AJ admitted on a White Sox broadcast that he wasn’t sure if it was the ball hitting the dirt or the glove hitting the dirt. He also said he thought the home plate ump basically panicked
I think the umpire made a bad call, the catcher cought the ball cleanly.
@@arturotabanico5876 Bottom line, the home plate umpire signaled strike 3 swing and miss when he extended the arm, and then he called the hitter out when he did the fist.
Surprisingly, if I remember correctly, when the umpire was questioned, he said that the fist-signal means that the play is still alive (WHAT THE HECK)
@@arturotabanico5876 On a low pitch like that, the catcher should do one of two things: 1) immediately show the umpire the ball which is the catcher's way of saying, "I caught it." Umpires usually accept that, or 2) immediately tag the runner.
What the catcher should *not* do is roll the ball back to the mound as this catcher did.
@@arturotabanico5876 Most catchers who catch the ball on a low pitch like that do not simply roll the ball out to the mound. They are aware that the umpire *may* have thought the ball hit the ground so they either a) show the umpire the ball, indicating that they caught it or b) tag the runner before heading to the dugout. If the runner takes off running and the catcher is unable to tag him, most catchers will throw it to 1st even if they are convinced they caught the pitch. There is no time to dispute the matter.
He was the backup behind the plate. But to reward someone(AJ striking out and getting awarded first base) for failing should never be a thing.
The umpire called him out though. He makes the strike call, and then makes a fist, indicating that the catcher caught the ball. He then acts like he never made the call.
Alex H your right, he def signaled out
I've been watching MLB since the Pony Express, wouldn't you know I never heard of this umpire Eddings til he missed the call. To me this wasone of the worst calls in playoff history.
White Sox went on 2 sweep Angels to win 05 pennant.
+Alex H If its a dropped third strike or the ball touches the ground on strike 3 (which the umpire assumed the ball did) the batter will be called OUT on strikes HOWEVER its up to the catcher to throw to first or tag the runner to make it official.
There have been multiple innings with literally more than 3 outs due to the catcher not throwing the ball to first on time. in fact there have been multiple innings where a pitchers strikes out 5 (yes five) guys in the same inning. catcher doesn't throw the ball on time to first after a swinging strike on a wild pitch and the batters cn reach safely.
The dilemma here is whether the ball touched a part of the ground (which i think it did not and im a white sox fan) HOWEVER its um to the umpires discretion to determine whether the ball touched the ground or not
Uggh Omar, yes that is the basic rule. But that's not what was called. When the umpire clenches his fist, that indicates that not only it is strike three, but also that the catcher caught the ball, completing the putout. You post ignores the fact that the umpire clenched his fist after calling strike three.
So then Alex H explain the excuse the umpires gave Mike Socia when Mike clearly indicated the "pumped fist" call, what could the umpires possibly have been telling him? My thinking is that they were telling him the Pump fist just meant strikeout but not necessarily indicating a clean catch. What do you think they told him?
And my post doesn't ignore the pumped fist call. I said he *struck out* but the catcher never threw to first.
Watching it again that’s exactly what it is, when AJ turned briefly he saw the right arm extended indicating a pass/dropped 3rd strike and immediately took off. The Ump kind of panicked thinking he missed it at that point and let AJ’s confusion dictate his action.
The ump after the extended arm then did the fist-out-signal, which means that AJ is out.
This still haunts me.
Angels haven’t recovered since
Greg Gibson would have motioned to both players
Exactly
And the Dodgers would’ve been celebrating because they are in the nl
@@cadenr06 enough with Greg Gibson
This really killed the Angels... Well, that and the three games after that where they refused to hit 😂😂😂
If they go up 2 - 0 who knows what happens... probably the worst call of all time
@@Burg_38 Definitely the worst call in Angels history. They haven't done anything of any significance since this year either. This call has cursed them.
@@andrewscasualmtb They made the ALCS in 2009.
I'd like to hear the calls from Jon Miller & Joe Morgan on ESPN Radio and from Rory Markas & Terry Smith on Angels Radio.
It did hit the ground
Here's the problem: Umpires are either "pointers" or "hammers" in the manner that they call strikes. Doug Eddings, the plate umpire, is a hammer guy. His normal strike mechanic is to make a hammer, the identical signal that the umpire makes when calling a runner out. (NOTE: All umpires at professional umpire schools are required to be hammer guys, by the way) So, when manager, Mike Scioscia, keeps gesturing with his fist and saying, "You called him out!" I'm sure Doug Eddings explained that he was simply calling the pitch a strike.
Having said that, if you watch it closely, Doug Eddings first extends his arm parallel to the ground PRIOR to giving his hammer gesture. What was THAT supposed to mean? I think Eddings was actually signaling a swinging strike and then followed it up with what he actually intended to be an OUT call, not a STRIKE call. Then, when A.J. Pierzynski (the batter) took off running, Eddings was probably thinking, "Hmm - maybe the catcher didn't catch that. Certainly, the batter didn't think he caught it. Maybe he didn't catch it" and, sadly (for the Angels) he went with that.
This all happened before video review. Today, this would have been easily fixed; although, I have to say, it's not 100% clear that the catcher caught the ball cleanly.
Watching it again that’s exactly what it is, when AJ turned briefly he saw the right arm extended indicating a pass/dropped 3rd strike and immediately took off. The Ump kind of panicked thinking he missed it at that point and let AJ’s confusion dictate his action.
On a dropped third strike you never make a “hammer” motion until the out has actually been recorded. The umpire called him out, but AJ’s reaction seemed to convince him he missed the call so he pretended he didn’t. In reality he had the call right the first time, and should have had the backbone to stick to his conviction.
If only instant replay occured in 2005....
TheHaloRed If only Josh Paul tags AJ Pierzynski or throw it to first base instead of rolling the ball towards the pitcher's mound.
+joesakic91 Paul didn't have to. He clearly caught the ball. The ump (Eddings) didn't say shit.
TheHaloRed So? Josh Paul still has to tag A.J. Pierzynski out or throw it to first base to complete the strikeout just in case.
No, he does not. The ball wasn't trapped, and the ump raised his arm and called Pierzynski out. Sure, Paul could have tagged in case, but he didn't have to. If instant replay occurred back then, the call would have been reversed based on MLB rules, the runner would be out, and the inning over. BTW, if it was that simple, then why did the umps have to waste time and have a conference about it?
TheHaloRed Instant replay or not, Josh Paul should've tagged out A.J. Pierzynski or throw it to first base just in case.
Rules 6.05 and 6.09 of the Official Baseball Rules
On an uncaught third strike with no runner on first base or with two outs, the batter immediately becomes a runner. The strike is called, but the umpire does not call the batter out. The umpire may also actively signal that there is "no catch" of the pitch. The batter may then attempt to reach first base and must be tagged or forced out. With two outs and the bases loaded, the catcher who fails to catch the third strike may, upon picking up the ball, step on home plate for a force-out or make a throw to any other base in an effort to force out a runner.
Paul made the mistake and it cost the Angels.
Mike Scoscia puts up a good argument but, as a former catcher himself, he knows the battle was lost due to inattention or carelessness on the part of his own catcher Josh Paul. Always, ALWAYS tag the batter or throw to first on Strike Three if its a borderline ball in the dirt, whether you caught it cleanly it or not.
The umpire clearly called him out both verbally and visually. Despite the fairy tale they wanted to sell you at the time, umpires do not call an out on a dropped third strike and never have. They call strike three but do not call the out until the out is actually registered by either tagging or throwing the runner out. Once an out is called the play is over, period.
Watch the replay; Josh Paul was already on his way to the dugout when Eddings made the call. He was gone before AJ was, doubtful long enough to see or hear any call. Regardless, I agree with your point but all it would have taken to resolve the issue was for the umps to motion to AJ to get back in the dugout. Essentially, AJ called their bluff by running to First, and they bought it.
Wow, watching this just now for the first time since 2005, I have to wonder: Was Josh Paul on his way to microwave a pizza between innings? He was almost to the dugout steps before he realized something was going on behind him. Careless move on his part.
if he KNOWS that he caught the ball he does not need to tag the player, that was just a dirty play from a dirty player
MANCHESTER UNITED soccer is for people without hand’s, the greatest tool on the planet. Keep kicking your ball in a dirt field and act like it’s wonderful.
I'll never forgot how pissed I was. Fucking threw my remote after that game. Umpires have a real knack for fucking the Angels over in the ALCS. Especially in 09
The catcher (Josh Paul) is the Angels current Bench Coach.
Nobody cares.
Being an Angels fan, this play of course makes me upset. I hear often from other Angels fans that this play cost us the series. But, personally I think that's just an excuse. We lost the series 4 games to 1, and we got wiped out in games 3-5. I mean, had we lost the series in game 7 then I would think otherwise. But that's not the case. I think it's obvious that this call did not cost us the series. It shifted momentum in the series sure, but there's no direct correlation with us losing the series.
I have the 2005 DVDs of the white sox championship run and you are absolutely correct (im a White Sox fan by the way).
the analysts in game 5 were saying how the angels offense disappeared. Vlad Guerrero was hitting .110 and had a career post season mark of .190. Your starting pitching was solid, bullpen solid, but essentially the Sox just had everything right in this series, The Sox lost game one because they were just cold and lost the small ball they had all year. we lost game 1 3-2 and those 2 runs both came on groundouts.
Garrett Tylerson We may never really know. Momentum means a lot and heading out of Chicago and back to CA, the Angels certainly would have been in a very different position. The bottom line is there's nothing to do about it now. The Sox were still a very deserving team that year and yes, they won the other games fair and square so it is what it is.
Thank you. I'm a Sox fan and you have no idea how tired I am hearing from Cubs fans how Bartman cost them the World Series. Unless it's a game 7, that's impossible. That's why I'm glad to hear a Angels fan put the responsibility in this case where it belongs. The call was bad yes, but it did NOT cost them the whole LCS. Just like Bartman didn't cost the Cubs.
Yes, the Angels were scary good in 2005 ***** not sure if Angels fans are aware of this but the Sox have always struggled against west coast teams, Oakland and Angels especially. I was more eager to play the Yankees in 2005 than the Angels. You guys had a good season but sort of lost that punch in game 4&5 of the NLDS against the Yankees and it carried over.
I've always said that the 2002 Angels were like the Marlins of 2003, the Cardinals of 2011, or Royals of 2015...they just couldn't be stopped
***** yes! Thanks, didn't. Notice that, I fixed it.
Not a fan of either team, but that was a bad call. Angels got fucked there.
Didn't the Angels bat something like .100 in this series? That my friends is the real reason they lost.
It's just a what if
White Sox championship based off a fluke.
Eddie Zwickl one loss in the post while being 1st all year. Fluke, right....
Herp Derp butthurt angels fan living in lala land. Thats how lol
I was 9 years old when this happen and I always think of it when ever a catcher gets a close one on a strike out haha
The fault of the umpire was that he didn't make the call clearly
Aaron Judge's missed strike three when Christian Vazquez failed to tag him out or throw to first base last night brought me here.
Now the Padres game today makes so much more sense.
Looks like a clean catch to me
Pun intended
It was a clean catch. Why otherwise would the catcher roll the ball toward the mound?
I would’ve shotgunned a beer when this happened but I was a kid so shotgunned a beer now while watching this in lieu of doing it then.
aj pierzinski......one of the smartest to ever play the game..
I agree. Heads up play
*Hated
@@terryv1 He can be both lmao
Rewarding a failure, very smart of the ump 🤦♂️
Being a sox fan, this was the game changer for us. I can only imagine if AJ didn't get that call
We would've beat them in 6 instead of 5. Let's face it. The Sox were in GOD MODE. They swept the defending champions for Pete's sake. Doesn't it behoove anyone to think that they would've overcome an 0-2 hole? And who's to say the White Sox would've lost THIS game? If A.J. was called out(like he SHOULD have LOL), it would've been extra innings. Who's to say we wouldn't have won it then and there?
No matter what happened...as a sox fan, AJ is a smart player. He’s the type that you love to have on your team but just gets under your skin as an opponent. I miss the small ball Sox. Here’s to baseball returning after Coronavirus 🙌
@@aggressiveattitudeera887 No doubt about that. But having played baseball for almost my entire life, I understand that baseball is one massive RNG or Random Number Generator. Video game speak for uncontrollable factors that could affect outcomes.
The 12 year old in me is still hurting
34 year old me is still hurting.
I don't think most people understand how horrendous this call was. Momentum was on the Angels side and they were likely going to win this game and take a 2-0 stranglehold on the series. They were never the same team after they returned to Anaheim and lost the series 4-1.
Good teams overcome bad calls like this. Better teams take advantage.
Almost feels as though 2005 was the last time these two teams were relevant...
Just one more example of the thing that's the MOJOR issue with MLB: The umpires have to make the game about them, and not the players.
Like the announcers said: The catcher's reaction should say it all.
But even if that were not enough, use some common sense here. If the ball HAD hit the dirt, there would have been a dust cloud - especially at the speed a pitched baseball travels.
The Score AM 670 brought me here.
Even if the ball had bounced, the umpire called the batter out. How can the umpire undo his out call when the batter would have been out easily had he not made that call?
He is out. He can still reach base on wild pitch or as you saw in the dirt even with strike 3 out called.
If I ever see AJP in an alley and I'm driving an unmarked, unlicensed car..............no bitterness here
This is the moment that momentum changed for this series. I believe if the Angels get this 3rd out the Angels win the game and the series. But WE WILL NEVER KNOW
lol
@@lilgiltrill What's so "lol" about it? It's true, the Angels had momentum. They just beat the Yankees in the ALDS, and won Game 1 against the Sox, and was leading in this game. Looks like you don't know the game, do you? Didn't think so.
@@TheHaloRedThe Angels were still going to lose those 3 games at home. Excuses
Maybe I need to check the rule book again but I thought when the there is a drop 3rd the Home plate umpire doesn't give the punch out signal? Because he does in this clip.
Incorrect. The strike out is called but he reaches on the error/wild pitch/in the dirt. I can name 500 reasons this is in the book.
The umpire usually says no catch
I'm a huge Angels fan (hence my name), but thats Josh Paul's fault. He needs to either throw to first or tag Pierzynski out. I'm not blaming Eddings on that at all. Also, did anyone else notice how young Scioscia looks? Also, I love the fact that they were talking about the need for instant replay, which is still debated today.
angelsfancrc1 : It's totally the ump's fault, because he was influenced by AJ's desperate move to convince him that it hit the dirt. That's a d-bag ump.
How could you ever blame the catcher here? Why would he ever feel the need to tag A.J. if he made a clean catch? Lol and A.J looked and waited till Paul threw the ball back to take off running SO he couldn't tag or throw him...cmon man lol
@@seankiesling2054 Catchers may just throw or tag to play it safe. From the replay, I am not sure whether the ball actually hit the dirt or now, but close enough to be uncomfortable.
The HP umpire should have raised his fist (which he did) to indicate a strike. If he thought the ball hit the ground he should have given a safe signal to indicate the batter was not out. I did not see a safe call so it appears he thought it was caught. How did it happen that it was decided the pitch was uncaught? Total fail by the umpires.
I guess catchers should just tag on the third strike for every batter
Baseball IQ 101 . Every player knows it is from the umpires eyes. It was questionable from the side view. Without telephoto lens 100 percent not able to see a 95 mph fastball that close. Catcher KNOWS to tag.
If there was only instant replay
Not till 2008.
All Josh Paul had to do was either tag the runner or throw the first.
+Troy Reed Yes but he assumed (which i think he did) he caught the ball cleanly thus no tag was needed.
Buuuut he caught it cleanly. Never touched the ground
lol no way jose
What good catcher DOESN'T throw to first or at least tag the batter on a ball that's as low as this one? Kind of eliminates the ambiguity in a situation like this, now doesn't it. As a catcher himself, AJ spotted the mental lapse on the part of Josh Paul and took advantage of it.
dez caught it.
Smart move even though it was a catch
So many bad calls before Instant Replay - torch the record books before IR
Josh Paul knew he should have atleast tagged him though. Look at how when Paul catches it he almost goes to tag him anyway.
That was garbage that AJ swung at
And? You obviously aren't familiar with the uncaught third strike rule.
This is not so much proof of the need for replay but proof of the need for all umpire gestures to be uniform.
There is a gesture for dropped strike 3's now. That wasn't the case in 2005.
Wow, this is some real BS.
Scioscia should’ve tripped Pierzynski for that stunt when he passed in front of him while being pinch run for. Would’ve served that punk right.
14 years later and this call still bothers me.
All Josh Paul had to do was tag AJ. All of this would have been alleviated
He was very sure he made a clean catch.
Instant replay could have changed the game. At 5 seconds, the ump calls him out. He makes the signal. I remember the post game show when they interviewed him. He kept stuttering.
rockabillylaker Yes but he also motioned to first, meaning that it was a strikeout but also a dropped third strike.
Harrison Cramer Yes but then he makes the fist indicating that the ball was caught or the catcher tagged the runner. He shouldn't have made the fist if he thought the ball hit the ground.
Smart by A.J. Pretty sure nobody else in the ballpark thought that would happen. That's a combination of smarts by A.J., incompetence by the umpires, and whining by the Angels.
Well what did you expect? The ump to say "Oops I screwed up the call is changed." Wasn't gonna happen. This was before replay even became a topic. The call was gonna stand no matter what.
No the umps the year before
Jeffrey Loll Are you kidding me? The ball clearly short hops the glove. You must be an Angels fan. Apart or all of the ball CLEARLY gets the ground. Paul ran into the dugout immediately regardless of what the home plate umpire did, so it's rather irrelevant. You always tag the runner on anything close as a catcher. 100% on Paul. Ball clearly hits the ground on the slow motion replay. End of story. White Sox pounded the Angels the next three anyway.
Are you fucking stupid? Shows how much of a douchebag AJ is. Whining? What the fuck do you expect? It was the third out and they knew it. So they were just supposed to let them take away the 3rd out in a crucial game? Dumbass
And to the idiot saying the ball clearly hit the ground..you need to go get your eyes checked because they clearly don't fucking work.
He stole 1st. :p
I wish Pierzynski could have worked out in Boston.
He did come in a bit overweight. He should have def worked out
The Angels got f***ed here. That said, I was happy to see the White Sox have that run. I hope they find success again.....that it's not another 88-year drought.
MLB didn't post this until 9 years after the fact. They know how huge this missed call was.
Josh Paul was the one who made the bonehead play. He should've tagged A.J. Pierzynski out or throw it to first base to make sure it was a strikeout, but he didn't.
That's true, as a catcher if its close you should tag the batter just in case
Victory Arceus It looked like Josh Paul was about to, but instead, he scooped it up, rolled the ball back to the mound and ran into the dugout not realizing that A.J. Pierzynski wasn't tagged out or Paul threw the ball to first base to complete the strikeout.
+joesakic91 Blue called him out, that should be the end of the story. However, tag him, and then there's no question.
ilovebrandnewcarpets Either tag A.J. Pierzynski or throw it to first base to complete the strikeout and Josh Paul didn't do that.
That snowballed for the Angels.
+joesakic91 About time somebody brought that up. If Paul just throws the ball to 1st, none of this matters.
All you complaining about a bad call and that it cost the Angel's a trip to the ws always fail to mention that the series went back to LA and the Sox starters pitched three straight complete games after this and dominated the angels. The better team won the series. And the championship.
It didn't cost a trip to the ws , because obviously more games to play , but it killed out momentum. Just don't like to see games influenced by bad decisions. I say decisions because the ump called him out , then changed his mind.
Greatest moment in White Sox history.
This still haunts me as an Angels fan.
And well... Ozzie Guillén remains the only World Series-winning Latino manager. THE ONLY ONE.
Ernesto González Alex Cora??
He probably wrote this before the Red Sox won the world series.
I am a huge Sox fan. That said Ozzie was made to behave that year. He was on best behavior. Next year..wow. What a crazy guy. Or as in the movie...You are a funny guy. Sox were tired of his shat. Exit stage left.
Bad call yes? Great job by Douchezynski? Absolutely. Better team won the series Halo fans...
Stay classy.
Horrible call but it probably wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the series.
... and since this day catchers have had to throw to 1st to record the strikeout when the batter swing's at strike 3 in the dirt.
Yep! this one cost them the game, the momentum, and a trip to the World Series.... naturally, I dreaded it when he was an announcer in the Red Sox Series
How did this 100% cost them the world series? They could have lost the game in extras, and the Sox showed dominance in the next 3 games. This was a momentum shifter, but the game could've gone either way in extra innings
Definitely one of my favorite white sox moments of all time
We still boo him to this day lol
And he LOVED That! Just fueling his fire
Will forever hate this man.
The Angels really should have protested this game. I can't imagine the umpire's excuse for signaling out and then letting Pierzynski go to first.
He was out. He reached on error type situation per the rule.
This was absolutely the correct call. If you watch it repeatedly, you will see that it made a small hop off the ground (bop bop) just at the end, up into the catcher's glove. Interestingly if you play the video backward, it is much easier to detect visually.
You're hallucinating. Lay off the drugs. But also not surprising coming from a White Sox fan.
@@Setzer777 Nope not on drugs. Watch the slow mo at :40 seconds at .25 playback. It clearly hits the ground and bounces off the ground up into his glove. The fact the it bounces up can not be disputed. You could argue that his glove was under the ball and it was bouncing off of that and then up but in watching the amount of webbing in his glove as he goes to catch the ball, I think the is unlikely.
I’m a Braves fan, and watching this, it looks like the ball DID hit the ground
Critics of the umpires in this series can scream and cry all they want. But the fact remains that the Angels lost three more games afterward and if this call had been right, all that would have happened is that the game would have been tied going into extra innings. This call did not cost the Angels the ALCS.
Even Joe Garagiola (a catcher himself) watches the replay and makes the commentary that that's a third strike as the catcher caught the ball! Listen to the commentator's (sounds like Joe G again) statement at 2:11...he is saying the same after watching the slow mo.
That's not Joe Garagiola… that's Lou Piniella
It's Tim McCarver, who was the starting catcher in 1,300 MLB games.
200iq play
robbed.
White Sox clearly cheated to win this game
Go A.J. go go haha Whitesox baby Whitesox!
Clark kent go sox!!
Greatest postseason moment for the WSOX in their history
Has to be the worst call in the history of Major League ball
One of the dumbest calls in history.
It wasnt that dumb, it was a clean catch, but i could see how umpire could make a mistake since the ball was so close to touching the ground.
This is why I hate umpires. What a dick move. He clearly made the out call through motion. Then, he had the audacity to say he didn't make the call. If I was that bad at my job, I'd be fired.
A.J Pierzynski hit the ball and it was foul but, he was not tagged out from the catcher Josh Paul. So he was safe. And I have a movie about when that happened and I heard the ball and also I have a book about when that happened. And I'm also a White Sox fan.
If you hit a ball foul, the at bat continues.
gameaddict51 He didn't a foul ball, he struck out
Sal Atteo And where did I deny that fact? SoxRule2015 was saying he hit the ball foul. But wasn't tagged by the catcher. So he's assuming hitting the ball foul (in some way besides a bunt) can also strike you out. He didn't hit it foul. But if he did, the at bat would have continued.
When the catcher dropped the ball and the batter swung like A.J Pierzynsky did. And he heard the ball hit on strike 3 so he ran.
It's called dropped 3rd strike
A.J. Pierzynski is my fucking hero. This play to me is the reason that the White Sox won the world series. It just broke the Angles in two.
Oldstuff Man Angles? Well, I guess you could say they were playing in 60 degree weather.
Oldstuff Man Not an Angels fan, but fuck you. That was a bad call and you know it. If it weren't for that, you guys wouldn't have won the series let alone the World Series.
Oldstuff Man That's not what you're implying by calling Pierzynski your "hero."
that's exactly what I'm implying.. or are you stupid? superherofan24
Oldstuff Man Lets not get crazy with the "Sox wouldn't have won that series" assumption. The Sox dominated that entire postseason, hence losing only the one game. Even here it was still tied 1-1. Was it a bad call? Fuck yeah it was. Do I think it determined the outcome of the game? In a way, yes, because the Angels were probably super pissed which is why Crede drove him in. But as a professional team you have to put it behind you, especially in the playoffs. Do I think it affected in the slightest the outcome of the series? Absolutely the fuck not. Sox would have won that series regardless.
Let's go White Sox!
Im a Detroiter and like most in AL Central know what clown he is. Ball did NOT hurt dirt. Would at least think get the title of this clip by now. Lol. He could have reached second if was so sure also.
Did he drop it though?
From all the replays ive seen, if I had to make the call, the ball did not touch the ground
it was a good call. if they showed the zoomed in view like they did after the game you can see it barely it the ground
Yeah it hit the ground but aj still did swing at it. La got fucked
Yes, but the ump needed make it clear what the call was.
it doesn't matter if he swung, the ball hit the ground
It must be horrible having to ne the umpire to figure you made a huge dumbass call, and trying to convince the manager.
AJ is a punk
Keep crying
It touched the ground but it was hard to see even with the cameras. Can’t blame Aj for trying, can’t blame the angels for thinking it was caught, and can’t blame the umpires for being fooled by an almost great pitch
Why didnt josh paul simply tag aj pierzynski? WHY?!?!?😭
That was such be .. Angels got screwed
Good thing they bounced back and won the game in extras lol
@@trevar1317 No they did not, the White Sox won the game in the 9th Inning and won the next 3 games to go to the World Series.
@@billycausgrove9657 yeah ik I was just making a joke. I was trying to make the point that the Angels still had plenty of chances to win
Billy Causgrove woosh
Aj cheating at his finest
Um, that's not cheating from AJ Pierzynski. That's just great heads up baserunning. Angels catcher Josh Paul should've just tagged him out or throw the ball to first to complete the strikeout, but he didn't.
@@joesakic91 why would the the Angels catcher tag him when it was clear as day that it didn’t hit the ground?
@@snowboarddude77s For good measure and just in case the home plate umpire didn't officially call a strikeout.
Go look it up in the official MLB rule book.
typical A.J. Pierzynski driving people crazy! LOL!
Angels go all the way if It wasn't for the crap umpiring
Yes, because all 23 runs scored by the White Sox were a result of bad umpiring. We beat Socia and the Angels' asses in 05
tits your 05 season is a fucking fluke. Baseball is heavily dictated by momentum, and if that call is made correctly, we take that game, and I highly doubt the rest of the games go the same way they did. Your ass team got hot that year alone off a gift call, whereas the angels were one of the best teams of the 2000's and might've taken it all that year instead of constantly running into and falling to juggernaut Yankee/redsox teams the following years.
Eddie Zwickl you're a fucking idiot
It's true 😁
+Eddie Zwickl you act as if aj was the tying run. the game was tied genius and who knows who would have won in extra innings.
Dumb call.
There have been many baseball highlight reels, but if they ever make a baseball lowlight reel (i.e. the sport's crappiest moments) this call belongs near the top of it.
I'm still triggered
WAAAAH
Ever since this happened the Sox have only made it to the playoffs twice in 2008 and 2020 ....so apparently they need umps to help them win...it's not like they don't need the help
The Sox only lost 1 game in the 05 playoffs... your argument is BS. My White Sox will be in the World Series again very soon. Stay tuned pal 😂
@@damiancastillo8184still waiting lmao
it hit the ground
Hallking78 look at the side angle
Tough call and I have to agree, I never saw it hit the ground either.
From every single angle shown here, I think the ball didn't hit the ground.
He still swung....
@Hallking78 0:56
Worst call in MLB history-this call and missed others were the other reasons why the White Sox won this series-Doug Eddings should have been fired after this blown call
***** "As Sox fan know"-way to use proper English-it wasn't just this call but there were otters in the series as well that gave the Sox 4 outs in an inning
Such as...... ?
Game 3-Posednik is picked off at first, would have been out number three, he is called safe, Sox get runs, Game 4-AJ interferes with the catcher while he is at bat, Sox player is allowed to steal second, Game 5-interference is called on Angels for the exact same thing AJ did game 4-each time giving the Sox an advantage-thank goodness for them there was no replay back then
All these bad calls are the reason the Angels batted, what, .100 in the series? Or .150? Embarassing.
Worst call in MLB history? Where were you on June 2nd, 2010?
AJ also left the batter box. That also would mean he's out. Astros stole signs in 2017. White Sox stole the world series from the Angels and Astros(who weren't going to win either way)
Ok... Now say it without crying! The Sox lost only 1 game in the 05 playoffs... try again buddy! GO SOX!!!
@@damiancastillo8184
Not crying. Cheating is cheating. They get their ring. Cubs got theirs. 11 years later. Even if the white sox win in the next 6 years. They still won't be the #1 team in Chicago. They'll be still below the wnba team. 🤣
@@mizztery2994
The HP umpire literally but his right up. That would mean he was out .game over.
@@mizztery2994
He was out regardless of leaving the box. He was called out. End of story. I get you're either still living on a 2005 WS win. Or you weren't born yet and watched highlights. I'll go with the latter
