  • This is the MDB's last halftime show of the 2002 season and this is the only time it was performed. It was former band director Kathryn Scott's last halftime show of her 27 year tenure. Songs include: "Krypton" , "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" , "Amazing Grace" and "My Home's in Alabama." The show also included the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets and the Atlanta Pipe Band.

    All of this Ozello vs Scott... my goodness... actually.. I have seen all of the MDB's 2007 shows.. and I think they are all every bit as good as this... this show is NO more entertaining than THIS year's shows.. I don't see where people are saying she is so much better. Ozello is doing a great job.. and the shows this year were very entertaining.. and I'm not a kid.. I'm an adult who pays to watch the games and MDB play. They were great in this video.. but they are STILL great !! Roll Tide!!

    My sister was a trumpet player in the MDB that year... I still get chills watching this video. It was the most amazing halftime show I have ever witnessed. I wish the band could get back this former glory but sadly I won't be back because, as good as it is, it just doesn't compare to the days of Kathryn Scott.

    The Lord's Prayer was the intro, and it's the way we performed it in 2001 and 2002. I'm not sure it was ever attached to the end of the Lord's Prayer or not.

    All4AU, responding to your posts above...1) Yes, the MDB has a lot of musicianship. We also have a School of Music. Does Auburn? 2)The MDB would have definitely shortened their show; they've done it in the past. We don't throw a tantrum on the opponent's home field. In fact, I'm sure the MDB would gracefully forego a halftime show if the AUB band ever retired such a director and motivator as KS. Perhaps one day they will. After all, your new director, Dr. Spurlin, is an Alabama graduate.

    Nice show, but wasn't as fun as we did it back in '98. lol
    We spent all rookie and band camp learning the Grease show, then we learned the Movie show within a week. Then we played the Alabama Show in even shorter time.
    I made it a goal in 9th grade that I would be in the MDB> I didn't know anything about music, but I got the MDB scholarship my Senior year and got to march my freshman year. One of my best accomplishments!
    Roll Mutha f 'in Tide!

    Oh good grief. In 2002, UA Music and Athletic departments asked the AUB band to keep any performance they had under 5 mins. due to the retiring performance of Ms. Scott. In a facetious retaliation, and one that yet again exemplifies a vast inferiority complex, the AUB band played their pregame show during 2002 halftime. As a result, the AUB band left their audience scratching their heads over a puzzling display of musicianship (once again). That practice field thing never happened. I was there.

  • @phillipberryhill8928

    All this who-ha stuff is so not the point of anything. I marched under Kathryn and Dr. Ozzello, then taught with both of them. They are both outstanding teachers, designers, and mentors. Both UA and AU have great programs. And by the way, the current AUMD director was also a student of Kathryn and Dr. Ozzello's at UA as well as drum major and one of my roommates in grad school. For the love of music, one of the only things that's understood and still positive around the world, could we all just focus on the goodness and enjoy the sights and sound of the art?

  • @all4AU
    @all4AU Před 16 lety

    What else were we supposed to do? Virtually none of our shows were under 5 minutes, and performing a condensed pregame was the best thing to do.

    • @Altoclarinets
      @Altoclarinets Před 10 měsíci

      When we were asked to condense our performance in the MDB we would just cut a movement. Usually the first or last but sometimes we'd cut the middle and scramble for the next set. Usually only happened at bowl games, but one time, after spending two very cold, wet Thanksgiving week practices almost exclusively on cleaning one particular movement, we showed up to Iron Bowl gameday rehearsal and were informed we were cutting it because y'all had demanded we shorten our show so y'all could have more time for someone to chuck a football into a giant Dr. Pepper can or something. So yeah, it can be done. My decision to quit band after junior year was a death by a thousand cuts thing, but that was certainly the deciding one.

  • @all4AU
    @all4AU Před 16 lety

    Wasn't that during Auburn's upset win of 2002 when the AUMB performed their pregame show in Bryant-Denny? This was in response to the MDB surrounding the AUMB and playing "Yea Alabama" on Bodie Hinton Field the year before during the joint show.

  • @saxguru423
    @saxguru423 Před 16 lety

    Believe it or not, the MDB will shorten a show when asked by a host band... we did it at LSU in 2006 and I'm sure that we would do it if the AUMB ever asked for the same thing.

    • @Altoclarinets
      @Altoclarinets Před 10 měsíci

      Can confirm we did in 2013 and it was one of the most frustrating/existential experiences of my life to that point (we had just spent a very cold, wet, miserable and gross Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week almost exclusively on cleaning this movement and then we come to gameday rehearsal and they tell us we're cutting it (and since the only games potentially remaining for us were the SEC and bowl game, where we always shortened the show because dumb advertising BS was deemed more important than anything any of the students were doing on the field, we wouldn't be performing it ever again, so all that work was literally pointless.) I quit the MDB after that season, not exclusively because of this incident but it sure was the last straw)

    I'm sure the MDB would've kept their show under 5 minutes if we had asked them to *rolls eyes*!!! But we wouldn't want to take away from the MDB's "musicianship" now would we? If I recall correctly, the Auburn fans went crazy when we spelled out Auburn because we were up 17-0, and we kept it under the requested 5 minutes! War Damn Eagle!

    Kathryn Scott and K. Ozzello are definitely from different schools. Scott was all about the showbiz, the glam, and the in your face cheese. Ozzello is from the new millenium high school/dci motif. He prefers marching precision and solid shows. WOW! Bama has dropped somewhat.

    • @fredwiley3731
      @fredwiley3731 Před 5 lety

      I hate the DCI motif, I am glad M SCott kept the true college band look and feel. Now all these bands are playing crap sound and very little marching. Just running around the field like some ants. These formations were beautiful and music was fantastic.

    • @Altoclarinets
      @Altoclarinets Před 10 měsíci

      Interesting you say that, because when I was in the MDB (well into the Ozzello era) I found myself getting rather bored because the shows, particularly the drill, felt very old fashioned and simple compared to what I had spent all of highschool marching. If Dr. O is from a drum corps school, it's more like what existed around 1988-92 than what they're doing now...

  • @bassoondude101
    @bassoondude101 Před 14 lety

    Great show, but in the beggining of the Olympic Fanfare, the low brass overpowered the trumpet melody, but i think that is just bad sound quality in the recording equipment.

  • @LoyalTideFan
    @LoyalTideFan Před 17 lety +1

    It was a Kathryn Scott show...Dr. Ozello doesn't have the imagination to do something like this.

    Then, why are his shows since Kathryn left so...static and devoid of any creativity? No showmanship.
