Proshipping is SUCH a hard topic to talk about especially with how different everyone who proships is but you genuinely explained everything so well. Also im so greatful someone is finally talkinabout how people should focus on actual abusers instead since i literally see almost no one talking about that 😭 and like despite how nasty is find proshipping and all that kind of stuff actual abusers and groomers are what people seriously have to worry about
Thing is, proshipping helps groomers as their content can be used to normalize gross behavior. We can worry about proshipping and groomers at the same time while knowing one is far worse than the other.
The proship community is quite often a gateway for many minors to meet groomers and abusers so it is important to address the issue of the proship community when addressing the issue of groomers and abusers online

i personally think adult proshipping spaces and minor spaces should be strictly seperate. minors shouldn't seek out proship content and proshippers shouldn't be advertising to children. most proshippers ive met are adults who are just in their own corner of the internet, so i was quite surprised they would be advertising to children. it's quite disturbing but i'm pretty sure those kinds of proshippers are actual dangerous people trying to hide behind the identity of a proshipper, these kinds of people should not be around kids at all. however there are a lot of proshipper creators who have 18+ accounts that minors also specifically find their accounts to harass/attack, even though they have "proship dni" in their bios. this argument is very complicated to approach when both sides can have wildly varying levels of understanding of the topic, especially when one side is more likely to include minors in it. i think both sides should be very careful with handling the other, so as to not start hate campaigns/arguments. minors shouldnt be in proship spaces at all though, thats something that shocked me a lot.
I, yes am a shipper. I do not pro-ship, as its completely disgusting and weird. I do like shipping characters, but there is certain criteria that they have to fill to make sure its not either gross, a relation to one of another and pedophilia. There are lots more.
I can understand that "oh it's fictional characters though!!! Its not hurting anyone!" can be argued, but it's still extremely weird and unappealing.

okay, my take, as someone who has been around both sides a LOT is, judge individuals, not the term! the term proship stems from the large umbrella term profiction, which is literally just a term being against censorship, all sorts of media being allowed. i am against censorship myself, though i do not use the term proship because of the negative connotations it holds nowadays. i don't think the term is evil or anything. i don't ship really horrible things and make it seem cute, no, i don't personally do that. some people do and i have boundaries that i don't want to interact with those individuals. i just don't find it pleasant, but i won't go out of my way to go after them for it if they aren't posting it publically. everyone has different morals, including proshippers. not every proshipper, ESPECIALLY people using the label to push back against the bad rep, are bad from my experience. i judge on an individual basis, not group. that goes for literally anything else that is obviously morally gray, i just take a step back and think for myself. smartest thing to do, i feel. i am an adult, by the way! 18 years old, so i believe i have a reasonable say in all this. minors safety over anything.

I won’t get into details, but I was aware of how wrong it was, and I’m very lucky I saw through it. Some kids might not have the same level of understanding as I did. As a proshipper I definitely believe it’s a very important distinction to make that you don’t support any of that stuff irl. Generally… I don’t think it’s okay at all to post stuff like that, romanticized or not, without putting warnings and posting it in a space where minors won’t just stumble across it. One of the many reasons I, as a proshipper, dislike other proshippers is because many of them post very NSFW things on platforms full of children (like TikTok)

Tbh I fully understand you when it comes to trauma and making things themed around it. I have a eating disorder, I barely eat if at all. Due to past issues with food. A fear of food I guess is a better term. But w lot of my ocs love food , and enjoy eating. A lot of times I get nervous showing that in my characters. Afraid people might assume I have a fat obsession. Even though none of them are over wight. It helps me cope with my own anxiety of food and eating/getting sick after eating.

I am a minor and I have some trauma from being adopted.. I also do art I do draw violent stuff when angry or extremely sad or depressed. I also use art to a scape from reality one reason why music helps some people it soothing and can help with emotions depending on what you listen to.. Kijji I totally agree on pro shipping being horrible luckily I’ve never seen it. But this video is very very very helpful thank you so much for making it. Also keep up the awesome work

I've luckily never encountered a creepy pro-shipper in fandom spaces but I've seen alot of people get harassed for ships that aren't even that problematic(think bakudeku). I hate seeing people harassed, it never helps to harass and bully people, even if they have done bad things 9 times out of 10 they just double down on it when that happens.

this is,, an exceptionally weird topic for an animal jam channel but at the end of the day kids should know this is a problem too.
i want to point out that its not just kids "stumbling across" pro-ship its often adults taking advantage of them and showing it to them directly. they like being sneaky about it like at first just sending a photo of a sfw drawing of the ship and saying "haha me n you" and it can eventually devolve into straight up nsfw.
proship is used by minors too, minors do make proship content most of the time because they have been coerced into it and now see it as normal or have developed a k/nk for it.
predators do target mentally ill/at risk people too, minor or otherwise you can still groom an adult, those mostly being disabled, being an adult doesnt automatically mean you know everything especially if you are from a disfunctional household where maybe you werent taught everything you were supposed to in a way you could understand.
proship also severely intertwined with nsfw and a child cant meaningly tell the difference between something they shouldnt be looking at because its for "adults" and something thats morally reprehensive. for years i couldnt see necrop###a as wrong because i was exposed to it way too young and was hiding it from my parents because it was p*rn not realising that it was so much worse than that.
a proshipper can be a kid who is severely mentally ill and pushing them out of every circle because they draw that could just further push them back into their abusers.
you also cannot just post proship without somebody being affected by it. especially building a community on "fictional only" proship content you can never guarantee that you arent just giving a groomer more material to further help normalize a horrible relationship because "hey look, there are plently of people online who think the same". this also bleeds into zoop*ilia, people CAN convince themselves that they dont need to get help for their harmful paraphilias because there is a whole community of people telling them that its ok and completely normal and that their pet is "consenting" if they watch out for the following signs. zoo*iles are also starting to co-opt therians and alterhumanity as a way to justify their sick urges and its absolutely disgusting. it cant be an "intrusive thought" if youre not utterly disgusted by it and actually just fantasize about it.
also im extremely cautious around anybody who is "proship" but "doesnt actually ship anything illegal" because by definition you are giving predators a free pass and not just "dont care" but active support it by identifying yourself with that label. "not caring about others ships" is the most tame way of describing it and i really think that somebody would do more research about a label before identifying themselves with it.

Admittedly the whole flag thing was indeed very wrong of me. I didn’t see my philia as anything harmful since my attraction is towards something not inherently harmful, and I’ve felt it since I was young. HOWEVER, I now realize that representing it in Animal Jam was a pretty horrible idea. While my objectum sexuality may not inherently be something nsfw, because it is a paraphilia, it also is associated with other paraphilias and therefore being open about that in the environment of Animal Jam could lead to kids being endangered. I did something very stupid and selfish! And only after Sam addressed it, I realized why I shouldn’t have done that.
I unfortunately cannot change the fact I did that. But I now know that what I did was bad and know to not share my paraphila in these kinds of spaces. All I can do now is keep moving forward.

I honestly hate proshippers with all my heart.
I can’t stand them and I can’t help but to mock and try to hurt them because it just feels good to do. I always thought that I would never do this to anyone, but when I first encountered a proshipper I actually lost it and I legitimately couldn’t control myself. It’s like I was word vomiting every insult I’ve ever heard in an attempt to hurt them as much as possible, insulting their family, their appearance, their hobbies, literally everything.
I thought “how dare they take something I experienced and turn it into this? What’s wrong with you?”
For years I felt this way and I still do, I’m so unbelievably hateful it’s almost a burning passion.
I am hurt from how this is being so joyfully put online by such young children and creepy adults, I wish they’d just keep it to themselves.
I’ve gone through so much trauma that has completely ruined my life and has left me disabled and so Proshipping feels mocking like someone is saying that what happened to me didn’t matter because it was “sexy” or “hot.” It’s not. I am in so much fucking pain every single day of my life.
Proshipping will never be a valid coping mechanism in my eyes.

I think it’s a lot more complex than simply ‘it’s okay to proship.’ I probably could have spoken on that a lot more but the video was already very long. My point was meant to be more so ‘if it does genuinely help you, then it’s hard for me to judge given I haven’t been there’ and of course I would ALWAYS suggest you seek a therapist, and take their advice. They would know far better than I.

the fact that fiction doesnt effect reality, including actual adults, has been disproven over and over again (many examples, such as jaws kickstarting the widespread fear of sharks and the killing of many out of fear, a very racist movie i refuse to name causing a lot of normalization of racism way back when, bugs bunny causing people to think that carrots are a good sustainable food for rabbits, and more), which is why i think proshipping in 18+ spaces is highly disturbing and should not exist and should be condemned. not even just around minors, just in general. if youre a fullgrown adult and indulge in proship content it usually comes from desires they have themselves unlike traumatized minors creating it to cope with things that happened to them. adults are harder to influence than minors, you are correct, but they can still be influenced to think that people might actually accept these desires and not rightfully condemn them for it (like the people causing active harm that you mentioned. they usually go hand in hand if done by an adult, even if they say that they have no desire for things in real life they still indulge in these desires in fiction, obviously you can depict dark topics in fiction like the things proshippers depict but in a TASTEFUL manner that isnt normalized or romanticized like proship content). no matter what, even if an only 18+ space, it still normalizes these ideas in the minds of the people consuming and creating it and often creates a space for actual predators to indulge in content that reflects their genuine desires, you can never tell on the internet and its too great of a risk for people to post this sort of content, even in adult spaces only. tldr even if its fiction and done in 18+ spaces usually(NOT ALWAYS! some people genuinely dont, but it is INCREDIBLY common.) these things do come from a place of innermost desire of the people creating it and creates a space for pedophiles and other sorts of predators to consume content of this sort! even if it doesnt come from the desire of the person creating it, it still creates content for these people to consume and normalizes it in general.
i do heavily agree that nuance is required when it comes to minors creating proship content though, very much so, as its either a coping mechanism or something the minor was likely groomed into making by adults or a bad online environment. i think that they shouldnt be harassed at all and instead should be encouraged to either stop creating this content if its hurting them and normalizing things in their head or keep it very very private as it puts them at major risk for further manipulation until they have a different way to cope.
this is all coming from someone who LOVES fiction that explores dark topics and am a s/a survivor myself, i think its okay to write these things in a tasteful manner, but no matter what, if it romanticizes and normalizes the subject, especially to minors, it should be condemned. again very good video! this definitely isnt a black and white topic when it comes to minors consuming and creating this content

as a coping mechanism? sure. maybe. but KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. dont share it around becasue then it goes right back to square one, it can start another cycle to be honest, because things shared around dont typically stay in that one area.

Im a proshipper, but i keep it in 18+ spaces, proshippers who involve their ships in animal jam (or other kids games) are disgusting because it can lead children into researching what it is. Ship and let ship in adult spaces, not animal jam.
I may be coming up proshipper but I’m just gonna keep it to myself since people really don’t like weird ass stuff on the Internet though I hate it when they ship like parent and child it’s just disgusting like it’s your child you do not f🦆🦆 kiss and f4#%your child- but I don’t plan on it I just might but if I do oh well, I might stop after a while bc my house burned down in February 2023, and I just can’t get over it though. I have a new house I can’t get over the feeling of all my animals may be dying. That’s why I might become a pro shipper and I’ve been groomed many many times

I personally use it as a coping mechanism. I was groomed and seeing fictional characters who are victimized makes me feel a lot better. I firmly believe that hurting a fictional character is nowhere near the same as hurting a real person. And I understand that for many, proship content is very triggering. HOWEVER, I never intended for that to brought up in the AJ community. I mentioned it to some friends when I was venting, that I lost a friend due to being a proshipper. All I stated was that I was a proshipper. Literally that’s it. Someone asked what it meant so I explained it. I was in a very vulnerable spot, and instead of receiving the support I desperately needed, I was berated, insulted, and sexually harassed.
I don’t post proship art on my socials. I don’t talk about it that openly. The callout post was screenshotted from a vent that I thought would stay private and people targeted me for still having thoughts about my abuser.
I state quite proudly that I am a paraphile. But people assume that it’s the worst. Im not a “map” I’m not a pedophile. I’m not a zoophile. I am an objectophile. I literally just experience attraction to plushies. And instead of people simply asking me, they just shame me for it, eugh. I can’t believe that I have to say this, but MINORS, ANIMALS, AND THE DEAD CANNOT CONSENT!
Also by PEAR I meant exactly what it says. Be yourself. Whatever. Therians, Age Regressors, don’t feel forced to hide that 👍
I’m making the conscious decision to comment. I don’t care about people who wanna argue, or insult me, or tell me that I deserve all of this. Likewise, I’m not gonna debate anyone who supports pedos/zoos/necros.
Admittedly, flag was probably not great… I don’t necessarily think that objectum is something to be… taken as something bad/illegal? I never saw my attraction as something innately sexual, since I mainly just experience nonsexual attraction to objects, and have been experiencing that attraction since a child. But still, I definitely made a pretty bad mistake there. I may not personally believe that my philia is bad, but I should’ve known that being open about that on AJ would have its consequences. No excuse I could fabricate excuses my foolishness. All I can do is take that experience and learn that “ok, it was very damaging for me to express this in this space. Given the opportunity, I would not repeat this behavior.” I really appreciate the ending segment because genuinely… I didn’t think I was doing anything wrong. And I’m sorry about all of that. I didn’t mean to lie about anything or sugarcoat anything- but I don’t at all blame you for feeling betrayed by me because in all honesty the flag thing was… really freaking wrong of me.

i feel like a lotta people dont know what pro or anti actually mean. people think proship automatically means anti harassment which isn't the case.. proship used to be another word for crackship. im an antishipper but im not out here harassing people (actual harassment and not the watered-down version which is just an anti asking for a spoiler tag), yet proshippers usually crosstag on tumblr and break dni boundaries. proshipping just leaves a bad taste in my mouth as a victim who was groomed by proship media. been told that im a "purtian" for asking for a spoiler tag for nsfw of underaged mlp characters. the term censorship also get thrown around a lot, despite censorship being a nuanced topic and comparing antis asking for spoiler tags to right-wingers who want to ban lgbt books in classrooms often gets echoed in these proship spaces. i hate fandom spaces 😅
EDIT: I FORGOT THIS! proshippers are often extremely racist. calling antis "fanpol(ice)" and "fancops" is really dumb. as a black anti, we are not "policing fandom". its gross to compare not liking your hazbin hotel 18+ fanart to actual POLICING..
