- Remember the idea that Destiny was supposed to expand into multimedia with movies or shows? What happened to that? Is it even still possible?

I feel like the 'variety hour' style of destiny's lore would lend itself far better to a 'Tales from Destiny' anthology show in the style of Animatrix, love death and robots, etc. So far the game is far better at writing small compelling side stories than a big overarching plot.
I would kill for a love death robots style destiny show
Problem is what is the market for such a concept other than the Destiny community which is still pretty small? It’s also kind of backwards- like making a Dunk and Egg series before Game of Thrones.
the way veteran players are dropping off from the game but still having an investment in the lore and story, i could definitely see a show doing well. A way of staying engaged with the universe without being tied into the never-ending grind of the game.
Never ending pickpocketing
@ThomasTheTankEngine22 willingly buying a product and not liking it isn't the same a pickpocketing.
Byf pointed this out during season of the worthy.
Player numbers crashed hard, he expected his video count to do the same, but it didnt, and he came to the same conclusion
I have not played (or purchased) destiny since the D2 moon expansion, and I had been playing since taken king). I considered coming back for beyond light, but decided against it. It definitely improved life and was a good decision. But I still read news articles and watch lore videos because I really like the lord and the story. I will most likely never come back to destiny, but would absolutely watch a show.
@@TriCobaltGmgpoor mylien on the other hand…
A Destiny show in the form of an anthology series, each episode following a different story and character would go so hard.
That's what i've been sayin'! Between the in-game and the lore, destiny was sort of an anthology when I got into it. It's absolutely the way to draw people into a world
A destiny tv show following the origins of Drifter wpuld be fantastic.
A Destiny show set during the Warlord era would be dope regardless of how well or poorly the game is doing. If it's animated get either WIT Studio (AOT S1-3, Vinland Saga S1) or Trigger (Edgerunners, Star Wars Visions) to make it and you're basically printing money.
If there was someone supervising a Destiny show, it would probably be Luke Smith. He has been working on the game since the beginning afaik
Byf. Byf is the correct answer for a supervisor of a show to make sure it's lore accurate
The show would have been a banger if Lance Riddick was still around and the original Ikora, Gina Torres was involved.
Wait did Ikora's actress change?
@@mcleary9615 yes, I believe Gina was done being ikora for Witch Queen or Lightfall. Gina did a character for Immortals of Aveum
I was excited for the Sony acquisition for the possibility of a show off the bat. Destiny would make such an amazing animated series.
They should make an animated show that goes in depth on the first collapse and like the dark ages and stuff like that and the show can be somewhat of a prequel to destiny the game
My dream destiny shows would be either an Animated movie/short about the battle of 6 fronts (give me the whole Pigeon and Phoenix lore book tbh) or a live action mini series about Shin Malphur.
If bungie paid attention to the fallout numbers they could learn from what a good series can do.
Tbh Destiny’s lore has always been more interesting than its actual characters as seen in-game.
Bungie has this extreme talent of writing compelling off-screen ideas that come off as very bland and boring in-game.
I’m not convinced a destiny show would do well. Why would anyone outside of Destiny fans care about… Ikora…. Or Devrim… or Zavala.
Destiny players think they’re great characters because of their experiences with them in-game… outside of the subjective, thousand hour game experience: destiny is full of dull-as-hell characters that couldn’t support a show
Bungie messed around with anime back in the day with their old franchise ONI so it's in their wheelhouse. Although I imagine no one from those days are still left working at Bungie.
After 10 years.. and without watching the whole video yet.. probably not.
But it should.
Then again, a lot of things SHOULD happen in destiny but they just dont
love the video, nice that you feature the pupper in the background Paul.
Destiny 2 couldnt even get a collab with a mobile game, how they gonna sign a TV show 😢
Nah it’ll happen, trust me
What're you talking about?
@@gooeymon8146 the mobile game will be announced in the next year trust
@@gooeymon8146 Arknights, a mobile game made by a massive Destiny 2 fan, announced a Destiny 2 collab a year ago, but it still hasn't even showed up to this day
it has tho? Arknight collab was announced a year ago
I dont know about Destiny but the new fallout show on amazon is phenomenal so far
I didn’t know the shiny drop rate was so low. I played last week, got Shax to rank 14, and ended up with 12 shiny weapons. I felt like they were fairly common but maybe that’s just my rng
brother how tf
I would love a Golden Age/ Dark Age series where they jump back and forth between the height of humanity vs the lows of humanity. Showing a cause and effect. Booming technology vs post apocalyptic survival with superheros and villains.
I was all for it in the past. But since the direction they went with the witness I have just fell out of love with the story.
Lightfall really put the nail in the coffin. Playing something with a story that was clearly made up on the spot to fit into an already existing narrative kind of threw my passion for the story into a bonfire.
I still play it, and I love the update, but man do I miss the DARKNESS being a truly scary thought, the sinister lore behind stasis, and the very grim atmosphere the game had. It went from Diablo 2 to Diablo 3 in my opinion.
Also, the neon colors just ruin my immersion, I liked the old vex stuff
A rare edited PT video today!
It’s possible, just look at Arcane and how well it did for League of Legends. And that game has been going on for 12 before Acabe was released. I think it’s possible for them to release a show.
I love reading your articles Paul. It's nice to see a real gamer that knows what they're talking about producing material about the games we play. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more content posted here.
Honest I feel like destiny would fit better as anime like how cyberpunk did it, sure they won’t get the same massive audience that normal live action shows do. But considering all the over the top stuff u can do in destiny (supers, exotic, the lore itself etc, it would probably be better and potentially cheaper to go that route
Im still tryin to farm the dang sword rocket sniper and scout elims
And the sword and heavy grenade
As soon as i was able i stopped those mid progress to try and get the handcannon and breech loader
Any tips for a fast farm i was thinking onslaught 10 wave
Destiny's universe has so much potential it boggles my mind we haven't already seen some kind of adaptation. It could stand alongside franchises like Warhammer, DnD and Star Wars with how deep it's lore goes. The series definitely deserves better than what Bungie's executives seem to be giving. I'm still hoping Sony executives step in and refocus the studio.
It would work: if they do it like several different lore stories. Like the first season is of the hive gods oryx xivu and Savathun backstory, another season could be on dredgen yor and his backstory then instrofucing shin
My theory is that if they've been working on Destiny 3 (Payback) they may have "ported" things in development there across to D2.
Given it was originally stated there were no new subclasses or races, only new supers and a few new troop types for Final Shape, porting existing (even not fully formed) content just seems to fit the timeline better (3-6 months approximately)
Just a thought :)
Definitely an anime for the lore is needed
Yea because that could go on for hundreds of eps... I used to want live action but they'd never be able to pull that off without a massive budget
I think if you did a prequel with the Thorn/Last Word story, you could do that with a decent budget and do it live action. You'd have to show fallen but no other races and the golden gun/Thorn effect would be do-able?
I've always thought the jaren ward/ shin malphur story could be a great live action movie/show. Basically just a space western
Only way a live action show would work imo is if it took place in the dark ages or directly after the collapse. An animated show (something similar to halo legends) would be good to explore things like the witness, it’s disciples, the hive, fallen and the whirlwind, drifters adventures, Osiris in the infinite forest. Something like an anthology series.
I seriously hope it still happens. Its popped up in my head from time to time and Im patiently waiting to hear anything about it
I mean maybe they are waiting to use the show either as a bridge between d2 and d3 or generally to get people hyped for d3 and potentially get more new players interested in the sequel
I always thought the Thorn lore would make an amazing mini series
Bungie should go the way of Castlevania, Ark,Dragon Age, and Dragon's Dogma route. Them some good animated shows.
I hope it gets a show! PlayStation has to be looking into this
If it were to launch between a destiny 2 and 3 omg the hype 🙌
"Lil horse" (distant cheering) "ʸᵃʸ ʷᵒᵒʰᵒᵒ"
Problem I see is after Final Shape and the end of the Light and Dark Saga, what story is left to tell? Fallout has the ability to tell stories in a universe that has diversity in vaults and locations to tell unique stories. I can’t see how Destiny could have something after Final Shape. They might be able to go back to when the Traveler appeared and go from there. Tell stories in the middle somewhere. I think their opportunity to do something is slowly vanishing.
Some books like how they did for Halo back in the day would be nice. Byf for voice over for the audio book :)
I personally would be okay with a show done in the style and quality of the cutscenes in destiny 2
Leaked info says the show was binned pre- Sony acquisition. It never got past a script.
You forgot Ubisofts Captain Laserhawk show on Netflix
Honestly I hope it doesn’t happen because given the way they even just executed dialogue in game just shows they would talk like they were speaking to toddlers. If I could skip every cutscene and jump into every raid each DLC I would. Maybe TFS will be better writing but my god I feel like I’m watching a straight to DVD bionicle movie and somehow this is rated T
I would love to see an animated or live action show about the collapse of the golden age.
i would love a movie about the arrival of the traveler, the golden age and end the movie with the collapse
I couldn't imagine a good Destiny TV show especially given the state of the storytelling in D1 and D2. It would just be another Halo....
A Destiny live action show made by Apple or Amazon could be the new Game of Thrones-like event but in space, with aliens e a lot of powers! Just saying....imagine the spin-offs too!
thats a god damn hot take if I ever heard one lol
It's sort of weird to get news about what's not happening... 🤔
I doubt bungie hasn't been seeing the massive success of video game adaptations and not seeing the potential it has in onboarding players.
Bungie was hiring many related to animation who have worked on things like Arcane and League of Legends animated shorts. I have a really hard time seeing them just sitting around twiddling their thumbs unless they all got laid off.
I’m not a fan of anime at all, I’d want something live action.
I think Stargate would be a good model of how to do a Destiny TV show. Launch with a movie first, have the show featuring a fireteam of Guardians going around the solar system on various missions using the games as an outline for the storyline.
A live action show about the faction wars would go hard
Basically making D1 Vanilla into a movie verbatim would work 🤔
Ever wonder where Chris Barret is and why he moved out of Washington State? He has not been director of Marathon for almost a year… things that make you go hmmmm.
An anthology series with every new ep being a different set of characters and their story would be awesome, but I’d also be happy with a show focusing on a squad of newly resurrected guardians
Doesn't Bungie have a history of revealing all of the cool stuff way too late? Take the recent reveals for instance, or the blue balls we had during Worthy and in the lead-up to the Lightfall reveals. I'm not saying it's likely, but I can imagine them dropping a bunch of stuff they've been secretly cooking for years once the Final Shape raid boss has been beaten like they've alluded to. More than nothing (it's not D3 either) is all I expect but I still haven't seen an indication that this game won't be dead by the end of the expansion-year.
Who would've know, following the source material is a great idea😃
Hey, cool animated intro my guy
The show needs to be animated and the movies needs to be live action.
Watching the Fallout show has made me want to play Fallout and I'm not even a Fallout fan!
The suits at Bungie need to think of the return on investment they could get from a successful show
Onky way destiny live action is working is either a series following Clovis bray prior to the collapse, and then the finale is the arrival of the Black Fleet, or a show following the Warlords.
Tuning in for 12 pack a day Paul.
i can’t wait for a destiny show where i can watch a guardian fly back and forth between two social spaces in order to talk to someone in person and then on a holoprojector
I think it’s because they’ve got their priorities on getting the game strong again
I could see an anime being entertaining
If they weren't trying to develop multiple games simultaneously and didn't have Lightfall blow up in their faces I think the show would still be alive, but now I think it's been shelved indefinitely if not killed outright.
I feel not enough that anime is probably not a bad avenue for destiny show tbh . A lot more people who are passionate about art in animation than Hollywood
It's still possible. If they have an idea of how to end this saga of light and dark we could def have a show. With Sony they could get a great anime team. Anime destiny could start with the flower game event very vaguely to intro( depending on if they make it real and what they retcon) and we start with the Hive sisters. The first episodes we get to know they hive and witness the rebirth of the 3. We get a gauge of their power and such.
Golden age and then forward. Meet the heroes and legends before they're huge. Dude the battles would be sick af. I know most of the community would watch. Bungie just needs the vision and presentation.
Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy have been counting all that money.
The time for a tv show was a few years ago
I want a Marathon show similar to a show like Expanse!
Pipe dream:
Forget a show, or an anime series of any kind. Let go of a streaming related thing. let’s give it to Peter Jackson and let him make a series of movies out of Destiny ! like he did the Lord of the rings series that would be epic !!
The fact that bungie has pumped out all of this content since the layoffs makes players even more angry because they wonder why they said they weren’t able to do precisely that for so many years.
I would rather a live action like the og trailers
The only way a Destiny show could work would be to focus on stories prior to events of Destiny 1. The most interesting aspects of the universe happen decades prior to you starting up the game.
What does Luke Smith even do? He was supposed to be developing all of this media. We have NOTHING! Corporate zombies like him really make me feel tired.
The TV show has to be animated.
This is easy. You take Byf for script and Cross for action scenes and your golden 😅.
I think a well-produced Destiny show would breathe new life into the game, drumming up hype and interest for new players. If it was done well. Given how cringe the Red War campaign was, and Luke Smith's involvement, i wouldn't want him anywhere near this hypothetical project. Robert Brookes, Hazel Monforton, any of the other folks on the narrative team, any of them would do a fantastic job. Maybe beg Seth Dickinson to consult for it?
Wow farm sunsetted weapons so much fun why we have not too pay for every weapon like gallahorn
I think it's silly to assume that the show and the game would share resources or that money allocated for Bungie by Sony would be taken from the game and given to the show. That's not how these things work. It's also very unlikely that anyone involved in the game outside of a narrative capacity would be taken away from the game to work on the show.
At Destiny's height a show might have been viable, but I doubt anyone is considering it now with how unhappy Sony is with Bungie's financial performance.
They’re unhappy with Bungie, but they see Destiny as something truly incredible
I actually think a movie based on Destiny 1 would do better. Stick to the basics of the plot but now with professionally written dialogue. Vault & be prepared to retcon any lore tied to Destiny 2. Better to ignore 2 altogether and if the movie does well, Sony can find a competent studio to make Destiny 3. Mostly using Destiny 2 as a "what not to do" for 3.
Since Luke Smith was incharge of it expect the worst.
Rise of Iron as an animated series would have been good. Learn more of the ironlords and siva.
Somehow, Luke Smith has returned.
Unlikely?
Animation is better. But do not think that animation is cheap. It's not. But animation does allow for far better action, fantasy, battles etc. Clone Wars shows animation allows you to do far more.
It’ll never happen but I will always pray
Get MyNameIsByf to produce the show
It better
If they’re doing a show they better get Byf on board lol
PLEASE I need a live action of Shin Malphur and Dredgen Yor in an old fashioned western. PLEASE 😭
I think I'd rather they pour more resources into the game. A show would be neat, but I want the game to be the best version o itself before we really start looking at other media.
You do know they are under the Sony umbrella, not just in games, right?
@@Augors OK? Put more money into making the game better first.
this isn't really the explaination WHY the production isn't going on track. Halo is a wonderful example of over 4 different big attempts to start development and then fail, even down to the point, Hellboy 2 commentary track, Del Toro mentions the Halo film development but slides into what they learned from it to make a costume for another character. It's very simple with someone who can KICK START the production, and often times it can be a crazy producer who just forces everything to the finish line. And then there's an off time, and you get a Mario movie that's a success but no game to go along with it.
It does seem to be a radical different world than lets say 20 years ago when there's a rumor of a John Woo Metroid movie. And there's the time frame of tv serialization, platforms that are hungry for anything, and audience eager to watch anything. BUT we are also in a world were there are films not even made for the audience who loves the game, but instead people who just want to see something kinda like a game cinematic. And that's where production design of something like Uncharted just pushes everything out, like a movie for your mom to watch instead of playing the game on easy.
There's also the new world where, they can release content without anyone leaking ANYTHING! So I don't know, we may see it 7 years later, or maybe dead. I mean there hasn't been a Twisted Metal game since 2012.... because that's how desperate the industry is for ANYTHING!
A Destiny show about a guy on the construction crew that's repairing the old tower. There are constant delays and union drama. Progress is going nowhere and it turns out to be a huge glimmer scam.
Two thirds of the best players in d2 are LITERALLY insane. I have more respect for insects than the top tier player base. Come in with a crazy high meta dps load out, and get attacked for it. Bottom line, these individuals need a puppy.
All I ask from a Destiny show is that it be animated and NOT live-action.
I'm on a copium overdose and really expect this to happen
