  • La Ventanilla, Oaxaca. Crocodile wildlife habitat at the ventanilla lagoon. Ines Miller travel adventure.
It received its name due to the natural rock formation on the East end of the beach.
Wild, nature lagoon meets the Pacific Ocean. There are approximately 200 Zapotec families living and guarding this territory. They transport around the lagoon with small pontoons/ balsam boats and a paddle, no motorboats are used to prevent the contamination of their own food supply.
Once you are inside the lagoon, you no longer are in the top of the food pyramid chain. This incredible mature mangroves' region is filled with crocodiles, which are not shy about coming toward the boards to find out what is on them. Animals such dogs, pigs and other small wildlife are often food to this ancestral reptilians, coming toward them by dozens once one falls in the river; if a human falls from the boat the same faith will await.
Strongly recommended visiting with a native tour guide. There are plenty of tragic stories here when foreigners adventure with foreigners” pretending to know the area. Yes, besides the crocodiles there are” water dogs” as they called them here, also known as otters which are streamed aggressive.
Do not bring the water there! There are plenty of coconuts to drink from instead and food for sale.
    Things to bring:
    Hat
    Camara
    Insect repellent
    Comfortable shoes to walk
    Money for souvenirs, of course.
An open mind to observe nature at its best.
