  • J.A.P. V8 Motorcycle.
In the very early years of the motorcycle, manufacturers, racers, and inventive blokes toyed with dimensions, configurations, and various forms of combustion. A conundrum at the time would have been that of engine capacity and the number of cylinders… how big could you reasonably go on a motorcycle without the whole thing collapsing to the ground?
It did not take long before mechanical monsters started to surface. In 1906, an innovator name Glen Curtiss designed his first V-8 engine in response to several requests from aeronautical experimenters. Curtiss was a curious kind, and it was only natural for him to see how fast he could move on a motorcycle fitted with his newfangled 40hp V-8. Curtiss instructed his team to develop a frame capable of supporting the weight of his engine, and then took it to the Florida Speed Carnival at Ormond Beach in 1907, where he recorded an incredible speed of 136 mph during his run and quickly earned the title “the fastest man on Earth.”
Fast forward over 100 years, and to a modern and talented engineer, Pavel Malaník, who has created a period V-8 beast that is synonymous of the experimental bikes of the early years. At the heart of the machine is a replica of a J.A.Prestwich aero V-8. The majority of parts have been home-made by Pavel, who is a toolmaker by trade.
Thanks and credit to Pavel Malaník for the video of this incredible machine.
