  • 6 months ago, some friends and I took a 10 day road trip across the American west. We went through the Tetons, then Yellowstone and finally up to Glacier National Park. It was one of the most memorable trips of my life. Both Wyoming and Montana have always held a special place in my heart. The truly are incredible places of sheer beauty and wild splendor. I hope this film gives you a piece of what the American west feels like.

    Extremely impressive, it honestly brought the immersion of being filmed at least a couple decades ago until I saw the 6 feet apart sign at the very end.

    There really is some indefinable quality of grain and light to film that makes my heart ache. It is almost like looking at the world I grew up in transplanted into an alternate present where history went differently and film remained a high art and a ghostly record of a very different and more human place.

    • @taylorwerfelmann
      @taylorwerfelmann  Před rokem +1

      I feel that. Film to me will always have a transporting quality, where as digital feels too close to reality. Not to mention that film will always capture colors more accurately because of it being a chemical process so there’s something to True tones instead of manufactured ones. Just my thoughts. It’s definitely my favorite art medium.

    Viewing this from Ireland (which has many beautiful places) but there's a majesty and bigger scale to the landscapes in states like Wyoming and Montana - and you make a great case for film - and not to overlook that it's the person behind the camera - "watching out for the light" - that's all important - well done !!

    • @taylorwerfelmann
      @taylorwerfelmann  Před 6 měsíci

      @@HunterSkowronPDXsweet! Ya I do. I basically try to meter for the mid tones if that helps. That light meter especially can be tough to use because it’s not a spot meter. I take a lot of time and care to find the mid-tone and meter for that. Or try metering different light in the scene and then shoot it somewhere in the middle depending on what you’re looking for. I’m always overexposing when in doubt. Easier to save in post.
