UPDATE This video is about us celebrating our 9th year of living in North Carolina.
We discuss the Pros and Cons of living in North Carolina, what our thought process was when we considered the question, should you move to North Carolina?
We looked at the best cities to live in North Carolina. We looked at US Best Places to live, Top 10 places to live in the US, Best reasons to live in the Triangle and many other national lists.
There were a number of factors we considered. The key for us was the strong job market and the many technology companies in the area.
North Carolina, good and bad is what we have embraced. Should you move to North Carolina? Are you a fan of the Blue Devils, the Tarheels, ACC Basketball? Duke vs. North Carolina. These could be reasons for you to live here. We settled on one of the best towns you can live in outside of Raleigh to make our home.
Watch our video and if you are moving to North Carolina, you'll have to make the best decision for you and your family. Good Luck!

So I am from the midwest, 2 hours from Chicago. I LOVE the south but I never had a chance to think about moving there. Well, the other day after I prayed there was a video on youtube about Raliegh, NC being a good place to move for career opportunities. I am looking to begin a new life. Where I am there aren't many opportunities so people are migrating to Phoenix. AZ or Texas. I have been watching your videos and omg Its so informative Thank you so much for the information. I am considering moving to Cary for a safe town to live in and raise my little one. Also for a little bit warmer weather. I hope I I enjoy myself when I come or feel comfortable to the point that I feel I will be making the right choice and if so I will be moving there this 2019! Thank you for you helpful videos.

Stumbled upon your channel as I was doing some research on the pros and cons of North Carolina. I currently live in Northern California. One of my colleagues is retiring to Chocowinity, North Carolina to be exact and she has told me all about North Carolina in general in terms of different cities like Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, the weather, the cost of living (this one is huge for me), the mountains, the beaches, etc. I’m planning to visit North Carolina next year hopefully during the summer and I plan to rent a car and travel to the cities I’ve mentioned and stay in each city a few days to get a feel of the cities. North Carolina is possible place I may consider moving in the future after I finish school because California is just too expensive to be able to live in.

Watched your first video and loved the info. I was happily surprised to see this second video. Me and my family live in Maryland just outside of Baltimore and let me tell you. We are about to just up and leave everything because of how things in this state are going. To be brief. A 180,000 dollar house is more than a 300 thousand dollar house in NC because of our taxes here. Anyways great info and thank you so much. We are looking for more of a quieter setting. More of a mountain kind of atmosphere. Anyways thank you guys for your reviews. It helps tremendously especially when I know nothing about NC. Oh and ps... I dont care what color my neighbors are as long as they work and are respectful people. I know you guys touched on that a little bit in this video. But here in Maryland people on tax payers assistance not government because the government has no money usually live in bigger and better houses than the working folks. Kinda crazy but that's Maryland.

I came across your videos on NC recently. We moved to Apex 4 years ago from Maryland/DC area. Both daughters settled here and we wanted to be closer to them and grandkids. We love it here but it's growing too fast. It seems like every inch of vacant land is being developed and destroying what made this area so attractive. I agree with you that restaurant choices are limited unless you like chains, not! I wouldn't move to DC/MD area unless you want to spend half your life in traffic. The main thing I miss from there is the variety of food choices when dining out. Maybe I'll see you around at Costco!

Lately I have started to question if I can really make the adjustment from living in a big city. I have not given up on moving to Raleigh or the Triangle area, but I would have to do it on a trial basis. Jessica Dufresne it will definitely fit all of those categories for you. Raleigh is starting to get pricey if you want to live close to downtown, but if you don’t mind living out of town you can find a lot of space for cheap. When I made my last comment I was still really homesick as everyone I know is on the west coast, but things are getting better with time and I’m liking it here a lot more.

I moved from Raleigh to to Winston- Salem back in 2011-2014 and it was super dull. I then moved to NY an and came back in 2016 and the city has completely changed. There's more shops, bars and restaurants downtown and our roads are finally getting an upgrade. Traffic has definitely increased here thankfully not as bad as Ral or Charlotte but it is an indication that the city is growing. I'm now looking to move out though because I've been here too long perhaps back to Raleigh, D.C or Charlotte. Nevertheless Winston is a pretty good small city with really cheap rent!

Thank you for the update. We just did a quick swing through over Labor Day weekend. We have visited Raleigh two other times and we really like Wake County for the schools (HS age child) ... it’s great on paper. We also visited Charlotte again and were pleasantly surprised with what the area has to offer but feel torn because we want safety and less congestion. Coming from NY and we just want safe, quiet and bang for the buck. Not excited seeing the prices rising in western wake and don’t want a townhouse.
Do you find the large crowded high schools are a problem?
Was looking at Northern Wake and the Leesville Rd HS and also Wake Forest. Any tips?

    • @HeathandTracyTV
      @HeathandTracyTV  Před 5 lety +1

Apex and Northern Wake are more affordable and have great services. The catch is traffic into RTP and downtown. Check the daily rush hour traffic patterns on the Internet if you are working in either area. Our kids HATE the crowding at the HS. It’s too much, they can’t even walk through the halls between classes without touching shoulders. But as we stated West Cary is getting a new HS in the Fall and that should improve. Apex will also have a new HS. We understand completely about the feel of Charlotte, We would look at Waxhaw if we wanted to be closer to Charlotte. You can still find some affordable homes in West Cary, you may need to look in the older neighborhoods and update the home. We actually think this is a better idea. Older homes are super affordable and you can make it into what you want, the yards are larger and the neighborhoods are more established with most of the services near by. Just another idea. Thanks for watching!

So moving to Raleigh would put us 5hrs away from him verse 14hrs lol. Again my main concern at this point would be to move where there is a good HS for youngest. He is use to a mix student population due to where we live now and small class sizes. Listening to you talk about 3000 in the school just blew me away lol. Do you have any tips to help. Our plan is to rent for about a year so we can find the best area we would love to buy in. My husband and I are in our early and mid 40's so hopefully it's not to boring for us lol. Green Level is a new school that’s just been built and the principal from Green Hope has just moved over there. If you find a place in West Cary, your son will probably be slated for the new Green Level High which would be best case scenario and the way we’d go if we were in your shoes today.

We would stay out of Raleigh right now. It’s changing rapidly. If you want to do Raleigh stay North. Also parts of Durham, if you want to do Durham stay close to Duke and Downtown. Chapel Hill has its spots but nothing too hazardous, their schools are great. Cary is pretty generic too. A few neighborhoods here and there but nothing really bad. Last year my kids and I drove from Florida to Charlotte and we loved it. But I’m more interested in quieter cities.

Greensboro would be quiet or try some of the suburbs of Charlotte.

What are your thoughts on Asheville in regards to diversity and raising children?

We really enjoy Asheville when we visit. Love the vibe; food, live music, sites are cool as are most of the people we encounter. Not a ton of diversity however.

Do you like living in North Carolina more than Georgia.

We like lots of places better than NC but it’s grown on us and been good for our family and careers. Research it, visit and do what’s best for you. More information on our Facebook page, Heath and Tracy Know Carolina. Thanks for watching!

Planning to move to Raleigh from Chicago. Do you think I can buy a single family new construction home (3 beds, 2 bath) around Raleigh area within 300 K? what are the areas you suggest? Thanks.

Jay, it can be done but it depends. Townhomes are less expensive than single family. Durham is a bit less expensive than Raleigh and Cary. You may need to go out to Wake Forest , Garner, or Zebulon to get single family in that range. Call “Carol Small The Realtor”. She is a friend of ours. She can help. Thanks for watching! All the best on your search!
