The Three Students is a short story by Arthur Conan Doyle featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. It is read by Greg Wagland. Copyright Magpie Audio 2017
Thanks! In Germany It's considered a little weird for a 13 year old to like these types of stories, but I love them and the narrator has a really nice, relaxing voice
I never read Sherlock. I have always adored the film and tv versions, almost without judgement. These audios are absolutely spectacular. I’ve listened to them more than once. I have terrible insomnia and the narrator is soothing. The stories are so visual. They help me sleep. Thank You..
I have tried drinking water with cucumbers and peppermint leaves soaking in the water. Tiny sprinkle of salt. This creates Electrolytes. Like some odd magic, I sleep now. 😌🇨🇦I do love the audio books.
I never really liked the film Sherlocks and never read them, except for The Hound of the Basketvilles. I am hooked on these now. Excellent presentation and characterizations. Watson is not portrayed as a bumbling character like in the TV version.
I have read all of Holmes in the past. But just like a child, I never get weary of hearing a story again and again. So pleased to find these audios. And kind Sir narrator, you knock my socks off. ; )
My parents had a large collection of classics when I was growing up. Holmes was my favorite. Now these audiobooks help me sleep at night. Thank you so much. 😊
You, Sr. Greg, are a bright light in the menacing shadow of this coronavirus scare! So glad I have these to listen to in order to get my mind off of these troubles for a little bit. Thank you for your time and skill in these superb productions! God bless you and keep you safe!
It's so nice to know other people have also discovered you through this terrible pandemic. I've been comforted in listening to these with headphones as I fall asleep for 2 years now I don't know of anything that could be as apeasing in these difficult times. Well done Greg, and thank you!
thank you greg, your voice is so soothing, makes me enjoy the stories so much and fall asleep to every night, thanks for your kind efforts to make and share these (and not even monetise it)
Greg you are hands down the best reader I have listened to ! Love Sherlock and Watson and listening to read is a relaxing way to fall asleep thank you.
Thank you so much for recording this story! It´s my favourite of them all. Because it´s so simple and minimalistic, yet so intriguing. It´s amazing how sir Arthur could paint such an intricate picture on such a small canvas. And I suspect, I also like it because I can easily put myself in the characters´ shoes 🙂 I have been a student, but I have never been a governess looking for an Indian treasure, an aristocrat attacked by a snake or a daughter of a London banker in love with a criminal 😀
Absolutely love these stories, I've been a huge fan of sir Conan Doyle since I was a small child, especially Sherlock Holmes. I also love Edgar Allan Poe, I would love to hear you read some of these. Great work. Thank you.
We turn this on at night and we call it our songs because one night my boyfriend was tired and asked if I was putting our songs on, by accident meaning this playlist lol :)
I was startled to find that I have so much in common with Sherlock Holmes, homely untidiness is a quality I also enjoy ;-) love listening to your dulcet tones Greg. Thank you
In school, we are doing a project on different stories. The group I am in chose this story for our project. I didn't have enough time to read the story but, I was able to listen to the audio before the project. I very much enjoy the audio of this story. I believe this is one of my new favorite stories.
How did Holmes know so early on in his examination to ask the servant about which chair he chose to sit in? I guess it just made little sense to walk so far across the room while feeling terrubly "faint". Good catch, Holmes !

Hi Karen The Digressions are now largely retired, but the I Digress series of podcasts can be searched and found on the following platforms: Podbean and iTunes. Only the final 2 episodes are on CZcams. Not sure if I'm carrying on with it, fun though it was. Hope that helps / clears it up. Cheers.
I trust that a bright future awaits you in Rhodesia. For once you have fallen low. Let us see, in the future, how high you can rise.” that was a good end !
These are great thanks. There is some inconsistency in Holmes' reasoning in this story though. He claims that the Indian student could not have guessed the nature of the papers but Gilchrist could. Also, the stationers appear to open at late hours.
Yes, that does sound a bit dodgy. Perhaps a stationers would stay open late in a university town. Who knows when the need for a broad pen nib or Power Rangers rubber might arise?
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Maybe they did in the 19th century especially during exam time. Anyway, I'm being picky. Love all the stories and have done for many years.
The Indian student only saw a series of papers rolled up that might or might not have been the proofs. Gilchrist definitely saw the proofs opened from his window and therefore definitely knew they were the scholarship proofs.
I run a child's radio program on Sunday's and am wondering if i can use all of these on my show as we have a lot of Blind ( Tween- Teen) Children tuning in? I had read all of these books as a child and would love to share them.
More than one Sunday are Sundays. To indicate the plural in English one adds an s. That's all. Apostrophes are used to indicate possession, belonging to, as in "Sunday's sermon was interesting."
The three pyramids are mud, sand and sawdust remnants of the long-jump track and pit that were on Ghilchrist's sports shoes, indentations from the spikes on the underneath. Much the same happens with golf shoes.
Usually, nothing. His work is his own reward. However, his wealthier clients often provide significant payment based upon their appreciation of the value of his services to them. Which keeps Holmes well supported.
Dash it. "Electric light"??? Unwarranted, new-fangled innovations. No more the cozy warmth, the delicate sssh of gas lanps. Already the clatter and honking of horseless carriages, next will come surely the din of motors coursing the air overhead. The detective will lack the quiet he needs to concentrate.

Glad you like them! I think I liked them at your age, but that's quite a long time ago now!
Guten nacht.
its not considered weird or shouldn’t be, it’s just in your head. be a bit more self confident
I read the Sherlock Holmes stories for the first time at age 13! Found lovely people to befriend over the years through a shared love for them

That's me! Thanks for the recommendation, Davide. However, I'm not the person for German pronunciation - definitely not.

Wonderful narration. But can you or Doyle point to the origin of the name Sherlock? Either its real origin or why Doyle chose that name?
The original name for Sherlock was going to be Sherrington, but Doyle had second thoughts and changed it.

I don't get the three little pyriamds? He says number three is the same as number one and two? I thought Holmes drew that with two students pencils
I'm not trying to get a like, I need some answers
Anyone? I really can't remember the details. Have you tried looking the story up on wikipedia? They sometimes do a detailed synopsis.
The three pyramids are mud, sand and sawdust remnants of the long-jump track and pit that were on Ghilchrist's sports shoes, indentations from the spikes on the underneath. Much the same happens with golf shoes.
