"With all due respect M, sometimes I don't think you have the balls for this job." Perhaps but at least I don't have to think with them all the time." God I love Judi Dench.
They should bring this plot back. I feel it’s more important now than ever. In 1996 it still was cool. But considering how we’ve seen media in the past few years be. This would be much more relatable today now than ever
I loved watching bond movies especially Goldeneye/TND as a kid, and still do. Never occurred to me just how sassy M was in this scene 😅 that reply about not having to think with balls is an absolute zinger 🤣
Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies are my two top favorite bond movies (usually, depends on my mood). I still love Diamonds are Forever, You Only Live Twice, Man with the Golden Gun, and A View to a Kill though as well.
This is why I believe Pierce Brosnan is the quintessential James Bond. he embodies everything James Bond should be. Even Albert R. Broccoli (film producer) thought so that Mr. Broccoli offered the James Bond role to Pierce Brosnan in 1983 before Timothy Dalton (2nd choice) but Pierce turned it down because he wasn't sure he was qualified at the time to do James Bond justice. But even in the 80's tv audience knew he was James Bond while he was working on "Remington Steele" tv show.
Theirs no doubt he is the best James Bond ever. He has the Flare of both Sean Coney, and Roger Moore. The three best James Bond ever, followed by Timothy Dalton.
Julian Fellowes making a small appearance here as the Minister of Defence . Who I assume is the character Frederick "Freddie" Gray's Successor , in the context of the films. Makes me wish he had showed up in The World is Not Enough and possibly Die Another Day. His demeanor and rapport with Pierce, Dame Judi, etc.. is Spot On. This is the Same man , who went on and created Downton Abbey, and The Gilded Age... Julian Fellowes is a Low Key Legend. Does his thing acting, got the money to make his own stuff, put it out, made a household name of his creations. They could have used his character much more in the other films. I also kinda wish they had included a little scene where Bond actually sees that newspaper for the first time at a stand, either at Oxford, or in traffic coming through London, and grabs it to bring with him to show M, The Admiral, And The Minister of Defence.
It really does say a lot when you have these guys going "hey these guys were shot with Chinese rounds. TIME TO END THE ENTIRE WORLD OVER THAT ONE TINY DETAIL."
i can't explain exactly what it is, but there is something really cool about M being raced around in that old car having a glass during the middle of the day.
“You don’t have the balls…” “Perhaps. But at least I can think from time to time…” “Yes but where do we stand?” Goes on to meet Bond… “You’ll just have to decide how much pumping is needed James.”
Carver was ahead of his time as a villain. War with china was a step too far but media and online control of all info would be a great villain for this time.
As much as she hates the methods, he *is* the only agent that survives literally anything you throw at him. He gets results. That...and seduction as a secret agent is a pretty nifty tool to have.
4:30 Is the Royal Navy going to park near a USAF base? ... Oh, she meant the Chinese fleet of paper airplanes? Sorry, my mistake. (Largest air force: US Air Force. 2nd largest: US Navy. 3rd largest: US Army.)
Yeesh, this villain is played so smarmy and campy it just doesn’t seem like a proper Bond villain. More like an Austin Powers kinda villain.(and yes, I know Powers is the super campy, comedic parody of Bond, that’s why I said it)
What’s funny is he’s one of the most realistic villains ever plopped in one of these movies. He’s a billionaire creating a crisis and using the press to gain even more power with the spread of misinformation. This movie was ahead of its time.
I don't think it could ever be described just how great Jonathan Pryce is in this film. Definitely my favorite Bond villain for sure!
Phenomenal performance.
Rupert Murdoch chose him personally.
"With all due respect M, sometimes I don't think you have the balls for this job." Perhaps but at least I don't have to think with them all the time." God I love Judi Dench.
Judy Dench's M was the only one who ever kept up with Bond.

" Queen an Contry ...James....You just have to decide how much pumping is needed James..." Best of Moneypenny

in order to protect the queen and country, pumping left is the best choice
Fun fact....
Mr. Wallace is really Michael G. Wilson the producer of most Bond films. His step father was Chubby Broccoli
The Bond villain most ridiculed back in 97, now the most feared in 23.
Best Steve Jobs impression ever
Actually, it's William Randolph Hearst, Ted Turner and Rupert Murdoch all enrolled into one.

Mr.Elliot Carver is very DEVIOUS IN ALL THE WORKS.. A REAL MEDIA MOGUL 😇
They mention GPS every 5 minutes in this movie because it was the hot new thing in the 90s.

You have to love how in Goldeneye, M couldn't stand Bond, and his "methods" in this one she actively encourages it.
