a way that is actually beneficial) as example of being kind to someone by doing/saying/etc what needs to be without necessarily being nice by just doing/saying what others want to make them superficially feel better. Niceness is more people-pleasing while kindness can affect actual, lasting change. Kindness is like niceness but a step further, and is more meaningful.
I think my fav Taliesin line was when Artagan reveals himself to Jester and he's sitting there like, "Fuck off David Bowie! No one wants you here David Bowie! Go back to you're home David Bowie!"
The absolute difference in the temperament of Percy and Cad but they both share that similar veneer of arrogance of knowing better except one is on the basis of cleverness and cunning and the other wisdom and age Beautiful.
I would never have called Cad arrogant. I can see where you get that,and I don't know that you're wrong, but it's a different take than I've heard of his character.

It’s a very interesting layer to caddy as a character and I absolutely love it cuz I know people like that.
Actually, I do have to agree with you when you call Cad arrogant. It’s in the best way possible, but towards the end of the campaign, he was definitely arrogant. I love it about him though. I think it helps define his character change throughout the story.

12:16 gets me so much just because of Taliesin emphasizing by going "With blood." after having Molly spit in Lorenzo's face as his final defiant act before he finally dies from his wounds at Lorenzo's hands. It's essentially giving Lorenzo a defiant "Fuck you".
This is such a weird thing to say, but I hope y'all bear with me. As someone who hung out every now and then with him back when I was in Southern California but wasn't part of his regular social circle, I was always so sad that he didn't seem to get the same kind of recognition in the anime con scene circles which people like Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham did. And now to see how many people appreciate his wit, style, verve, creativity, skills, etcetera... I'm just so happy for him now. I'm also wondering why none of his lines as the DM from the Cthulhu game weren't requested. Probably because the only in-character thing he did which was funny was the speech at the beginning about the cat show and it wouldn't fit the conceit of this episode.
Hopefully we'll get a second video that includes some of those lines, such as "-hear, an unearthly, noise..." *Proceeds to make horrible shrieking tire pavement cat corpse noise.*
There was a moment, sometime early to mid Campaign 1, when Tal makes a delighted comment in the background about something being “a pachinko machine of death!” And he just sounded so pleased
I love the editing on this. The drastic change of Percy's panicking when he "remembers", straight cut to Caduceus' low, relaxed "Hey." (And again with "DIE! DIE!" and "I wish for you to find someone who will mourn you when you are gone.")
It's strange but one of my fave moments of his would almost be a silent quote, only with facial expressions... C1E64, when Matt whispers to Taliesin, and you just see utter grief and heartbreak cross his face. He closes his eyes as though in physical pain. SUCH an incredible moment.

@@WTFisTingispingis As far as I understand it, nice is more about attitude or social etiquette, like being polite or agreeable, which is reactive, while kind is more about committed intentions, like expressing care and empathy, which is proactive. Niceness is usually in the presence of others to get recognition and is more self-oriented while kindness is doing those things regardless of who may or may not see and is more others-oriented. Tough love is (when done with good intentions in a way that is actually beneficial) as example of being kind to someone by doing/saying/etc what needs to be without necessarily being nice by just doing/saying what others want to make them superficially feel better. Niceness is more people-pleasing while kindness can affect actual, lasting change. Kindness is like niceness but a step further, and is more meaningful.
I think my fav Taliesin line was when Artagan reveals himself to Jester and he's sitting there like, "Fuck off David Bowie! No one wants you here David Bowie! Go back to you're home David Bowie!"

I’ve seen Talesin as Caduceus the most, so when I see him as the ruthless Percy, chaotic Mollymauk, and the punk rock Ashton, it always feels weird.

The absolute difference in the temperament of Percy and Cad but they both share that similar veneer of arrogance of knowing better except one is on the basis of cleverness and cunning and the other wisdom and age

@@Ross_mo yeah it’s not arrogance in the same vein as Percy’s arrogance obviously...I honestly would never have seen it if I didn’t watch talks machina regularly and how taliesin describes cad’s thought process and how caddy’s a “project person”. It’s a very interesting layer to caddy as a character and I absolutely love it cuz I know people like that.
I love when people refer to Cad as old because I think he in the firbolg equivalent of, like, his early-to-mid 20's?

Actually, I do have to agree with you when you call Cad arrogant. It’s in the best way possible, but towards the end of the campaign, he was definitely arrogant. I love it about him though. I think it helps define his character change throughout the story.

He is one of the members of the cast of Critical Role, a D&D group comprised of voice actors who got together to play D&D for fun and wound up transitioning their home game to a livestream. They are the rest of the cast.
I love the ideas that, if all of taliesin’s characters were to meet, it’d probably end up with Caduceus, Molly and Ashton vibing while Percy sat in a corner. The man has serious range.

This is such a weird thing to say, but I hope y'all bear with me. As someone who hung out every now and then with him back when I was in Southern California but wasn't part of his regular social circle, I was always so sad that he didn't seem to get the same kind of recognition in the anime con scene circles which people like Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham did. And now to see how many people appreciate his wit, style, verve, creativity, skills, etcetera... I'm just so happy for him now. I'm also wondering why none of his lines as the DM from the Cthulhu game weren't requested. Probably because the only in-character thing he did which was funny was the speech at the beginning about the cat show and it wouldn't fit the conceit of this episode.
I really like him too! He deserves more credit

There was a moment, sometime early to mid Campaign 1, when Tal makes a delighted comment in the background about something being “a pachinko machine of death!” And he just sounded so pleased
I love the editing on this. The drastic change of Percy's panicking when he "remembers", straight cut to Caduceus' low, relaxed "Hey." (And again with "DIE! DIE!" and "I wish for you to find someone who will mourn you when you are gone.")
It's strange but one of my fave moments of his would almost be a silent quote, only with facial expressions... C1E64, when Matt whispers to Taliesin, and you just see utter grief and heartbreak cross his face. He closes his eyes as though in physical pain. SUCH an incredible moment.

He commented on how the metaphor was broken Because the fact that the vampires are dangerous and killing people, so in which in that case most people would totally be for setting them on fire.
