Our wish has been granted! As of today Pro Tools 2021.10 has integrated Komplete Kontrol transport functions for the S series and M32 keyboards. Pretty cool little present from Avid!

Hey Anton, how did you go with the pro tools midi transport mapping. My S88 is on back order however should have it this month. I really like your videos! I have found ways to make both the Studio and Jam to control Pro tools transport however it is not native so is a little clunky that you need to enter midi mode on the controller to use it. What I do know at this stage is you will need the control editor to do the mapping which the cc's are pasted for pro tools all over the net. I am not sure if the S series work though with the midi mapping controller program Native provide. I will be sure to update. The reality is Avid are arswipes when it comes to compatibility with midi stuff.

Nice thank you. Have you found something how to map the NI Komplete Controll to Pro Tools? That I can handle Mixer, Play, ... over the keyboard as well?

Hi, thank you for watching. I did a midi map template for the NI Machine, but when I looked into this for the S49 the options for mapping were very limited, so I didn’t include it in the video. I have not found a better solution yet, if you do find a good solution in the future please let me know.

Do you know how to configure an MK2 as a DAW / MIDI controller for Pro Tools?

Hi, The only way I know is to change the S88Mkii into Midi Mode, then the MIDI CC automation is recorded in the Pro Tools track. I have Enable Automation Record on in Pro Tools, and I use the Native Instruments Controller Editor to see the MIDI CC numbers for the Dials so that I can set them up as an added Controller view in the track. The way this works for me, is that I select the sound and automation function I want in Plug-in mode on the Keyboard, then change to MIDI Mode on the keyboard whilst I record. Hope that helps.

Good video sir...I can't find a lot of info on the NI keyboards/software running with PT, so this was very informative. I am going to put a new production rig together soon for ITB song creation. My background has been mostly live band production on PT for the last 17 years, so I am hesitant to go to another DAW, even though I know electronic music production has migrated to other platforms and not many people use PT for it at this point apparently. The components I'm considering would be a new imac i9 10 core, apollo twin x, komplete kontrol s61 keyboard with kk 13 ultimate software package (loaded on included ssd), and newest version of PT.
    My questions would be -
    1. Do you think the s61 for example is a decent solution for beat and groove input, or should I also get the maschine mk3 for that task...
    2. Do you think all of the above components will play well together with minimal compatibility/reliability issues (the apollo will be running thunderbolt 3 to the imac)...
    3. I read that the NI keyboards don't map to PT for transport functions for example, is that an issue for you in your workflow...
    4. Is there another cost effective midi controller/interface/virtual instrument software solution that is comparable in quality and plays well with current PT and Mac specs as an option in your opinion...
    5. Do you recommend this type of set-up to be perpetually wired to the internet or is it ok to leave it standalone once everything has been downloaded and is working properly (with an ilok).
The main musical application of this set-up would be pop song arrangements with varying degrees of flavors such as urban, edm, rock, etc. in the songs which I will be producing for a singer/songwriter...only external recording will be vocals and an occasional guitar. Will not be used for DJ or pure EDM production.
Any input you have is much appreciated...I just got done with the first track with her that I did on my existing PT band rig which is on version 10 running on a mac pro osx lion, and a digi 003, and I created it entirely with xpand2 and a stage piano running midi to it lol...needless to say it was super time consuming, and I know I need a major upgrade to be competitive in this type of production.

      Thank you.
      1. I added the Machine mk3, for me I found beat creation was much faster with it.
      2. Should do, I also have the apollo on a separate system, not had any major issues with PT, Apollo and NI.
      3. Your right the NI keyboard transport to PT does not map well. The Machine mk3 does map for transport. Actually it has not been an issue for me, I’m more used to computer keyboard for transport, guess it’s whatever you are a custom to. My Arturia keyboard maps transport controls to PT really well, but i do not use the functionality that often.
      4. You could check out Arturia, but it’s not a replacement for the NI software, which is better for beat/groove making. I have a video on the Arturia you could have look at.
      5. I’ve had no issues with it connected to the internet, but I do not use the computer for any other activity.
I wish you all the best for your music production.
      Thanks again
      Anthony

@@antonamos398 Thank you so much for your reply...I did check out your Arturia video as well and did a little other research on them, their controller you review is pretty amazing and maps with PT but I think their focus as a whole is mostly on key/synth sounds as far as their software and not an overall production solution...would be nice to include their products as an alternative option to the NI stuff in the future in that respect. You are right about the transport on the NI, I will just use normal PT commands on mac keyboard, it would just be nice to have it on the NI. Looks like I will be getting an S class keyboard from NI and the Machine. Appreciate your input...thank you again and good luck with your projects.

@@ustulo3488 buddy don't mix up software and controllers. you can use native software with any midi controller, just not all the bells and whistles which are all gimmicks anyway. NI midi and transport plays terrible with PT. That's how it is because Avid are twats. Nothing new here. If I was you and just working with beat production bugger PT off all together and learn a new daw. I am like you 20 years using a monopoly product that nobody wants to pay for anymore.

Hi, sorry to hear, I’ve had issues in the past with delay when pressing the browser button and taking quite a while for the application to respond. Also at times Ive seen issues when Kontact plugin window is not open on the computer, in addition if you have multiple instances of the Kontact plugin open in PT on different tracks, it wasn’t always obvious to me which track and instance of Kontact I was trying to browse. Also worth checking the USB connection, try a different USB port directly on the computer, sometimes this has worked. If all else fails, I can only suggest what I do, reboot, new Protools session from scratch, only use the Kontact Plugin on one track and see what happens? I’m running the latest version of PT, on an old Mac Pro 5.1 with HDX and Onmi IO, if that helps for comparison.
