    Just an extra information:
    The Jerusalem Cross was actually the symbol of the first protector of Jerusalem, after reconquest in the Crusades. It represents the five wounds of Christ.

    Beautiful. You may make a video about symbols in iconography: light, reverse perspective, non-realistic figures, colores, stars on МР ОУ, symbolism of wood, water, time, space, etc. The iconography is full of profound symbols from the beginning, and in order to better understand icons, we need to understand the symbols as paths and leaders.

    On the break from y’all releasing videos, I rewatched all the videos on this channel & came across this one.
    At around the 5:19 minute mark, you mention the possibility of making a video on the symbolism of plants.
    I think that’d be amazing if you ever get around to it! I’ve built a prayer garden in my backyard & I want to fill it with plants that have special meaning to Christianity, so this concept interests me.
    I’ve learned a lot about the Catholic Cloister gardens, & was wondering if the Orthodox have any special concepts or ideas when it comes to garden design.
    Another thought here, but I studied architecture in college. I bet it’d be fun to see something about the symbolism in Orthodox architecture too!
    Just ideas tho-take them or leave them!

    The Jerusalem Cross is a variation of the Signaculum Domini, and in addition to the things you mention, represents the 5 wounds of Christ. It is a very ancient and common Christian symbol, including being stamped on a coin/medallion of the Emperor Constantine. It was ubiquitous in the medieval period.

  • @grubbmeister1666
    @grubbmeister1666 Před rokem

    There is something of a difference between symbols as arbitrary 'signs' (e.g. our current alphabet) and symbols that we naturally intuit as having meaning. The cross falls into this latter category: it has struck people as conveying something about the structure/meaning of reality from the earliest times of human history.

      You are correct, but he is also correct. The symbol, like most, is polyvalent. The centre cross is the pierced heart.

      Matthew 27:38 Mark 15:27 Luke 23:32,33.
      John 19:18. As far as which one was which it does not say. However we know Jesus puts goats on his left side and sheep on his right. Not sure why people say repentant thief on right but seems to make sense. Cannot say dogmatically.
