How to Submit Coins to PCGS for Grading

  • In this video I talk about how to submit modern bullion coins to PCGS for grading. In regard to PCGS vs NGS I prefer pcgs because they have been around longer. The pcgs coin grading service can increase the value of your bullion coins. The pcgs grading process includes several individuals looking at your coins to determine a grade. The pcgs price guide can help you decide if the grading process is a good idea or not. The pcgs grading cost is about $40-$60 per coin depending on what you want done. my PCGS submission last year was easy to do so I show the process this year. My pcgs coin grading results so far have not been great but I hope to get better grades this year. pcgs grading is not for everyone, but I show the whole process in this video. Last year I did a pcgs coin grading unboxing and I will do the same this year to show my pcgs grading results. I have the gold pcgs membership. This video shows all of the pcgs submission instructions for the current online webpage.

The open or not question is also important for the next buyer of an ungraded coin if he wants to grade it. If a buyer is hoping for an MS70 he wants it in brown box unopened - because if it is opened the seller may have inspected it and sold it because in part it is flawed. There’s a treasure hunt aspect to buying unopened boxes that raises the price of the coin.
But if you are keeping or grading yourself, different situation. Congrats on your v75 silver.

I know the NGC and PCGS service, both are excellent for American currencies. Sometimes grid 1 or 2 points up or down. But I confess that foreign currencies are too flawed for authentication. There is a lack of specialized people in this area. I think they should really only classify American currencies. I've seen every encapsulation of Roman coins that make your hair stand on end, there are pieces that you can't tell if they are fake or real due to so much wear. But they simply encapsulate because it is an advantageous market. I am an ANA Member myself, and really in my opinion I don't find it interesting to have a coin sealed in an acrylic box, and I can't touch it and feel the whole story behind the coin in my hands. Coins have always been collected in this way, but suddenly from 3 decades, these firms started to emerge, in fact vision to really profit. I still consider and use the classic way to collect coins.

I just ordered a couple of the 2021 SAE Proofs and I'll probably sell one eventually. I notice there's quite a substantial resale difference between the graded SAE's, but there were over 300K of these produced, so is it a sucker's bet to spend the dough for grading, or is it the good investment? I'm not a member nor a serious collector, but I wanted to grab a couple of these, as it's the last year - and they sold out so fast......

I also use PCGS. From what I was told when I started sending expensive coins thru USPS is to only use registered mail even though its expensive. They do not offer insurance on money of any kind and the insurance you pay for will not be payed out unless its registered mail. You gotta read fine print. I guess you could lie about what you sent but I dont risk it. With registered mail every postal person that your package gets handed off to will have to sign for it so there is a trail.

Is a voucher only good per coin ? Or can a voucher be used for 1 submission? For example, if I send 10 x 2020 proof eagles in one submission, is this a 1 voucher usage ? I can’t seem to find this info on the pcgs website.

Do I have to become a member to send it out to them because from the looks of it the voucher dose nothing for cost or dose is cut sum cost ????

Any purpose in the gold shied?
I had someone send in a coin for me for $60 and then pgcs charged my card $70.
So it seems it would have been cheaper should I have sent it in myself.
Thanks to you that's what I'll be doing with my 2nd coin.
I know the guy who sent it in for me had it with ahold shield as he said it's included in the voucher for free.
So I would select for example the Gold membership for $149 and then the 4 vouchers will be available for the very first coin? Or only for the coin proceeding this one?
You were super clear. Thanks for explaining this all.
As well what's all those extra stuff I saw you had meantioned in the notes of the website for extra stuff?
I have the same coin you're talking about the silver V75 which I want graded to flip on eBay or a local buyer.
Would want the most value of it. But not buying anything that's not needed for resale.
Thanks again for your amazing channel.

I wanted to also know if I send a coin in and I figured a grade and price of the coin and pay for that. But when they are grading the coin to give it a higher grade automatically if it is a higher grade which means the coin is worth more than I put on the form. Will they grade it higher automatically and then when they charge my account will they go ahead and charge the higher fee? Or will they only grade it up to the grade and value I paid for on the form? I have watched a few of these videos and no one has address this question. I want the highest grade and value I can get but will they do that if I did not pay for that on the form

Can you specify to have the COA encapsulated ONLY if it's signed? The new peace dollars had a very small percentage of the COA's signed, in which case having it encapsulated would make sense, but if it's not signed, it would be money thrown away.

My coin came in yesterday. I was thinking about getting it graded but have been seeing people with milk spots and rim dings on their coins, along with other issues. I'm not to mention, I only have 7 days left in my membership with PCGS. Would it be wise to open it and check the coin?

One note for the USPS insurance. USPS policy stated it won't pay lost or damage insurance for coins that was not shipped under regiester mail.

@@SilverDragons47 oh, no. I got my insurance package lost few times with USPS. when u go through the claim , they want you to provide the receipt of item showing the description of item you purchased, date, etc... so better to do it their way, if in case the package is lost and they wont insurance your coins becuz you did not send under registered mail and they wont refund the insurance fee u paid for. On the other hand, it is usually the people who work at usps warehouse stole those packages, sometime they aim for high insuranced package. my package was stolen at destination usps store, that package was never leave destination usps store for delivery. The good thing about PCGS they uses PO box, which it arrive at destination usps store for pick up. maybe it could be safer. So my recombination is to send package in envelope like package , like the flate rated envelope and fill in with cardboard, make it feel like document papers, so people are less interested in those envelope/document paper like packages. those thieves are more interested on bigger packages and they can easily tell whats in there buy shaking and feeling throug the packages.

2 questions. What do you actually ship the coins in? Can I ship them in a plastic flip or like one the cardboard stapled 2x2? And if you happen to use cash do you literally just put the cash in with the coins when you send them?

Wow. I didn’t know about what made something a “First strike.” I missed out on that. I was going to get my 2021 American eagle designer set graded, and it’s way too late for that. How much does it really hinder the value?

What does it take to get the First day of issue FDOI on such a coin? Or better what's the difference between that and the First strike?
Why would you not go for the FS? Or FD?
As well what does the voucher cover?
And can I send a 2700$ Coin in? Or they won't grade coins over 2500?
