#Drumeo #DafnisPrieto #LiveLesson
John Riley talks about a concept called headroom. That is exactly what this is about. If you have the ability to play anything that comes into your head everything becomes very easy. These are just exercises that free your limbs to play whatever you choose. It may sound like rubbish to some but this is some badass shit. Dafnis is truly a master of rhythm.
His independence is off the charts ,I am a beginner of sorts ,I have not touched a drum set in 30 years ,I played hard from 18-20 years old then stopped ,all these years later I realized that I have zero independence ,my hands are still quite skilled and coordinated but , when I try to get all 4 limbs going in different directions ,I fail miserably ,I will get this if it takes forever ! Watching skilled guys like Dafnis will definitely help ,I had no teachers when I was younger ,now the whole world of drumming is right in front of me with a push of a button ,thanks to you all ,take care.
I'll sum this up in one sentence: Watch this from the beginning to 4:40 and see some of the greatest creative improvisation and independence of four limbs and time signature ever seen in the percussion world. Truly an absolute legend...
whoever said the opening solo is too disjointed no offence but you dont know what latin rhythms is all about. that solo is one of the best solos ever performed in the history of solos
You dont say you choose youre own taste in music do you?! Crazy!
Btw. you also like bananas. Its what you live for.
@@CaeSharp racist! 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
His independence is off the charts.
@@CaeSharp Disgusting comment.
@@skiphoffenflaven8004 why?
It's a long video, but worth every minute of your time, I promise. Here is a video index if you don't have the full hour to watch it now. Thank you all for your support, please like, comment, and share the video if you want to spread the Latin drumming love! - Jared Falk

Love Latin Drumming! Definitely challenging for beginners like us, but love the uniqueness of the rhythm and beats. Appreciate the split screen too. Thanks for posting this lesson.
where do I get the music scores you show on the video.... !? can I download them
Very awesome video index, thank you!

done!.....if you like please check my channnel out...i would be humbled and honored :)
I love how he ended his final solo with the same kind of thing which he used in the very beginning of his opening solo, so the whole lesson feels like one big perfomance, like a story, like something in context - simply beautiful. Brilliant musician without a doubt.
So important, so informative. Dafnis has revolutionized the way I subdivide time and consider polymetric grooves in a jazz context. Not even a drummer but this is still super helpful as a writer. Seen him 3 times and he always blows me away.
i have a huge grin on my face every time i watch the opening solo
For some reason I´ve kept coming back to this Drumeo lesson since it´s was put out. Now I think I´ve figured out why, and that is because I feel there is a lot of sincerity in the way Mr. Dafnis plays. He really means it when he talks about conveying a musical attitude while playing theses exercises. In his own way, he´s telling the truth, as the jazz masters would say.
The most talented, tasty and REAL drummer you've had on here. Good break from the linear, gospel, speed, chops, double bass... etc.
haha dude cmon! Stanton Moore isn't a tasty real drummer? pleeeaaase
Earl Mergelsberg
I didn't say he wasn't and I didn't know they had him on here.
Fair enough. Yea he did a killer lesson a few weeks back
@Anthony Ortiz You're a real snob mate. "Real" drummers... Lol. Get off your horse.
Btw I
One of the best lessons so far in this playlist. Dafnis is unbelievable.
One of the greatest and most brilliant drummers on the planet. I saw Si O Si live, and saw Dafnis up close, and he is just mind-blowing. His technical prowess (Antonio Sanchez has it too) is perfect, and most Latin drummer have freakish independence. He is also the sweetest, coolest guy you could know. His love for people and all music just glows out of him. His Proverb Trio is totally different from Si O Si. I put his autographed photo on my snare drum to see if just a smidgen of his genius could sink into my arms and brain!
Congrats on bringing Dafnis Prieto in. For real, this is pure gold
Thank you for having Dafnis on the show!! Creative, technical, and legitimate! What an artist.
started working on these exercises a few days ago, very much the challenge of a life time, but super worth it. i always wanted it be a good drummer and when i get this independence down i will be great
I totally agree, if you master this you will be ready for performing
Wow, just wow!
Thank you Drumeo for sharing this one. This is my all time favorite video of all time from now on, Dafnis you are the man
so brilliant. Thanks for the great work, Dafnis and Drumeo!
i think when this guy said "switched to the bongos" i think it means something more technical and specialized then what most of us do, when we picked up bongos! Dafnis is an amazing drummer.
In over thirty years of drumming I have never seen or heard anything like this. Total master of his art. Mind bogglingly awesome.
This is so much fun. I love practicing independence!
I've heard of Dafnis for several years, but this is the first time listening to him. Very impressive!
30 plus years of practice material in one short video !
Thank you !!
It really cracks me up listening to some of these exercises! Just unbelievable!
THE BEST DRUMEO VIDEO/ DRUM WORKSHOP I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. I AM BLOWN AWAY.
Jared, thanks so much, from India! This is a brilliant series! I watched/interviewed Dafnis when he played in Calcutta a couple of years back: what a musician!
One of the best musical attitude and approach I've ever seen!
Muy orgulloso estoy de Dafnis Prieto, un compatriota que ahora tambien honra la ciudad en que vivimos.
Nice work Dafnis! Keep it up... drummers need it!!!!!!!
Love this guy......latin drumming is amazing....I saw him live at cascio interstate music WI = amazing
Sou muito fã do Prieto; muita técnica, controle e um balanço incrível!
This guy made me fall in love with latin 🙌
He just radiates rhythms. Awesom
He will never be confused for Rikki Rocket from Poison ,hahaha.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Very grateful.
One of the best instructional videos I’ve seen. Awesome….
Dafnis is a wonderful talent. Great ideas. I'm looking forward to getting his book.
the ability to play triplets and 16ths at the same time is amazing....Thanks Dafnis
One of the best today. In my top ten favorites.
out of all the drummers drumeo has had, i'd say this was the most enjoyable and impressive, the rhythms are so complex and require so much independence, it was a delight to the ears, I'd like to see Buddy Rich or Vinnie C. tackle this type of playing, Weckl could probably handle it, latin drumming is in a class of its own, just amazing !
Very awesome!!!! Thanks for doing this. It was great to see Dafnis using some similar applications to stick control that I have used in my own practice and lessons but with his own SUPER cool "twists". Very inspiring human being. I recently saw his proverb Trio play and also bought their album. Amazing!!!!
Muito bom! Independencia e domínio da clave fenomenais! Prieto lembra muito os grandes bateras brazucas... muito som!
incredible video, definately the best iv seen on drumeo. Not only is this guy fantastic at drums he has the perfect mindset and respect towards music, highly recommend watching every second of this video.
i first heard of this guy from the modern drummer festival! and he is an amazing drummer and percussionist im a big fan
just listening to this depth of independence makes my brain grow.
Reminds me the great Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez.
Hum not really they really have a different style of Latin drumming
A great journey and great lessons learnt from cool guys from drumeo. I really learnt alot about drums eg heel toe technique; single handroll and stuff. Keep up the good job guys. Wish could be there to see you guys in action.
Best regards
Ghaz
Singapore
Thanks for this Amazing Lesson...Drumeo and Dafnis!!
this is awesome ! thanks drumeo
I practice with independence, like for example: quarter notes on left leg clave on right leg with both hands playing whole, half, quarter and 8th notes on each drum. But this is in another level! PDF SAVED!
I feel as though this video has extreme importance. The independence he has is some of the best in the world. If u have trouble listening to it, it's because its unfamiliar, and alot of the rhythmic ideas shown are advanced... yet simple conceptually
Wow! I've been playing for over 15 years and I am only able to pull off one of those exercises. Dafnis Prieto has some mad skills.
You can learn so much here I reeeeeally like lessons with this kind of structure where you have them play sheet music or that you transcribe so that we can follow along with as opposed to just discussing concepts.
Greatly talented people always make it sound so simple ! Simplicity in all the Complexity !. . . Congratulations ! You are a great master of the instrument ! It means that you have a great mastery over the philosophy of your existence ! I like it ! Bravo ! I shall always be a 'student' of yours. . .
This is fantastic. Wonderful job. Learned a lot.
That level of independence is just sick. Wow!
brilliant teacher, thank you
the guy is a next level beast...
That was SICK!! Dafnis gets busy @45:20.... Great video guys!!
He is a genius. How can you dislike this video?
i was waiting feh months for this.
ever since he came for a gig in my neighbourhood ive bin nuts about him.
his drumming, i mean.
THIS IS INCREDIBLY INFORMATIVE. BRAVO!
That beginning solo was freaking crazy!
Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This is what I call a MASTERCLASS
Wow my new favorite drummer
Dafnis is a gifT of GOD!!! thank you for uploading this great sesion!!!
This is such an important lesson.
Subdivisions at its finest!! Never seen anyone subdivide like that. Very impressive. Will def be watching this video for the next few weeks.
Great info from a really charming, humble guy.
You know what makes Dave Weckl so great is he knows Latin groves like this guy and mixes his great doubles and six stroke roll around the kit... Learn this stuff like I need to and you will start to at least come up with great solos if nothing else
The best drummer and the best video thankssss!!!
What a fantastic musician..
What a bounce ! Unbelievable
This video completely changed my playing
thanks for uploading ! will be a big learning curve for all drummer :D
This guy has four brains and two spinal cords.....this is incredible.
While I love the suggestions for other drummers. This should not be the only discussion in the comments. This guy is amazing, we need to highlight people like him more, not Thomas Laang or JoJo Mayer.
bs
