@@brandonconnelly6562You do realize that if Jags HAD stayed in Pittsburgh, the Pens would’ve played well enough that they never would have been able to draft Sid the Kid, Malkin, that goalie. The ‘99-‘00 season was devastating for Jags as far as physical injuries went and what it did to his spirit. You could see the change in him during that ‘00-‘01 season. That’s why he kept asking to be traded. He knew the Pens couldn’t afford to pay his salary, especially considering where he was mentally. And if you’ll recall, during his time in DC he only showed flashes of his old self. It took returning to NY following a lockout year playing in Omsk before Jags really returned to the player he was before - and he almost won the scoring title in ‘05-‘06 too. I’ll never forgive the NHL for what they did to him during the ‘99-‘00 season because the Hockey News noted that, at the midpoint of the season he was on pace to blow away his old career highs: I think the numbers were like 70-80+ goals, 180+ points, I remember they said if he won the scoring race, he was so far ahead of the guy in 2nd place, it would’ve been the largest margin of victory since 99 had won during ‘86-‘87. Instead they allowed his opponents free reign to injure him to the point he missed much of the second half of the season entirely. And the Pens coach that season, Herb Brooks (they’d fired Kevin Constantine) said quite rightly that the NBA would NEVER have allowed Michael Jordan to be treated the way the NHL let Jags opponents get away with cheap shots on him (one of which derailed his season and put him in the hospital) the NHL fined Brooks $30,000 for speaking out in Jags defense

Phillips skated on the third line yesterday with Lars Eller and Valtteri Puustinen in his first practice with the team!! Also got some looks on PP2 so it seems they will give him a good shot in the bottom six. Other waiver pickups this season have stayed at the NHL level most of the season so he should get a pretty good look here down the stretch. (Especially if he steps up and takes this opportunity to show his strengths).. Thanks for watching!!

I would like to apologize to Jagr for the shabby way the Penguins treated him for much of his career. He could have spent most if not all of it in the Burgh had the franchise not been so criminally mismanaged. To give him away for nothing was a kick in the teeth for him and Penguins fans everywhere. (Kris Beech? Really?) And to not make it his worthwhile to return before the 2011-12 season was grossly ungrateful, not to mention just plain dumb. The team could have made a deep postseason run with him that season and the next few to come. Now that the team sucks, the management users decided to retire his number, create a needed buzz and sell some tickets and merch. I love when this franchise fails. It deserves everything it gets, and the hockey gods have been happy to oblige.
