I usually go by the golden rule of Grit. If he is unbanned on a certain map he propably sucks. Also I'm glad you cover the harder or more special COs like Sami and Grit first. I would be very interested in how to play Sonja optimally.
21:50 with regards to vision when you were talking about Grit, you can see it’s Poland’s turn and his map vision is almost the whole map. When you go back to your turn your vision looks like most of the map is foggy in comparison.
One of my favourite observations about Grit and Max was realising that both of them prefer to build teh specialised and super-pricey units that the other one boosts. Grit is more likely to build Bombers, and Max is more likely to build Battleships, because both fill a niche in their army unsupported by more mainstay, affordable choices. Grit's Arties and Max's Tanks and B Copters are so good, it's redundant to waste money on Rockets, MDs and Neos too much.

It makes sense on every level but one: that the thundering alien lord of evil likes little dinky trucks going pew-pew. Everything else lines up: - Rockets and Missiles represent long-range bombardment, Sturm's bag (Meteor Strike) - Sturm the mechanical evil robot favouring high-precision machinery - Sturm's defensive boosts creating a reliable screen for these potent but fragile units - Sturm's offense penalty mattering less on units with already god-like offense, especially per cost - Sturm being essentially Advance War's tyres specialist in disguise favouring these three units (edit: typos)
Great video! Id say the only Fog opponent that Grit likes would be Sasha. Ive seen many Sturm's spamming recon's-tank just being able to shut down the artis before they are placed anywhere good enough to take several shots. Sturm's mobility just feels like a perfect counter to Grit. His extra defense also deminishes the firepower of indirects and make direct impossible to use for Grit.
Imagine if Grit was allowed in STD? 👀 Honestly tho, he kinda could on certain maps at T1, open mixed base maps (Veinglor, EoE) or even Base Light maps (Wharfs, Dubious Procession).
Tier 1 is still really unbalanced, a lot of Tier 1s are super powerful but directly counter each other which is not great. Bargain bin COs aren't crazy but because they are so weak the tier is not full of binary matchups.
Grit doesn't like to have multiple frontline as not only it spread it's artillery but usually you want at least 1 tank per frontline as grit (more for other co) and mixed base forced grit to build much more tank than normal map. grit can protect it's area with 2 base but its solo base can easily be base locked
Step 1: Build missiles to assert dominance
Step 2: Piperunner
Step 3: Megatank
Step 4: Artillery (not because you need, but because you can)
Step 5: If an Port is avaible, build a carrier to force your opponent to surrender before your mighty 9-range behemoths
There's something incredible about how a Sturm Rocket does better than a Grit Artillery.
