    I have two BOP planted in my backyard and I don't have an option to move it. The one that is exposed to the sun is healthy and straight. The other one which is partially shaded is shorter and bending. Thank you very much and now I know why my BOP is leaning. I will do this method to help the other one grow straight.

    Do you need to keep the bamboo stalks in forever or will they be trained to grow straight? How do you know when to remove the supports?

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Alana,
      Thank you for watching.
      Yes, stalks can straighten up in time. In a month or so, remove the raffia and see if a supported branch is straight and sturdy. If yes, you can remove the bamboo stick.
      I recommend checking areas where raffia is holding the stem and bamboo stick together once a month to ensure it is not too tight (stems get thicker as they grow). You can move it or loosen it up if necessary.
      Don't forget to rotate your plants, keep the soil levels up, and make sure the pot is deep enough for your plant.
      Green Luck!

    Hi! I've watched 2 of your BOP videos so far and found them extremely helpful. I just bought and potted one today and had some questions:
    1. Can I add support stakes to adjust the positions of 4 foot BOP leaves? Or are they too tall to do so?
    2. When potting, how compressed do you recommend the potting mix in the planter to be? Should I mildy press down with each layer of soil or is it better to leave more air pockets?
    Thank You!

      Yes, you can add support to your Bird of paradise. Here is the link for 4 foot bamboo sticks amzn.to/3Ltatl3

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  Před 3 měsíci

      Hello & Thank you for watching!
      The Bird Of paradise plants need to be repotted on average once every 2-3 years.
      If you have noticed that the watering frequency went up and/or there is no space between the roots and the pot wall, and/or the roots are poking out at the bottom of the pot through the drainage hole - it is time to repot your plant.
      Green Cheers!

    how will i know if my BOP is leaning because of the light or any other reason? Im a little bit worried, i want it to be healthy

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Lorena,
      If you have not rotated your plant for a while and it is leaning toward the window (light source), then it is leaning because of the light.
      If the soil level is low in the pot, then this can be why the plant is leaning.
      If the plant is not potted correctly and the soil is too loose around it, the plant has no support, and that is why it is leaning.
      If none of the above apply, then the plant might be too top-heavy and needs the support sticks + might need to be re-potted in a larger pot so it can sit dipper in a pot to have more support around the root system.
      Hope this helps.
      Green Luck and thank you for watching! 🌱

      You may prune your plant back to encourage new growth. Here is how: bit.ly/30JifQZ

      Some raffia is natural (comes from the segments of the leaves on the Raphia Farinifera palm) and some is the imitation and made from paper.

      I soaked the compacted soil roots mess and then repotted in a much larger pot (probably a couple years too late 😢). But now it looks great!! I think I might try to stake it too for extra precaution. It’s hard in nyc when plants live in a 10000% liveable corner (lots of light 🥰 ☀️). *BUT* the problem is that it is still a ~corner~ so it’s hard if not impossible to rotate the way BOP “should” be rotated :/

    • @Mycityplants
      @Mycityplants  Před 3 lety

      I am glad the plant is doing better now. Yes, rotation of large plants that spread their leaves wide can be challenging:)
