  • i wanted to share this moment between me and my family showing a pretty normal long car journey with Tourette's! 🎗️
    i haven't posted a compilation of tics for a while (i felt uncomfortable posting any coprolalia tics after so many comments) but i feel it's important to show these sides as well as educating on the negatives, because although TS is really hard to live with, it also does make me laugh at times! i hope this brings you some laughter, joy or understanding 🙂

    ✰ About Me ✰
    My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about disability, neurodiversity and what its like living with Tourette's Syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and Orthostatic Hypotension. Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition causing involuntary movements called tics.
    I use my social media (TikTok, CZcams and Instagram) to advocate and raise awareness for my conditions and show what it is like living with a disability as a neurodivergent person. I am also autistic and share my sensory struggles along with my experiences with mental health disorders.
    I show what its like having a disability and the accommodations I have to help my daily life. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user showing my life using mobility aids and how chronic illness symptoms change from day to day!
    I am also a musician with a popular song called "She's Mine" available on all streaming services - I wrote, produced, mixed and mastered all my songs myself! I am also an artist and a writer. I love reading and I'm currently writing a novel and a book about my life!

    Do you ever have "written" tics when typing? I don't have tourettes or any ticcing disorder afaik, but I have always had this thing where I will just start typing vulgar/dirty stuff when taking notes or writing documentation.
    (goes down a google rabbit hole and discovers "coprographia" exists)
    I'm not sure if it qualifies as a tic, but I have often worried about forgetting to delete it in emails or code commits or other "permanent" things that could ruin my day. It is like it just pops out whenever my mind wanders when writing, or when I forget what I was going to say mid sentence, or otherwise get stuck. I've done it as long as I can remember, but I have always been able to repress it whenever I'm not alone (thankfully).
    I do have mild motor tics (neck twitching and sniffing), but only really noticed them as such after stumbling onto your channel. I have ADHD, and my motor tics only really show up when I'm bored or anxious (or both, lol). I can also suppress them most of the time, but when I'm bored it's just a matter of time 😂. It was weird feeling a sense of understanding when I first watched your videos, and I can see how seeing tics could easily set off tics.
    I've learned a lot about Tourette's from your channel, and a bit about myself, too. Thanks for putting out the interesting and educational content :)

      Congrats on your diagnosis and answers, I mean this in the nicest way, but neurologists should not diagnose Tourettes until you’ve had both vocal and motor tics for longer than one year, and do blood tests and examinations to ensure it isn’t caused by something else.

    • @Therian_Paws_
      @Therian_Paws_ Před měsícem

      I’m not sure I believe this story, because the criteria for being diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome is you must have at least two motor tics and at least one vocal tics, and the tics must be consistent for over a year. You can’t just go to the doctor and get diagnosed after involuntarily cussing one day. Plus, before getting a diagnosis, they must perform blood tests and brain scans to determine if it is perhaps not Tourette Syndrome, and instead a different thing.

    Hi, I just wanted to ask if Tourrette's has to negatively affect people, or be a really big issue. Often times my tics don't bother any body or me, (with a few exceptions) but I wanted to know what you have to say on this topic. Thank you!

    Hi Zara! First, love your content! As a fellow neurodivergent, I really appreciate your constant efforts to spread awareness.
    Second, I am writing a novel right now and one of my main characters has Tourettes. It's very important to me to write her condition realistically and respectfully, and I was wondering if you have any tips?

    • @Therian_Paws_
      @Therian_Paws_ Před měsícem +2

      I have some tips! (coming from my own experience)
      Keep the tics consistent, but not non-stop. Tics do waver at points. When experiencing any strong emotion, tics get worse, especially in stressful situations and when uncomfortable. Tics may also be repetitive. Sometimes, a certain tic happens multiple times or is just very repetitive throughout the day. Tics do sometimes interrupt your sentences, but also can stop during a sentence. When you are very focused, tics become reduced or stop entirely.
      Thats just a little explanation, please do ask if there is anything you would like to know!

    • @jessica_bishop

      @@Therian_Paws_ Wow, thank you so much!
      Is there like a sensation or any other kind of forewarning before a tic? I seem to remember hearing that but haven't found anything about it in my research. If so, what does it feel like and does it fluctuate?

    • @Therian_Paws_
      @Therian_Paws_ Před měsícem

      @@jessica_bishop There is something called a premonitory urge, and its when tension builds up where you are about to tic. Its a very uncomfortable sensation, and you can suppress it. Large tics aren’t always aboe to be suppressed, but little ones can.
      Here is a quite a lot of information to take hold of:
      When you suppress a tic, it is very similar to a sneeze. You can hold back the sneeze, but its very uncomfortable and keeps trying to come out. Eventually, it comes out anyway. Thats how suppressing a tic works. When you do suppress a tic, it causes more, but they are usually smaller. You can also make your vocal tics quieter, but that also causes more frequent tics. I hope this helps, and remember, please don’t be afraid to ask questions! I would love to help you in the novel you are writing!

    I don’t want to trigger your tics, and I don’t want to vent or anything. But I’ve been struggling figuring out of i have Tourette’s or anything. I never swear, or do anything vocal. But I have shoulder shrugging, eye rolling/eye movements. Grimacing, ones with my mouth/tongue. And used to have one with my stomach, and it hurt. If I don’t do any of these I don’t feel right. So maybe somethings wrong with me. I don’t know.
    You don’t have to respond if you don’t want to. I’m not begging.

    • @Therian_Paws_
      @Therian_Paws_ Před měsícem

      The criteria fir having Tourette Syndrome is that you must have at least two motor tics and at least one vocal tic, and the tics must be consistent for over a year. If you don’t have any vocal tics, then you don’t have Tourette’s, but you likely do have a tic disorder. See a doctor and you can be referred to a neurologist. Just a heads up-you will likely have to have blood tests and brain scans performed! (Thats what happened to me)
