    What defines grammatical gender, in Welsh, for inanimate objects? Is a historical thing or there rules? In French spelling is a big determiner of grammatical gender, if a noun with an 'e' then there is an 80% chance that noun will feminine.

      Spelling helps in Welsh. But not always. More by category of word types.
