Part of a series of short videos on the experience with maintaining our own cars.
We currently have a 1996 Jaguar XK8 4.0 V8 Petrol, a 2014 Ford Kuga (Explorer) 2.0 diesel and a 2013 Nissan Leaf 80Kw Electric car.
We Current have lots of useful playlists on the @O&DRModurol Channel for these cars.

And so it begins!! good luck Damian, i cannot wait to see how this all turns out for you buddy 🙂
Simon, It’s been a bit of a slow start but we will get there, fingers crossed. Thanks for the kind words of support, much appreciated, regards Damian
All the best with the conversion! Whenever I drive my mine I can’t help but think how great a manual transmission would be to keep the AJV8 singing, the J-gate just isn’t the same. It’s hard to believe a manual was never a factory option
@asteriskaddiction, thank you for the encouragement. My thoughts exactly especially with the XK8 and its VVT. The gear selection seems to activity avoid the car triggering the VVT and any acceleration. It is hard to understand why Jaguar never built them, regards Damian
@@ODRModurol Perhaps because USA was the target market, and offering a manual option was probably vetoed as too expensive and likely to be sold in much smaller qtys.
That's my theory anyway.
You really are a glutton for punishment, however I wish you the best of luck and will follow your (hopeful) progress with great interest.
Alan, Thanks for the encouragement. It’s quite a big job but lots of interest, plus it’s not a repair, regards Damian
It looks like your network is growing to include the top Jaguar specialists in the world. With them in your corner you can’t go wrong. Right?
Tom, Not thought about that. I would like to think all Jaguar enthusiasts will help each other out. It’s great to see it includes those who have been able to make a living out of something they are passionate about. Thanks to everyone who’s helping me with their advice especially the specialists. I much appreciate everyone’s valuable time. A problem shared is a problem halved and I have no shortage of problems, regards Damian.
I am now looking for a workshop that can split the mechotronic unit from transmisson check and recondition then refit .
Paul, are you talking about the P0706 code? Not just the cable adjustment shown in TSB 307-01 then? Regards Damian.
Yes the code P0706.
Paul, OK, regards Damian
I found out that these seals degrade and are located between the mechotronic unit and the transmisson. The four tubes and the rectangular bridge seal.
I have a pic with original ZF part numbers but couldn't upload here
Paul, i didn’t know that, if you have any information to share you can email us at oanddr@gmail.com ,thanks Damian
Hi there . Can you tell me where the range sensor is located for the transmisson of a 2004 XK8. I am getting limp mode and code P0706. Is there a rotary switch on the transmission that can be replaced or is the range sensor located inside the gearbox hydraulic mechanism.
Paul, Good question. I haven't had this issue before but found there was a Technical Service bulletin for just this issue. TSB 307-01 - Selector Lever Cable - Adjustment Procedure (link at the bottom to the TSB). All TSB's are available at our website www.modurol.co.uk. With any luck it will just be a bit of stretch in the cable that needs re-adjustment. Car Crush UK (John) did a good video of this (link at the bottom). 5min 43sec onwards shows you the idea. Hope that fixes your problem and please let us know how you get on, regards Damian

I have changed the linear switch which is at the J Gate on the 2004 model after the P0706 code. I have a new battery. I think what you are doing with changing to manual is a good long term fix becaise the TCM and assoiciated sensors and limit switches seem over complicated and unreliable.
I have a 2006 merc CLS and when I had an issue the mechotronic block was split and sent for refurbishment and then no issue since.
Paul, correct, getting rid of the automatic gearbox has a few benefits including improved reliability, regards Damian
Yes i will email you the pics
Paul, got them. Sorry I not familiar with this issue but thanks for sharing. Interested to see if this fixes the issue, regards Damian
