- This is a tutorial on how to make a Roblox avatar using Robloxs characters to rig it. Keep in mind this only the basics and I will be doing a more in depth guide on how to make a perfect version of the Roblox character rigs. I have not spent much time as weight painting is not one of my strong spots in terms of time as I don't want to make this video super long.
I will provide files for these sorts of tutorials in my discord server to use.

Great video! However here are some tips that may help!
1. Instead of setting all the parts in Blender to geometry origin, you can set the origin position in Roblox Studio to 0,0,0. And the rig will be in the center in Blender!
2. To convert the tris to quads in the body parts, you can select the item in edit mode and press *Alt+J* to convert them!
You can also set origin to geometry and then snap it to the origin and move it up a little

When I make the bones, they aren't in the same part and are split. What do I do to fix that? They also aren't inside of the avatar.

How did you get the armatures to all be in one folder? every time I try it always lists the duplicates with .00# and then the weight doesnt work.

If you duplicated the armature you will have separate ones for each bone. This is an easy fix, select the armatures and then press Ctrl+J to join them.

I’m very new to blender and I have some questions can I make a model of a character on blender then rig it? Also when ever I connect the limbs all of them connect to the arm how do I fix that?
I believe your issue is with the your weight painting as some of the bones would control some other parts of the body as well so just weight paint every bone to get specific parts to be controlled by the bone wanted.

How do I set Blender to Studio relative scene to make rig?
You can do it by getting a ready model from roblox and exporting the individual parts, however I do not know how to sort them out in blender as they are spread apart because I exported them individually and not as a single dummy
Yeah, I imported the rig and tried out importing single parts but then the the vertices would not be connected (Can be fixed in blender thou by merging by distance) and its made into triangles instead of quads which would offset the arms/ legs when bending. I guess this is just making a rig in blender but you would rather use the rig v4 by Matt RBX

@@jawatu6326 If you search up on CZcams Matt RBX (a youtuber) you should find a V4 Rig which you can download and use. Its gives more control than what I've made. Mine is just a simple rig for beginners or if you want to make it yourself.

If u put the dummy at origin position 0,0,0 in roblox you wont have to split the dummy up and stuff it'll just start at the center

Oh the head bone moves the whole body now not just the head and also the arm bones are disconnected
I’ve been trying ctrl R for loop cutting but nothing happened do you know if there’s another way to loop cut?
I guess you could use the knife tool or the bisect tool on your model in edit mode. And also check if your key binds are correct for the loop cut so that might be the reason why it is not working.
@@yertlez5088 I finally got it thanks, but I have tons of curved vertices in the arm instead of the square in the center of the arm so how would I fix that?
@@beans6902 Not quite sure what you mean by curved vertices; I just remade the whole arm instead of using the import as there were some issues with that.

@@beans6902 Yeah, Roblox arms vertices are not connected and its in tri's and not quads which make it hard to fix so I just made my own scaling it to the right size.

Maybe unparent your rig from the mesh? So Alt P to clear parent.

When I try to rotate or move my body parts it always distorts, how do we fix it?
Its probably from the way that the bones are controlling the vertices on your character. You can remove control/ distortion by going to weight paint mode and removing controlled parts that the bones uses (reddish parts) for each bone.

how do i export it to roblox, i cant seem to find a way to export it into my roblox game if possible please help
The animation idk how to export it to a starter character but to import it as a custom character with animations then export it as a FBX by going to File > Export > then in rbxs plugins tab u should find a avatar import and you can import the custom character there
It doesnt let me weight paint at 0 or over any other weight thats above 0, how do i fix this?

better than r15 that r15 joints are pretty messy
R6 is 6 parts to the character (Head, Torso, Legs 2x, Arms 2x) and r15 has 15 parts to the starter character and this is just a tutorial for a simplified rig based on matt's V4 rig for beginners. Its better using his rig than this rig I made here.

Select the bone and not the head or tail of the bone and it should say "Keep Offset", Hopefully that helps!
so you need to go on edit mode and select one bone then select your character and ctrl p and boom!

Check the vertex group for the arm that is being controlled by the head bone. Automatic weights are not always the best option so you gotta paint them yourself. Red means 100% contolled and to dark blue is 0% contolled.

What’s edit mode
Edit mode allows you to edit, modify or transform the faces, edges or vertices of the specific or multiple meshes in basic terms. Shortcut for it is Tab. You can get more information here: docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/grease_pencil/modes/edit/index.html

how do you export it to roblox?
If you want to export the whole character and rig then go to File > Export > Export as FBX > then go to rbxs and go to plugins and then avatar importer and import it as a custom character

Go into edit mode and right click on a bone, should say subdivide

If its in rendered mode then your textures might be the issue having an alpha colour in it or you might have hid it. If importing to rbxs then the starter character would have inverted normals which makes it invis

I was trying to remove the triangles using dissolve (Control X) as roblox renders in tris and not quads
do the joints bend?
The bones rotate at a pivot point but the bones wont bend just the whole arm or leg

Do you have any suggestions on plugins/ addons I should use? I know that there is one for modifier animations to be imported into Roblox but no clue how to use it.

If you press A it should select every object in your scene if your in object mode, I believe in pose mode you will select all bones if you press A.

I think this is what you mean but select your rig and go to object data properties, then viewport display and finally click on the box called In Front. I think that should fix your issue.

@@_ColaDev Not sure what you mean by that but I am assuming its custom bones. Go here: Properties > Bone Properties > Viewport Display > Custom Object. Just make an object that you would like to assign to the bone and just assign it to the custom objects and the bone should be replaced with your custom object but will still be an armature. Some issues you may fall into is if the custom bone is not in the right transformation then you can edit the origin point the original object to change the size, location & rotation.
