Thank You for the update on the camera system and the honest reviews that you do. Stay safe my friend and may God Bless you and your family.
I hadn't thought of placing the antenna like you did. I'm going to move mine asap! Thanks for great advice as always!
Nice review of this system, glad this fixed the problem I was a little hesitant on getting this product but now I will for sure. Thanks for the honest reviews. Keep up the good work...Big Truck
Thanks for the update! I am ordering the Haloview for my new Rockwood now, so I will now be aware of this potential problem since I tow with a Ford Expedition.
Used my Haloview first time Saturday. Signal was great when test fitting at home. First half of trip had monitor on dash with antenna upright. Constant 1 or 2 bars with it dropping signal all together a fair bit. Later that day I tested it hanging from rear view mirror. This required the antenna folded down and facing forward. Oddly got 3 or 4 bars most of the time like this with just a hand full of times of total signal loss.
Thanks for the update on the camera. I'm still a little jealous of the lucky buyer of that unit, but I'll try to get one next year.
Interesting solution to an interesting problem. I hope, you've communicated what you've done to the folks at HaloView, so they (and other purchasers) don't have to go through all that work. Good job! Be safe!
I love Ford's super duties and yours is beautiful
Great system and glad it works right now. But Why in the world would they put the antennae connections on the top? Now you have to deal with looking through or around that mess. I want as much visibility as possible.
Heading out Saturday for very first trip with 37 footer. Got it from dealer to drive way ok. First time pulling a fifth wheel. Back up camera came with , factory. Spose I should see if it works. 😁
Wow nice I love yr RV
Nice combination
I am a new subscriber I was sent by Julian Silva watched some of your vids and love them👍
Prob my fave vid of yours! We have the same issue with our camera system. I found that while stationary, the picture as pretty clear but would get unusable once on the road. I have a 2018 F-150. Will try to look for an extension antenna for our setup.
I think it's funny for me I love watching your videos and all yet I own no trucks or rvs just a tiny car and in my opinion you got a perfect voice for radio
This totally resolved my issue, thank you!
Nice truck
Thank you so much for doing this video! I have a furrion camera and the reception is terrible. I'm wondering if it uses the same kind of antenna so I can do the same thing.
Watching your into I recognized the road you were driving on in my home town small world
I really appreciate that you have the ability too have made the upgrade's too you're RV, I don't think you will recover the cost's when selling, seem's RV's don't hold value for very long. I don't have a newer truck (2003 Ford F-350) with all the display's and I've added a Edge SCT2 monitor and soon want too add a double DIN stereo, but at what point is there just too much going on in the cab of the truck?? So many screen's too glance at, can you do a video on all of the things you monitor while towing?? As always great video, and it is nice too hear that the manufacture stepped up with a solution.
Still want to know if that goose box let's you turn 90° or close to it 😁
I have a new 350 and a Tadi Brothers camera. No range problem. Could be the brand that you used.
I got nearly the same setup as you with my 37 foot toy hauler and I kept getting no signal on the Haloview 35% of the time it was on. I mounted the camera very high with antenna above the roof with still poor signal. I was about to return it to Amazon but I will contact the manufacturer and see if they can get me that antenna. Thanks bud!
Ray Paul, just curious as to how you came up with your figure of 35%?
Open range 337rls is a really well thought rv in my opinion
I'd be curious to get your take or review on the different trailer towing cameras (CHSMA) and trailer assist packages that Ford offers now. I'm wondering if they are worth the money.
Hmmmm, I wonder if the steel roof might actually reflect and "tunnel" the signal to the camera??? Let us know how it works outside the covered enclosure.
Mine worked like that originally under a pole barn, but on the road it was 1 to no bars, until I moved transmitter forward. Pull out before you assume ok.......
The cover you have the 5er parked under will bounce the signal to your truck...mine works well in the barn, under overpasses or when a big rig passes. Other wise it's sketchy. Even with an antenna extension on the roof of the truck. How does yours work on open highways at speed?
So this setup looks almost identical to similar RC airplane "first person view" setups. One thing you can do to increase the range is to adjust your antenna angles. The antennas send out power in a donut type shape, and your camera's donut is pointing in the wrong direction. It's pointed forwards and up and downwards and back. So you're really not getting much power towards the cab of your truck. Also, when a display has two antenna, typically that's for a built-in RSSI (receiver signal strength indicator) that will smart-swap between two receivers. So if you have a highly directional antenna and an omni-directional antenna, then you can get the best of both worlds.
Didn't know about the problem with the aluminum body caused. Now I can fix mine.
Cool review video. Glad you got a fix for reception issue. QUESTION What is a Builtrite rack? Thanks.
Greg
George Norcross it’s in one of his earlier videos.
Does the monitor come with a hard wire option as well as the cigarette lighter option? Thinking about upgrading my current camera system. However, I prefer hidden wires and the use of an upfitter switch.
Now that you had installed for a few, how is the signal on the road?
It is good you put the antenna on the back window of the truck. RF signals do not penetrate or go thru metal. It is reflected. This is a big factor in my job as a RF performance engineer for a large communications company. So the less metal between the camera and monitor the better.
Thank you.
Nice setup but can the camera work while driving down the road forward? I'm looking to put a camera in my horse trailer with lq.there are alot of different options and alot of different reviews. Thanks
wouldn't it have been easier and cleaner to simply to hook up the trailer back up camera to the onboard computer screen and remove the one that faces the hitch? simply use the cargo camera to line up the gooseball the best you can? back up camera on the trailer is really nice though, i hope RAM integrates this into their 2020 ram HDs.
Did you try a Furrion vision S? If so did you have a range problem with it?
Also, I love the F-350/450 DRW design MUCH better than competitors! Came through really well in this vid. Love the way they block off the DRW well versus the older smooth look that was on the Fords and is also currently on the RAM and GM trucks. I hate the Ram's fat a$$ look lol.
Any idea if that camera can sit in the Furrion camera prep package that's found on a lot of RVs?
Has there been a 100k video? I thought there was gonna be a special video
In the state of Maryland they ticket you if you have that monitor placed like you did.
BUDDY LIGHT, he's a Texan, that's the land of the free
When you plug the camera in, doesn't it take up the only 12V outlet that you use for TPMS? I wonder if it is possible to add an aftermarket 12V outlet on top of the dash or under the built right rack to plug the camera into
Brandon: I have other 12v outlets, that was thr closest for the video.
About "rear view"... Finally went with "top of image is horizon." This made bottom of image ~8' behind TH door. I can see the face of a person when they are two feet behind the toy hauler. It's like a rear view mirror... More natural.
How does the colors look on screen? I have a wired type and everything green looks purple on the monitor. I've tried different monitors and cameras. I think my problem is cheap cameras.
When you're pulling your rig is there any buffering?
I just installed t rear camera on our TT and aour signal would go from 1 bar to 2 then 4 then none and screen turns blue ( no picture). I too have a 2016 F-150 alum body so I am going to make a bracket for rear window and run my extended antenna and see if that solves the problem. If it solves it I will let you know.
Any idea what the stock LB7 2002 tow rating is? Looking to get a fifth wheel.
backup cameras are powered by the auxiliary lights… most of the time, people don’t turn on the parking lights because they are on “auto” or driving during the day… turn the parking lights on and your camera will work fine… most go out to 100-200 feet
Your under the cover of the storage with the camera the metal will reflect the signal and give you stronger signal
that would be true if it were directing the signal, at the same Ohm directly back to the video monitor in the truck. best possible scenario is that its relfecting and then diversifying the signal back much weaker.
Poor reception until I added cabled antennas. One antenna is under the tow bar, and the other under the rear frame of the 5er TH. LINE OF SIGHT BETWEEN ANTENNA'S makes all the difference.
I use the rear view system and when I am driving my monitoring cameras stop transmitting I figured it is static buildup
I was thinking on building a static dissipator like the ones used on small aircraft. Looks like a spiky brush made of copper.
We have a perimeter view rv camera that was already installed on the camper. We recently got a new truck and now each time we start our truck the picture goes away. What would cause this interference??
Should of extended the camera antenna closer to the front of the rv trailer for the best and clearest signal and with no other camera interference.
Hi
I tried this and it didn't work. i am thinking the metaled window film is my iffy and the antenna really needs to be outside of the truck. I am also thinking that line of sight is another issue. Still exploring options.
They wouldn’t send me an antenna. I purchased one and put it on the outside back part of the truck roof (2015 Silverado) and still doesn’t work. That was on my 26’ TT. Now have a 42’ 5th wheel so I am looking for something better.
I know this is a couple years old but you would think the manufacturers of these cameras would use better antennas and maybe even boosted systems !
Had to move my rear cam transmitter on my 40 Grand Design 5th wheel 25 ft forward and the antenna 10 ft forward. Now I have a great signal in the cab. Also used a 13.7 v source instead of 12.1 v.
Can work on your RV at your storage yard that's a good deal
What is the main frequency for wireless back up cameras? Anyone know? Thanks
Aluminum; steel; platinum, doesn't matter what metal your body panels are. They will block part of your signal.
Like a home, you never get back what you put into them.
You mean, Unlike a home. sticks and bricks go up in value or you're doing something really wrong.
You must live in a depressed area. Here in Napa County the yield is huge.
Mark Reynolds, not sure where you live that you're losing money on your homes but I'd suggest you try a different location
Drive down the road, then lets see
Hey is there anyway I can contact you like email or something besides here I have a few question I wana ask about the new trucks thanks
sure. BigTruckBigRV@Gmail.com
Happy that all your add-on accessories are working well. How many more months will it be until you actually take your rig out on the road? Seriously, what is your style of camping/glamping? Do you and your family do the resort $100+ per night pull through Texas resort spots? Have you ever taken your rig out of state (aka Texas) and/or spend any time dry camping/boondocking on BLM land? Why do you spend so much money on your rig when you seem to travel no where outside your comfort zone? And now you are focussed on selecting the ultimate SUV for your wife? Everyone wants to buy the safest vehicle for their family to travel in that they can afford, but you go beyond safety and are looking the for the uber vehicle. Seriously, do you ever take your BIG TRUCK BIG RV out of storage and travel the country?
I've said it several times. We take our RV out about 12 times a year on 3-4 night trips. We have left the state several times. When RVing, I generally don't film anything (except for a few times) because I consider it family time. We have been out 3 times in the last 2 months. We don't usually go to BLM land and tend to prefer RV parks with full hookups and try to spend under $40per night max (except for a few specific trips). We have boondocked and drycamped several times around the state and in other states. The upgrades to the rig are to promote a safe, more convenient and stress free towing experience, and overall, they aren't super expensive upgrades (especially when I perform the installation myself). CZcams gives you a glimpse into my RV/Truck life but definitely not the entire picture. Thanks for commenting sir
