      That’s brilliant to hear Kokoete (that flight simulation allows you to live your dreams, at least in part)!
      Of course both real world flying and flight simulation have their unique benefits and drawbacks, but there is a lot of enjoyment to be had in flight simulation, especially now with MSFS and it’s wonderful world we have to explore. It’s actually amazing how far flight simulation has become and honestly now, in some respects, it’s not too far off the real deal!
      Happy flying and all the best! : )

    I actually like the reg number baked into the texture. The custom ones are often the wrong colour (eg white on white) and it's nice to have period-correct lettering for older planes. I realise I'm probably in the minority on this!
    Great review as ever. If my hanger wasn't already full of piston singles this would be a no-brainer. A light GA twin with the Just Flight treatment would be awesome. I'm thinking a Duke or PA31.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha, not at all Roland. I actually like the liveries, but Just Flight usually provide one aircraft where you can customise the registration (it’s usually at the end of the livery selection options). I would just like it if they offered all of the liveries in the same way (so 6 baked in and then the same 6 duplicated, but with customisation available for example). I wouldn’t really mind, except they always tend to make the least visually appealing livery (in my opinion anyway) the customisable one haha.
      I don’t think you’re the only one getting single-engine GA saturation. Just Flight do have some other exciting projects in the works, I don’t think a twin is one of them though. I think we’ll be waiting on the MILVIZ C310 for that - which I’m sure will be excellent also!

  • @delta558
    @delta558 Před 2 lety +1

    Couple of points - the aircraft hits all the speeds for the POH on climb and cruise, as I should imagine you are aware they are all at max weight. Also the trim - it's a sim issue and we had a bit of a discussion over this on the MSFS forum but the sim does NOT trim realistically. That's a sim problem. To get a stall, you need to trim for low speed *accepting the way the sim deals with trim* and then try it. It ain't great, but it's what we have to deal with. Also, please bear in mind that the default setting you fly with has the CG on the front edge of the allowed range, and that is probably contributing to the nose-heavy take off and some of the stall characteristics.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Delta, thanks very much for the feedback!
      I realise the aircrafts performance would differ from the POH, given its weight and balance at the time - indeed I mentioned this during the review. I still feel like the initial climb rate on takeoff was rather too rapid though? The rest I am happy to put down to a light aircraft and fading memories. . .
      Re the trim and C of G issue. You're correct I'm sure and it certainly felt like that is what was happening. I still think it's fair to mention during the review though, since I believe it's ultimately up to the developer (and Asobo) to induce the correct behaviors from the aircraft, not the user. That's not to be critical of Just Flight, I simply feel that where the aircraft behaves differently from its real-world counterpart, the customer would probably like to know.
      Again, thanks for the input / feedback; definitely a few things for me to consider during future reviews and I will try and make mention of trim / C of G issues should they rear their head again in the future.

    I am not overly keen on the JF warrior 2 if I am honest. There's still something about the flight model that feels off to me even with the update and a general feeling of not enjoying flying this one in the sim. JF could have nailed it in all fairness but I couldn't say having never flown one.

      Sorry to hear that, NG. The Warrior was definitely a little overpowered when I first flew it, but I haven't had a chance to try the update myself. The systems, sounds and visuals are great on the aircraft, but the flight model does (did) feel a little bit sensitive, though in fairness, that is the case for most aircraft in the sim.

  • @TheBullethead
    @TheBullethead Před 2 lety +1

    Great review. But in the real world, you leave the beacon on always, so once you're out of the plane, you can look back and check if you left the battery on. And when you get in for the next flight, the beacon comes on as soon as you turn on the battery.
    I wish you'd have tried a power-off stall. In the real world, you can hold the stick fully back and it will stall, the nose will drop, speed builds up, and it goes back nose-up until it stalls again. And no wing drop. It would have been nice to see if this was how the sim version works.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Bullethead,
      Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it!
      The beacon thing sounds like more of a convention, as opposed to a procedure. I spent quite a bit of time flying the PA28 also and at my flying school it was nav lights on when electrically powered, anti-collision light on when the engine was running (and just prior to the start).
      I was using a real-world checklist for the vid here and followed the procedures from that. I’m not saying you’re wrong, it’s a sensible piece of logic and I effectively do the same thing with the nav lights (albeit they may be harder to spot); I wouldn’t say it’s an “always” though, so much as a pilot preference.
      Apologies for not having tried the power-off stall, that would have been a good one to demo for sure.
      Cheers and all the best! : )

    • @TheBullethead
      @TheBullethead Před 2 lety

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Yeah, checklists don't really do a good job when it comes to turning various lights on and off--they don't consider the real world. Leaving the beacon switch on permanently is a good habit to have for 2 reasons, so checklists should be changed to reflect that.
      Another light-related issue with ALL checklists is when to turn the landing/taxi lights on/off. The checklist timing doesn't consider interaction with marshallers. These lights should NEVER be on when the plane is facing a marshaller as they're blinding even in daylight. When departing, they should be left off until you're ready to roll, then blinked to let the marshaller know this so he'll start signaling you out. Once pointed away from him, you can turn the light on. Similarly, when coming onto the ramp, turn these lights off just before you get pointed at the marshaller.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety

      No there isn’t much modelled in terms of vibration effects etc Fedor. I would say that’s seemingly more of a sim issue than a specific aircraft one though. Most aircraft are woefully lacking in this department (though we are starting to see a little more of that sort of thing now). If I recall correctly the Warrior does a exhibit a little vibration when starting up / shutting down the engine, but it’s pretty minimal. The rest of the camera effects seemed to be much the same as the sims default ones.
      It would certainly be nice to see improvements in this area (throughout the sim). . .

      I’m not sure whether or not the sim differentiates between grass or a hardened surface (in terms of flight modelling), but the climb rate did seem to give the game away yeah. 800fpm sounds much more like what I can remember (I spent most of my time in the Warrior solo and often not fully fuelled).

    I purchased it as soon as I could since like yourself have flown the real plane when it first came out. Back them it seemed like state of the art. Very enjoyable plane for flying around on short cross country flights. They have published a patch already which fixes a few things such as the wheel pants are now on by default. They also have a « clean cockpit « option. I also find that the flight model needs some work, for example the speed increase with the wheel pants on should only be about 7 kts but it’s quite a bit more. And you are correct about the stall characteristics. Overall a great little airplane that I’ve already flown a lot in the sim. JustFlight always delivers great products

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety

      Hehe well by the time I got to it, the Warrior was the trusty old workhorse, but I always enjoyed it more than the more modern Diamonds etc that I’ve flown. It has a very “honest” quality to it.
      I’ll have to check out the new patch then, although I suspect they’ll be another on the way very shortly due to update 5 haha. I guess removing the wheel fairings would have accounted for my slightly “spritely” cruise speed by the sounds of it. Someone else reckoned that the stall was off due to the way the sim handles trim. That may well be the case, but I figure you’ve just got to go with what you see for these reviews, whether it’s JF or Asobo causing the particular behaviour.
      Thanks as always for your feedback. Often it’s very helpful in letting me know where I hit the nail on the head, or failed to do so. Particularly when I haven’t flown the aircraft myself (and you of obviously have a fairly unique background of experience). As you say, Just Flight usually delivers!

      Hi Steve,
      It somewhat depends on what you’re looking to get out of the flight. If you want to enjoy the view, I’d go with the C152, as the high wing allows for better visibility however, in terms of the more enjoyable flying machine, I much prefer the PA28 myself (funnily enough, I did about half of my PPL in a 152 and the other half in a Warrior - Wycombe was one of my old stomping grounds also).

      Yeah, I would imagine some developers were / are holding out, to see whether the Xbox market becomes a viable prospect or if it’s just a bit of a “fad”. Makes sense for them not to jump the gun, but I think there’s enough interest there, that in the long run they’ll be missing out if they don’t adapt. We’ll see. . .
      Oh yeah? Probably was about the same time as me then haha. I did a similar thing down south, working as a busybody at my local gliding club in exchange for flights. I very much enjoyed it, but I think they got their money’s worth out of me! Child labour at its finest haha! XD

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Haha, rubbing t-cut over an entire light aircraft is hard work. Not sure if it's standard practice to regulary use t-cut, but that's how this owner did it.
      Mine was work experience, not volunteering, in exchange for lessons. I was about 14-15 at the time IIRC. I eventually ended up having a disagreement with the owner and that was the end of that.
      Never flown since, but that's mainly due to funds. I got into motorcycles instead in my early 20's so that was a huge money sink.
      The xbox marketplace at current consists mostly of what people call the scam addons, aircraft wise. In terms of decent quality stuff we have the Carenado C170B & Waco. There's a few military aircraft, but I would only fly stuff like that in DCS. I'd definitely be tempted by a BAE Hawk though.

      That’s a shame (although sadly a little inevitable perhaps) about the Marketplace. I guess maybe some addons simply wouldn’t be able to run on the Xbox, but others I guess it’s just the developers choice. There’s certainly quite a bit of junk accumulating on the Marketplace unfortunately. Hopefully things will improve for the Xbox in the long run. Well, a Hawk is in development, but ”unfortunately” its being developed by Just Flight. Im sure they will do a brilliant job, but I guess it might be the same issues again with them, brining it to the Xbox. . .

    Another very good flight and thorough review - the approach into Popham looks like fun.

    Although I think a lot of real-life Warriors have the rotating beacon operated by the anti-collision switch, one thing I learnt from the JF forum is that in this version it is operated by the navigation lights switch. I.e. When the navigation lights are on, the beacon is on; at least that way you don't have to have the strobe on when taxiing to the runway!
    (In the manual there is no mention of the rotating beacon at all so, other than by trial and error, there is no way of knowing which switch to use; in fact, the manual says to "turn on the navigation lights, warning anyone in the area that we are about to start the engine" but in a seperate section states that the "navigation lights are controlled by a rocker switch on the main switch panel" - no wonder that there's a lot of confusion about controlling the lights of the aeroplane!)

      Thanks Rich! Yeah, Popham was great fun (was my first ever sim flight in there actually)!
      Thanks for the info on the lights. That’ll teach me for not reading the manual! Though in fairness, I was falling back on my knowledge of the real-world aircraft haha; certainly on the Warriors I flew, the anti-collision switch controlled the beacon. I find the newer Pipers even more confusing, as they seem to have done away with the beacon altogether!
      Cheers again. All the best : )
