There is nothing to stop people from stealing your mail from a mailbox set out on the street, just as there is nothing to stop people from stealing your Amazon packages right from the porch in front of your door. Both are against the law, but little seems to stop those who are intent on doing it. It also strikes me that Josie is perhaps the best dressed woman on the street in Franklin or in Nashville. Gives me a chuckle.
Yes, it’s a federal offense. Up to 5 years in jail to steal mail or packages. A lot of people have security cameras on their house now so they’re more likely to be caught.

When we lived in West Virginia, we also had the same game spirit. People loved to support their friends that played sports. They also loved to go to even high school football games. Even churches would sometimes have a sign out front supporting the local football team. Our town would have a ginormous tailgate party in the parking lot on a certain day every year and every one would watch the high school game. Also, my husband and I attended our church Bible study where we would also watch the football game.

Messing with someone’s mail in the US is a federal offense…A big no no. We call them “mail boxes”here❤…Packages typically are left at the front door and those can get stolen😕. Many people use security cameras to monitor their front porches.

Mail fraud is a federal offense, but theft is usually a misdemeanor. The consequences vary from state to state, but usually involve fines and jail time. When packages are taken from your front door or porch the thieves are some times called “porch pirates.” Love the intro too! 🎄❤
This was such a big treat for me! We used to live in Nashville, the Cool Springs area, but every where you and your Charlie went we have been! HA! We were there at the same time visiting our friends!! So glad you enjoyed Tennessee, we would have loved to retire there but alas our Son lives in Georgia so we are here. (But love it here too.) It is fun to see you both walking around a town that I am familiar with and seeing familiar ground on your vlogs! I never thought about someone taking my mail out of my mailbox, never had an issue with it! However we do have "porch pirates" that can steal packages off of the porch. It's called a "porch pirate" when someone steals packages. It depends on the area you live if you need a locked mailbox or not. In the city of Chicago, everything is locked up. In rural places the door is unlocked and the mail person pops it right in the house. Suburbs is somewhere in between.
It is a Federal offense if you tamper with mail. That would mean jail time for sure. It happens but mostly with boxes that are delivered and left on the porches. I love your Vlogmas intro it is the best I have seen on CZcams. I thoroughly enjoy your Vlogs.

There’s nothing to stop people from stealing your mail (post). But, if you’re in a small town, it usually doesn’t happen! At my parents place, there’s more risk of the snow plow knocking over the mail box than there is theft 😂

Oh there’s something so magical about your Vlogmas series! 🎉🎄 every morning now, whilst I enjoy my morning coffee I put you on the tv and really enjoy your videos exploring amazing Nashville. My husband and I visited back in 2018 and loved it so much. We actually went there to watch The Arctic Monkeys live. We stayed in The Bobby hotel (fabulous!) and loved Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint!

The next time you should visit the Smokey Mountains which are gorgeous. Stay in a cabin in the mountains, shopping and seeing the natural sites are amazing. This is by far the prime sites in Tennessee.

We have a lot of gulches in the Appalachians. A gulch is a long narrow and often very steep ravine/mountain pass with a river/creek/waterway meandering in the middle. Dry Gulch Junction is popular near where I live.

This has been such a fun series!!! I’m so glad you checked out Reese Witherspoons shop. I have only been able to see stuff on line from her but have gotten 2 of her dresses . They are very good quality and classic.
People ask about the post boxes all the time. People just don’t steal our mail . I mean there are always jerks in every city. But, on the whole … people just leave stuff alone. Same with stuff in the back of a truck . Most of the time, it’s just tools, or something like that. People just leave it alone.

It's not really a problem in most places because it's a federal offense with stiff penalties.

Hi Josie, your Vlogmas videos of Tennessee have been beautiful! We have traveled there many times and it is always amazing. The Parthenon in Nashville was very fascinating and highly recommend it. We live in Texas, and if you want real Tex-Mex and Texas BBQ you should come visit Texas! Here in Houston there's The Space Center and the Austin area (Texas Hill Country) has great live music, shops, and hot springs. Also the Tennessee Titans used to be the Houston Oilers. It took Houston a while to get over them leaving. Always love your videos and look forward to Vlogmas in the Cotswolds!

Never had mail stolen. Deliveries come straight to the inside front porch. Guess it depends where you live but for the most part we don’t have problems with mail theifs☺️

Love watching you Josie! You are wonderful and do such a lovely job! Re: mail in US. It’s a federal crime to open a mailbox or mail that’s not yours. That said, these days mail thefts have been on the rise, as has all crime, due to new crazy policies. Getting one’s mail stolen is the least of our concerns anymore, sadly! (I live in Seattle).
What policies? Not based on actual data. Many Americans are convinced crime is on the rise. The local news may be responsible for convincing Americans that violent crime is more common than it really is.
@Moira: I don’t have cable and don’t watch local news. This is what we are experiencing in our neighborhood. I won’t detail it here as its violent and disturbing. Seattle’s AG is not prosecuting criminals. As far as policies, for example, one is allowed to steal up to $900 without arrest and consequences. We see people walk out of our grocery store with goods all the time.

We live in rural North Texas. Very little or no worries over mail theft. I guess we grew up knowing it’s a big NO! Mostly now we get junk mail.

Just an American here who has been giggling away at all your America comments! I never considered the possibility of things getting stolen from mailboxes as that has never been a concern- however I have always been concerned about my mailbox being knocked over from cars or even teenagers who enjoy practicing their baseball swings on mailboxes(yes, this is a thing)!
Also to comment on the sports signs- people do have signs even for small children in sports. We love cheering on anyone and everyone with a sign or flag!
