  • Hi peeps!
So, during lockdown when all the salons and shops were closed, I lightened my hair using two products: Nice 'n Easy Hair Dye Light Summer Blonde Sb2 (which didn't go too well!) and Garnier Nutrisse D+++ Bleach Lightener.
Several weeks passed between the two - I used the Nice 'n Easy for a pick-me-up because lockdown was getting me down and I tried to live with the results! However, a few weeks later I needed a presentable Skype photo for work so I panicked and reached for the bleach! Here's a vlog of the Nutrisse stage!
Now, I know bleaching hair at home isn't recommended (and you shouldn't use a paintbrush to apply it!) but when you're in quarantine, you've got to be resourceful! I sincerely apologise to any hairdressers (and decorators!) who happen to watch this video!
The results were patchy to say the least but that was my fault, as I already had colour on my hair. I should have waited for the salons to reopen but my impatience got the better of me. Believe me, I have learned some valuable hair lessons from this experience!
Thankfully the salons are now open again to repair the damage and the colour correction will provide a lucrative job for a newly-reopened local salon ;-)
I hope you enjoy the vid! Please like, subscribe and I'll see you next time!
    Stay safe,
    Lucy x

Not trying to sound like a critic but I do know a lot about hair. First of all, I'd say that you definitely didn't have enough product on your hair. Being a bleach, it will naturally be hot so will dry quickly. Make sure you that fully saturate your hair, even over saturate it if you want too. Secondly, do not brush the product through your hair, it is very damaging and will ruin your hair. Thirdly, do your roots last. The top of your head (vlose yo the scalp) is hotter than the rest of your hair, so will lighten a lot quicker. For a more even lighten, try applying to your ends first, let them lighten as much as possible and then apply to the roots. And lastly, sectioning will be very useful for an easy and precise application. I know its alot easier said than done, especially on yourself, but it will be worth it. Sorry again if that sounded like I'm critiquing you.

Thank you so much for your comment - great advice and not a critique at all! I was winging it in lockdown with zero experience of bleach so if I ever attempt this again (I probably won't lol!), I'll definitely follow your advice! 😀

if you bleach your hair again try using tinfoil on the ends to try even the colour out and leave the roots till last as they develp the fastest

I’ve been so bored that I’m gonna dye my hair tomorrow. So difficult to stimulate your mind when you’ve been in lockdown for months!

Really? It's so hard to tell how hair will respond isn't it?! My hair just sucks all the hair dye up! 😆

I dont understand why you didnt section your hair properly and thats why its patchy but the video demonstrates that it is a powerful bleach nonetheless so thank you

Hi! I didn't have the right clips to section off my hair properly and I'm also inexperienced with the texture of bleach as a opposed to more liquidy hair colours . I couldn't go to the shops to buy clips due to lockdown and I was too impatient to buy online! 🙈 So, a very amateurish attempt but I'm glad the video has been of some help as far as the strength of the bleach is concerned 🙂

I left it on the darker areas for the amount of time recommended on the box (approx 20 mins) but less on the roots because they lightened up really quickly!

Did this bleach damage your hair?

Yes, unfortunately. Initially it dried my hair out and made it stiff and brittle. The shine came back over time but the quality wasn't the same. However, I was probably to blame for not doing it properly! Perhaps someone with more expertise and experience might achieve perfect results 😀
