Hey are you familiar with Boker Aparo knife. If yes, which one would you say is superior if you are not familiar with it, check it out. Its supposedly one of the toughest hollow handle knives (besides the Chris Reeves/Schrade clone), but those are one piece knives and Boker Aparo is two piece knife, with the hollow handle bolting on to the blade. Despite that, no one has ever been able to break and separate the handle from the knife. I don't even know if they make the knives anymore which makes them even more sought after. I thought I wanted to get the Boker, but now I'm digging the M9 also.

This bayonet does not fit a standard 16 inch barrel AR-15. It fits a military issue M-4 barrel that is 14.5 inch long. I know because I bought this SZCO bayonet and it did not fit my 16 inch AR-15. The barrel hole on the guard was on the barrel and not on the flash hider. The bayonet was loose. You can buy a bayonet lug extension at $30 but I did something else. If you disassemble this bayonet you will find it doesn't have a full tang. It has a threaded rod tang welded to the end of the blade. The short tang the blade has does have a hole drilled in the hardened steel. What I did was I cut the shoulders of the blade where the guard is, the thickness of the guard and slid the guard up the blade. I then took a 3/8 inch inside diameter galvanized pipe, slotted it and drilled a hole in the pipe so that when the pipe is driven up on the blade the hole in the pipe lines up with the hole in the blade, then I pressed a hardened steel roller pin in the hole through the pipe and through the blade to give it strength and pressed it with a 20 ton press. What no one tells you is that these bayonets break at the weld point where the rod is welded to the tang when you try to use them or put pressure on them sideways of the blade, the weld snaps off. I tightened everything on the existing rod and tang and slid the pipe over and drove it up over the blade then pinned it. I then drilled out the existing handle ABS handle so it would fit over the 3/8 inch pipe and then slid it up over the pipe. I cut the pipe allowing for the length of it to allow the pommel with bayonet lug latch to reach the lug on the rifle. I lengthened it by almost a inch and 3/4 or so. I purchased a longer 6mm cap screw to fasten the pommel lug to the end of the inside rod/tang so the bayonet will mount up to a 16 inch AR15. I then stamped out leather to create the pieces to finish the handle in stacked leather. I glued those pieces with epoxy and then mounted it to the handle and shaped it with a grinder. I then coated it with conditioner to treat the leather and then put the pommel latch on the end of the bayonet. I now have a full tang over the partial welded tang and it is very tough and strong as well as mine now fits my AR-15 in the proper manner. The pommel latch is right up against the 3/8 inch thick walled galvanized pipe so it is complete and strong from blade to pommel. I posted information and photos/video of my modified M-9 SZCO bayonet on Amazon under the reviews of this bayonet. Forgot to mention the bottle opener on the guard, That is what the notches are that are cut into the guard on the bayonet on the blade side of the guard.

Good idea! Yes the handle can be easily dissembled. But that is a lot of work to make it better! I would just replace inside of plastic handle with metal tube and be done with it. Blade has short tang with thread welded on and narrow pipe screwed on to simulate "full tang". A youtuber did stress test on wartech bayonet by throwing it at 20 yards multiple times at plywood and unfortunately it didn't survive, plastic around short tang wound up completely broken and as result the rod which was welded to the short tang also bent. Just replacing the plastic outer part with metal tube will make this bayonet much stronger, probably no need to go all the way like what you did.

I have the Smith & Wesson® Special Ops® M-9 Bayonet comes fully loaded with a black powder spear point blade and a textured nylon handle. The edge has a notched spine and large blood grooves and deep grooves. Included is a black scabbard with a large storage pouch, a sharpening stone, and wire cutters.
    Features:
    Blade Length: 7.8"
    Overall Length: 12.8"
    Weight: 0.9125lb
    Blade Material: 420J2 Stainless Steel
    Handle Material: Thermoplastic Rubber
I got it around 2003-5 hard to remember when but I have never had any problems or issues with it and has always been at the top of my larger blade collection I believe the only thing I changed was the degree of the edge by taking 2 off so I can get a sharper edge makes cutting rope and other materials easier I was using a lot more force with the manufacture edge but yea I love my bayonet and I only paid $30 at Big5 for it because it was the last one they had and the box was damaged it was used as the display counter. I was wondering if the one you have also came with sharpening stone embedded under the nylon webbing by the wire cutter like mine did?
Just to remind all it’s not a full tang blade it will break if you use it for chopping or twisting or prying with the right amount of force if you unscrew the handle you will understand what I mean it’s a straw size shaft in that handle.

The Smith & Wesson bayonets made in China are manufactured by the Taylor-owned Guangzhou Balide factory, which also manufactures bayonets/hunting/survival knifes for Old Timer, Schrade, Snake Eyes Tactical, SZCO, etc. If you own a combat knife manufactured in China, it was almost 100% guaranteed to have been made by Guangzhou Balide, and they should all be about the same quality. As you're probably aware, weapon manufacturing is extremely regulated by the Chinese commies, so there's only a couple of factories even allowed to make knives, and Guangzhou Balide is the largest.

You guys are both correct, but there's more to it. When Randall began creating knives with a square-shaped notchback (during the Korean War) the sole intention was to remove unneeded steel at the beefiest part of the blade in order to achieve a perfect balance. When the company found out that Marines had started sharpening the notches for use as a saw, Randall started doing the same.
In the last 60 years, designs have become more elaborate, but you can still find knives utilizing the old square notched back, which was never really meant to be used as a saw. This SZCO M9 has what is called a sharkfin style tooth, which is kind of a hybrid between the square notch and the sawback. It could be used as a saw in a pinch, but the teeth would need to be filed in order to make it a really effective saw. The sharkfin design basically leaves it up to the owner to use it as he sees fit.

I have a real M9 bayonet from Ontario..
This are the best versions ever made.
    Phrobis..Lan Cay..Buck M9's did sometimes break..
But the New Ontario is almost indestructible..
I did tests with it you wont believe...
The Ontario US M9 Multipurpose bayonet system is the best bayonet ever made..
    Its all in one.
BTW..the mother of the Rambo knife was the Ontario pilot Survival knife.
And the grandmother was the Swedish M1896 hollow handle bayonet from begin 1900.
When the Rambo first blood one knife was made the M9 bayonet did not exist yet.
    Nice video!

Thanks for the review, cool knife for the money. Check out the MTech USA MT-20-39 if you not already, it looks wacky but is made to be a knife & seems indestructible no joke. I'm timpted to get the one in this video, but I got more knives than brain cells currently ha. And you are doing well keep it up.

      @andrashavas Před rokem +1

@@DonnieBAllDay I heard on CZcams somewhere that it is welded. If so, it is so much better than anticipated... I have a China bayonet in the form of Deception Bayonet or Albainox Adventure bayonet with a more squarish tanto design with the same picture on the box as you have. It is supposedly a welded tang, but I was wondering how much it can endure. So if the SZco is welded, then it is way more sturdy than biased reviewers advertised. There is lot of bull**** on the net highly abusing the knives, breaking them, then crying foul. (I tried to take it apart but found the screw too tight, thought better to be safe than sorry.)

For the record, despite what he says, the military uses a 14.5 inch barrel (on a short gas system) and a 20 inch barrel (On a rifle length gas system). The military DOES NOT use 16 inch barrels, but 16 inch barrel with mid length gas system will fit (but it may partly cover your muzzle device, and it WILL wobble more than a 14.5-short or 20-rifle barrel-gassystem).
In contradicting him, Im not saying that he didn't serve. I'm only saying that in my time serving, I met a lot of other grunts who didnt necessarily remember the specific lengths of barrels... and when it came to POGs, every one I've met either knows every measurement to a ridiculous degree... or they don't know a damned thing about firearms in general.

    • @DonnieBAllDay

First off, you're 100% correct. We carried 14.5" barreled M4's. I got out in 2012 and for extra money, began building and selling custom rifles until MA banned them. Everything I built was with the 16" barrels. I don't plan my dialog, nor do I write anything down ahead of time. If I fuck up, which happens ALL THE FUCKING TIME, then oh well. I'm used to it. But, when you comment on someones post, address them. After a double tour 2011/2012 as Movement my rifle was glued to me. You can always join me on FB if you need photos.
