I donât know the difference between a carburetor or a tuna fish sandwich. But I just got my snow blower running thanks to this video! THANK YOU!
đ€Łđ€đ„
Donât eat your toroâŠ.
Nice Nebraskan helping the world!!! Man that last snow in Omaha storm got me tired wish I watched this and tried fixing my blower
I was hoping the last few were going to be good ones lol. I Love the snow! Give it go, never know if we get another random snow storm.
Thank you! Exactly the information I was looking for! I appreciate your no nonsense approach - and I am thrilled that I didn't have to spend an hour watching 10 movies to find this information. OK - now to go and try this out! Fingers crossed!!! Thanks!
Just got a foot and half snow and of course the snowblower would not start. I followed your video and it started right up. Thank you so much!!
Dude thanks for the quick fix. I forgot to run the gas out of mine last winter and it wouldnât start for nothing. Did exactly what you instructed and Wala! Running like a champ again. Thanks for the quick tip!
Awesome!!! Glad it was some help and to hear you got it going!!đ€
I got my snow blower to run. Thanks for the informative and to the point video.
Thats great news! Thanks for watching!
Amazing! Toro single stage didn't want to start but took apart the carburetor bowl, cleaned out inside with brake fluid, and it fired right up! You're a champ! Thanks Joe!
AWESOOOOME!!! Glad it worked! đ„đ€
The most easiest video I have ever seen on the tube'z about cleaning a carb!
Thanks Man!!!đ€
i used carb cleaner and it also worked like a charm! much appreciated!
OMG, I just did this my non-working snowblower. Used super tech carb cleaner instead of brake cleaner, it started on 1st pull! Thanks sooo much!
NOICE!!! Yeah super tech carb cleaner or brake cleaner works great!! Glad you gotter going!đ€
You are truly amazing- thank you for sharing this video. Saved us so much money. Worked like magic. Thank you!!!!!
Awesome!!! Glad it was able to help out!!đ€
Thank you! Mine looked slightly different. It had 4 screws, rather than a bolt, holding the fuel bowl (or whatever you called it, lol) on. Bottom line, it worked perfectly and I had no clue what I was doing up until I watched your video.
AWESOME!!! Glad to hear you got it going! Great job!đ€
Great advice for the novice internal combustion taker-aparter! I like your video!
Thanks Man!đ„đ€
I am really happy I found your video on this issue. I have the exact same snowblower and I forgot to run it out of gas last spring, however I did use gas that was ethanol free all last winter, but I am going to do the brake cleaning thing you did here wish me luck!!! I have to get this snowblower going before the Big Snowstorm hits us here in Michigan at the end of this coming week!!!
Yeah its crazy how easy the gas goes bad and clogs everything up. Yeah for real gotta get ready before the storm! Good luck and stay safe!
Haha, I just pulled this video up after running my gas 8,000 watt generator for 5 mins. Something I do once a month to make sure things are good before having the power outage. It also helps cycle the gas though everything. Small engines need maintenance.
Nice!!!! Yeah always good to make sure the genny will work at any moment! Never know when the power will go out.....or even come back on! Id say winter gas cycling is much slower but usually end up throwing it in the car lol.
Thank's Joe. My snowblower konked out cause the carb was filthy. Tried different methods, without taking the whole thing off and yours was the only one that worked. Your right about the gas as well. It's hard to find ethanol free gas here in NY, but it's best to store your equipment with it. I'll try the Seafoam as well. You rock!
Awesome! Glad it was a help! Yeah most pumps around here are starting to only have the "10%" ethonol now. I know of 1 station close that doesnt have it. Good to hear you got it going!đ€
Home Depot and Lowes have premixed ethanol free 2 stroke fuel. I got a can to run thru my blower that had stale fuel in it. Worked pretty good but I'm gonna try cleaning the carb as well.
Tremendous! This worked like a champ. Over the last few seasons, my TORO was getting harder and harder to start and last week finally refused to run. After shoveling 5" this week, I found your video, spent $2 on brake cleaner at Walmart and I'm back in business. I'm looking forward to the next snowfall. THANKS!
Thats Amazing!!!! Glad to hear you got it running again!đ€
I just purchased a Toro 1000 for $5. It needs a primer bulb and by the looks of the nasty gas in the tank I'll need the process you described here. As for Sea Foam, in my opinion it's awesome. I've had mowers that wouldn't start or that ran really rough and loading Sea Foam into the tank with fresh gas did the trick. Thanks much.
5$ is a GREAT DEAL!!! I use sea foam and have good luck with it as well!
Hey Joe. I have the same Toro Snowblower was unable to get it started. Your simple ideas on how to clean the carb and maintain it, helped out BIG time! The funny thing is, we moved to a larger house with lots of driveway to clear from snow and ice, here in Frozen Tundra, Windy City. By the way at times it becomes colder here in Chicago, than in Nome, Alaska..! Thank you so much, buddy.
Awesome! Thats great to hear! Isnt it crazy to think its colder there then Alaska!! Im in Omaha NE and YES COLD LOL.
@@AveRage_Joe Hi Joe, I understand beef is great, tender and juicy there in Nebraska...?
Id say it is in many of the midwest states. Omaha steaks (the company) has good steaks but KC steaks (the company)are a little better imo! At the local stores is where its at tho! GREAT steaks!!!
Simple and to the point wow this guy didn't even unbox the snowblower great job
I appreciate that!
Thank you sooo much! It had been sitting for 4 years but I got it going, first pull after a little carb tinkering.
Whoa 4 years aye!!!!đź
@@AveRage_Joe Yes and Iâm a 76 yo female determined to fix it myself and thanks to you it started. The carb float pin came out but fortunately I found it on the floor. Guess I wouldnât have been so lucky if I didnât find it, lol. I noticed your carb was a little different. Thanks again.
Finally got a good dump of snow and I could really check out if the snowblower would run properly under load. It worked great! Weâre ready for another good blow. Bring it on!
SWEET!đ€
I drained gas as well - it worked! Thanks again!
Awesome!!! Glad its all up and running!
Great video! I just sprayed a half can of brake cleaner directly into the half full fuel tank and ran it for 10 minutes and the surging gradually stopped. Try it, maybe it will work for you too. Easy peasy.
I like the driveway paint decorations
đIts the IN thing to do!
A repair shop wanted $260 to replace the entire carburetor, I said no and found this vid and fixed it my self for $2 (brake cleaner). You save me a lot of money, thanks!
Love that you fixed it yourself!!!đ„ Thanks for watching!!đ€
This worked like charmed. Thanks
Awesome! Glad you got it going!đ€
Thanks Man, out here in Elkhorn, and this helped a ton!
Your in Elkhorn Ne? How much did you guys get last week? We got 9-12 at my house.
@@AveRage_Joe It was about a 12" and hoping we don't get more than a dusting this week. Lord knows we don't need another flood after the thaw like 2019.
OMG that flood......đ€Šââïž I work on base and they are still fixing stuff from it!
I Left my snow blower in Indiana 9 years ago As I do not think I will need one in Florida lol I like running out of fuel the best nice vid.
There you go! No more snow! Didnt Florida pan handle get a lil snow the last year or 2?
@@AveRage_Joe Yes you are right I'm in North Fort Myers Florida 335 miles from northern line I will have to Google I believe they bam bam! found snow at 1 time or another down here.
Thank you for the tip. It worked
Glad it helped!!
Nice work & thanks for sharing it
Thanks for watching!!
Good to see you! I hope your doing well! You got me hooked on 18650s! I now have three ebikes and repair batteries for an ebike distributor in the northeast. Thank you.
WHOA NOICE!!!! Do you get to keep any "faulty" packsđđ
@@AveRage_Joe Hi Joe the first battery I repaired had 4 failed 18650. I looks like the manufacturer dropped the battery pack on the floor and dented them. A third of the packs I see have bad cells. I replace just the bad cells unless the customer wants a full refresh. I've tried about ten different BMS balance boards. The first few were under rated and would trip. After disconnecting they reset.
The people I work for ordered some 18650 with high (7.5a) discharge rate. They got a good price ($3.01 new) and had me gut a couple of batteries and install the newer cells. I got to keep the older insides. The plan is to take these 36v 10ah packs and use them on my wifes 500w three wheeler.
The hardest part about the ebike packs/batteries is finding the right BMS/balance board. I've tried 7 different BMS with mixed results. Most of the ones I tried do not handle the current and need to be reset. I just ordered a 36v 40a BMS/balance. I started with a 36v 15a. ttyl
Thank you so much! It worked.
Awesome! Glad to hear it!đ€
Michigan just got dumped on today and of course snowblower wouldnt start! This did the trick, good video
We havent had much of anything this season.....yet! How much did you end up getting?
@@AveRage_Joe
Man, were I live in Michigan ended up with 10inches!! Snowed for two days straight! Big fat snowflakes!!
Love it!!
Thank you
I replaced the plug, that didn't work. Cleaned out the carburator; fired off, just like new. Great advice, just in time.
Thank you. I got a $600 snowblower that my neighbor who moved out of state gave me. This helped me get it going. He moved back, I felt so bad about how easy it was to fix. I called him, asked if he wanted it back, but he let me keep it.
*I meant, he is moving back soon.
NICE!!! I love getting things cheap or free and its an easy fix. Ive gotten 2 lawn tracktors for less then $50 and BOTH had the same dirty carbđđ€
Great video! Thanks
Thanks for watching!

Yea i am having trouble with my 8Hp chipper . i removed carb it was so full of jello. when I tried to get float valve out it broke off. so i am waiting for a new on that is supposed to arrive today before 9.
OOFTY Jello aye! Yeah thats always fun to find lol. You dont have any other fixer uppers to pull the valve from? At least it was a cheap fix!
Great video, thanks. Going to spray carb cleaner in my snow blower that I've been trying to start for the past week. Quick question - when you got the first (smaller) snow blower running, was causes the white smoke after you started it up. I've seen that before on my lawn mower and was curious what it's from.
Yeah give it a go and see if it starts and runs! The smoke on startup was from all the leftover crud from the last year, brake cleaner and oil lol.
Im gonna try this on my snow thrower
Worth a try for sure!đ€
I saw an answer further down in the post so I will drain the gas. Will be going out this morning and see how it goes.
Did you put a 40:1 mixture to the gas? Thank you.
Yes I think brake cleaner works better than the carb cleaner.. it also worked on an outboard motor I had sitting.. the stuff smells bad but it works... also only use ethanol free gas
Only way to go for sure!!!
Booooom from Bengalore in India đ
BOOOOOOOOM!!!!đ„đ„đ„đđ€
IT WORKED! THANK YOU AVERAGE JOE! GBR
.....And now it doesn't. Very low power. Soo much smoke. Couldn't even engage the thrower without it bogging down. Let it run for 5 minutes and it died. Won't start now. God damnit God damnit
Did you use any cleaner like seafoam in the gas while letting it run. There is most likely a clog further down.
@@AveRage_Joe I didn't. There wasn't any where I bought the brake cleaner. I will give that a shot today!
well done

Good video. Will the brake cleaner damage the plastic in carburetor like the carb cleaner. Thanks
Not at all

You can also use fuel stabilizer ( Sta-Bil) in the tank when you put it away like
Yep thats another one!
@@AveRage_Joe tried!!
"Maybe throw some safety googles on!" advice was a useful reminder ... I did and when I was spraying the carb cleaner it splashed back and would have gotten in my eyes.
Yeah I usually forget lol!
Thank yoy
Welcome đ
I have the same one and I have to replace the primer button and hope it start, my question for you ? Is it gas only are mixed with 2stroke? it was giving to me by a friend and im not sure.
Its usually the ethonal in the gas that eats rubber or drys it out when it sits. Just run it empty at the end of the season and that will help a ton!
NICE
About to go and get some brake cleaner. I forget to remove the gas EVERY YEAR. The shop near me charges $100 to fix and I keep bringing it back yearly.
Cheap easy fix!
YES YES
This worked like a charm! The repair man wanted $130 just to look at it! $6 and 20-30mins later with a fresh oil change and boom!
LOVE IT!!!đ„đ€
Thankfully I don't need such contraptions as that here in NC, I don't even own a snow shovel!
đIts a love hate relationship! What kind of temps you get in "winter" time?
God I hope this works... I know very little about engines, got this blower from a guy for free. Replaced the pull starter(omg what a nightmare). Didn't work. Replaced the spark plug and fuel filter... didn't work. You Said 9/10 times it's the carb. so wish me luck that I'm not the 1/10!
Will this method work on larger snowblowers? I have a big Craftsman that only starts for a half second, but there's nothing on the bottom to remove.
It should!! Is there not a fuel bowl on lower side of carb?
Ugh Iâm gonna have to pull out my snowblowers đ
Its TIME!!!!!
Do I need to drain the gas first before I spray the one you spray in the carburetor and can I put it back the gas that I drained. Also, the one that you spray in the carburetor is it safe also to use it in Toro snow blower 621.
If the gas stinks(doesnt smell like gas) I wouldnt reuse and yes drain it. If the gas smells ok then pinch off the gas line from the carb to save it. Yeah you can use the spray on all carbs.
@@AveRage_Joe For clarification, are you saying that the good gas doesnât necessarily have to be drained in order to clean the carburetor and just pinch the fuel line so the gas doesnât drain out? I just filled with new gas only to find that it wouldnât start. This is my first time doing a fix like this. Currently in the middle of a snow storm in the Northeast. Hoping to get the blower up and running tomorrow morning. I appreciate you posting a video like this and thank you in advance for your help!
Yeah if you just put gas in and dont want to loose it, pinch the line with something and then if you can drain the good gas back into your gas can just in case you have to tilt the blower over. If you dont need to tilt the blower over then the pinch should be fine. Good luck, we just got a foot of snow the other day!đ€
Can you test the new battery hookup nickel strip with fuses built in? Itâs on their website I got some but I couldnât really get it to blow I was also wondering how it was and if itâd melt foam and heat shrink and how to avoid that.
I can and WILL!! A subscriber sent me a sample for that reasonđ€đ Sure I could throw some on some foam if I have some and are you talking about if your hole pack was in heat shrink or just the cells heat shrink? If its a hole pack shrink then Ill have to get some from Keith!
AveRage Joe whole pack heat shrink. Iâll send you some if you need it! I have 4p sized shrink wrap Iâll send you 1 1/2 feet
Gotcha! Yeah if you wanna send some that be great!
Hey bud, great video! Would I have to drain all the gas before I flip it over and start cleaning it?
I would or it may leak all over through the cap. Pull the gas line to cab and drain back into gas can.
@@AveRage_Joe thanks man
You can buy premixed fuel, that what I use in my chain Saws and weed eater
Yeah thats an option for sure!
Most often from old gas itâll be the main jet thatâs clogged. You can stick a flat head screwdriver into that center hole and screw the jet out, itâll make it easier to spray down and clean. Sometimes if itâs really bad, you can poke something through the hole to help move the gunk, or even drill the center hole out with a small drill. Make sure to clean the float bowl out before putting it back on, and you should be good to go.
He didnât mention one of the main conditions that occurs from a clogged main jet - Engine Surging. So your motor will start, but once you switch the choke to RUN position the engine will continuously surge the throttle/RPM up and down. If you switch the choke to open again and it smooths the RPM out, you got a clogged main jet. Follow the same cleaning steps as above.
That is correct I didnt mention any of that. This was just a quick fix!đ€
Itâs normal for it to surge with the choke open. Does it continue to surge if you set the choke to the normal RUN position? Or it only surges with choke open?
If itâs not surging in RUN position, then itâs operating normally. The Throttle is part of the Carburetor, you can take the carb off and clean it, but generally thatâs not whatâs causing the surging if there is any. Get back to me when the winter season starts if it surges in RUN. If it continues to surge in RUN position, there is another fix.
Question if you have to mix gas and oil but u donât have oil can i use gas only??
The oil lubes all those parts. Can you...yes. Should you....meh. You could probly get by but wear and tear would be the end of it.
was that first little one a 2 stroke? I just got one that says powerlite on it and it says it;s a 3 hp - which I take to be 180CC 2 stroke 50:1 fuel mix. I got it for 30 bucks!
Yeah the lil guy is a 2 stroke!
@@AveRage_Joe It;s not fireing up. I guess I have to figure out how to take the dang thing apart. I have not attempted it yet. the electric start works but no fire.
Do you use oil mixed gas for all snow blowers or no?? đ€
No not all. Usually the small single stage are the mix and the bigger 2 stage are straight gas.
I'm thinkin' 18650 conversion! đđ„đ€Ł
Id attempt on another lil one if I can find one cheap or free. That lil one is the wifes folksđšâđ§đ
@@AveRage_Joe Good call. đ
Use trufuel premix 50:1 and you'll never have trouble again
Like your video, going to see if it works on my snow thrower. Do you empty the gas before taking off the bowel?
I would if the gas stinks or if you think you would spill it all over.
Maybe a dumb question, but if I remove the carb bowl will all the gas drain from the tank? Or can I remove and spray with a full tank?
Yes it would drain the tank however if you clamp the fuel line(pinch it with something flat so you dont ruin it) you can then proceed. Another option is to pull the line and drain it back into the gas can.
Ok so I took my carb bowl off to clean out the carb and found the float is made of cork and not even a smooth cork. It has little chunks missing. Is this would Toro put in their carbs. Seems a bad choice to me since it could shed cork particles.
Wow! Did you buy it new or from another person. They might have done that a super long time ago but wouldnt think they would in the last 20yrs. If you got from another person they may have done that for a cheap repair.
@@AveRage_Joe I repaired it for my neighbour. They bought it like that. Im not certain how old it is. I did a search and it appears Toro did use cork at one time.
Nice! That is interesting!
Any type of break cleaner is fine ?
YES! Cheap stuff from walmartđ
I'm having trouble finding the carburetor on my ION24SB-XR.
đKeep looking, its there!!!!đđđđ⥠How does it do anyway?
@@AveRage_Joe How do you think the only battery-powered 2-stage snow blower on the market made by a no-name brand would do? It's underpowered and the batteries only last 20 minutes in 6+ inches of snow. It bogs down if you throw anything over 12 inches at it. It's definitely no replacement for the gas powered ones like you have. I just wanted to get a laugh out of you, really.
LOL yeah sounds about right! Im sure some day they will figure it out!
wait this isn't the mustie1 channel!
đđđ„
It's a shame we didn't get a boom :-(
BOOOOOOMđ
Have you tried using non-ethanol gas? You should be able to find it. It doesn't cause that crap nearly as quickly as the alcohol gas.
I've gotten my neighbors to change from ethanol gas to the non-ethanol blended stuff for small engines. Now I don't have to clean their carburetors every spring.
I avoid ethanol gas like the plague! This lil snowblower was a family members so I thought a quick video was in order! I do the same and tell everyone not to use that gas cause its garbage! Most listen and some say they do but I end up cleaning the carb on there piece of equipment every year lol.
You must live in a neighborhood like mine. Where you have to hide your tools when your done with them.
đ Isnt that the TROOF!!đ€
These blowers are very light weight, I can easily pick it up and throw it in the back of my Jeep
Yet one more reason I live in a SNOWLESS location. LOL 99.8% of these issues can be eliminated and or Prevented simply by turning off the gas and allowing the engine to run until DRY. Works for me. Prevents carb issues on ANY combustion engine. A MUST DO for your small generators. *** Ethanol Destroys rubber or plastic components. Even the stuff listed as Ethanol Proof ! LOL
Yeah I avoid that gas like the plague! Ruins EVERYTHING! Oh yeah I forgot about the fuel shutoff valves a lot of things have lol.
@@AveRage_Joe Yep running them dry WORKS for sure. Not had any issues after learning the simple little trick. Unless my kid puts Grass in the Gas tank again...
LOL GRASS???
@@AveRage_Joe Yea, Odd Mind Set . MESSED UP MIND SET. Did it just to get up my Nose. It Worked most well. Took me three days and at least 9 hours to figure that one out. LOL
I am trying this technique. But, my inlet needle fell out and I canât find any info on how to fix it. This looks like just what I need otherwise.
As in the pin that holds the float came out and then needle and float came out?
@@AveRage_Joe the float didnât come out. Just the inlet needle and spring
I did not see any snow that does not sound like the joe i know doing stuff before it is needed
TROOF! The lil one was the wifes parents. However.....making sure my snow blower starts and runs is one thing I do actually do as my back WILL NOT handle shoveling anymore. I learn SLOWLY LOLđ
Run it out of gas? I've always heard that's *bad* for the engine! I put Seafoam in my last tank for the season to keep the gas stable over the winter.
In a vehicle it is for sure. Yeah I usually have something in the gas to keep it stable as well and dont run into clogged carbs. This lil one was the wifes parents!
I have 2 non working and a chainsaw motor
Hose the carb down with brake cleaner!
Brake cleaner works on those too
Can I use w-40 ?
Dont think that would work!
@@AveRage_Joe so I cleaned the carburetor as you did in the video. A lot of smoke came out when I turned on shortly after it turned off . It was struggling to stay on . Could it be something else ? Previous owner left the blower been sitting for 3 years put fresh gas in it
It may smoke a bit after as its burning off all the old and stuff you sprayed.
michel filion
you need to buy a cheap one and convert it to electric. Ugh, all those fumes/smoke.
If I can find a cheap one Ill attempt it! That lil one was Laurens Dads!
Either your fuel mix is dead on or you're running straight gas in that 2 stroke....
The 2 stroke is the father-in-laws and he left the gas oil mix in over warmer months a few to many times to clog it up. Once I got it the clog removed I used my gas/oil mix with a little seafoam and runs GREAT!
Fyi, stop using gasoline and you will never have this problem. Go get yourself some Trufuel. Donât use pump gas on small engines, the Ehtanol will destroy it.
