    And in a piece of history-making, 36 of them flew into Japan last night - the first full cargo load of horses ever to land in Haneda, the waterfront airport that serves the greater Tokyo area and which is now welcoming a very different group of Olympic athletes. The four-legged time travellers are all Equestrian #Dressage horses and include some Olympic superstars, among them Bella Rose, the mare ridden by Germany’s Isabell Werth, the most decorated Olympic equestrian athlete of all time.

    I actually get chills watching these horses get loaded and unloaded. They are every inch the Olympic athlete that has trained years to reach the top of their ability and to compete in an international competition against the best of the best. Even blanketed you can see they are in prime condition and they seem to be very intent on going about their jobs. I hope they all get to compete with their riders and give their best performances. I wish them all to stay healthy and wish them safe travels home when all is done.

      rollkur/LDR is abuse do your research. Dressage and many of its horses have been ruined by woman (and men) like her. She sounds like a control freak. You cant be at that level and not have grooms you and your horses have deep trusting relationships with. The grooms are an extremely important and complimentary asset to high level competition and day to day care in between. If you cant even trust your own groom to fly with your horse without you, maybe you are the one who shouldn't be trusted.

    Very interesting process. Thank you for documenting the journey. Is there another quarantine once they land, or is it just the 7 days pre-flight?

      @baysalldays4882 Před 2 lety +2

      I sold a horse that had to go overseas, we had two options. One was to quarantine her for 2 weeks where we are at the airport or to have her flown over and quarantine over there in the airport for two weeks. I’m assuming it’s something like that, but I could be wrong.

      It usually depends on the countries livestock import regulations. They may have to do an additional quarantine of 7-14 days but they also go weeks before the Olympics begin anyway to adjust to the time difference (so the aren’t ‘jet lagged’) and temperature change (some horses are going from 15 degrees to 30 overnight)

      I think Japan has stricter regulations because they don't have a lot of animal diseases that other countries have like rabies, equine herpes, etc.
      I know they're super strict about pets and I'd assume it's similar for horses. But they're also moving horses in and out of Japan a lot for racing.

      There are often different procedures for Olympic horses than "normal" horses entering a country.

    Thats some logistics going on here. I love how Isabell cares about her horses. I'd be like that too lol.
    This is 1 of the reasons why I love horse sports more than things like football. The amount of planning, preparing, care .... It is such a massive undertaking. Not even thinking about the costs of all this.
    I'm wondering, do they have to pay for those flying tickets themself? And if so, do they pay for themselfs, their grooms and their horses seperatly or all in one? And what about the destination, do they have to pay for the stall and the hotel/accomodation for themselfs and their horse?

    I just wanna say that everyone cares for their horses normally but I think that owners and riders trust the people that are caring for them and also trust the horses

    It's one thing for human athletes to travel, but taking horses that far is another thing entirely. You guys do a fantastic job. Keep it up. :)
