    Thank you, I enjoyed this & although I went with the Gateron Brown Switches, those Cowberry switches have me intrigued. I might (once the Cowberry switches are in stock) have to order a set & try those. The timing of me looking at keyboards & specifically the Nuphy Air 75 was good because I heard of Nuphy & started looking at the Air 75 but didn't purchase the V1 & then they announced the V2 which seems like all of the upgrades are more than worthwhile.

    Good review.
    With regards to the question "is it worth upgrading from v1 to v2" - for me, absolutely, mainly because of QMK/VIA. I had the v1 and the software side of it was a big downside. I sold it recently and for the last few months I'm using Keychron K3 Pro. I didn't expect QMK/VIA-enabled NuPhy so soon and it was a big surprise. So now I'm waiting for my v2.

    Great review! Was planning to buy the Keychron K3 Pro but now I see this. How would the Nuphy compare to the Keychron?

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  Před 10 měsíci +2

      The Air75 V2 is going to have better battery life (220hrs vs 130hrs), the additional 2.4GHz connection, and slightly better bluetooth polling rate (125Hz vs 90Hz). The typing feel and sound will also be different, the Air75 has a deeper sound because of the slightly more enclosed design vs the open floating key design of the K3 Pro. They both can sit on top of a laptop keyboard which is nice, and with the update to QMK/VIA in the V2 they both now have that for customization. I have the K3 Pro and have enjoyed it, but the Air75 V2 has a bit more of a premium feel and the other benefits that I mentioned, so it would be my personal choice.

    Hello. Great review, thank you. Still a question - If I don't have the AIR75 and this is not an upgrade for me but the first purchase - is it better to go for V1 or V2?

    I have the air 75 v1, was considering upgrading to v2, but then Keychron released the Alice version of this, the k15 pro. I’d prefer a real split low profile 75% keyboard, so if Nuphy ever decides to release a split version of the air 75 v2, I might upgrade to that. But for the time being, I’m switching from air 75 to k15 pro.

    Nice review! Very thorough!
    They marketed the Moss as early bump like the baby kangaroo. Is it noticeable compared to the wisteria?

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Holding them next to each other and pressing very slowly, the timing/placement of the bump feels like it is the same, but Moss has almost an illusion of being slightly earlier because it is much more pronounced and snappy than Wisteria. Wisteria barely feels tactile compared to Moss - very light bump and almost a "slow" feel to it, where Moss feels like a quick and noticeable bump. In that regard I would say it's closer to BBK than either brown or Wisteria.

      I'm glad you're liking it! They do have the Air96 which has the number pad but it's still pretty compact with no space between the number pad and the arrow keys. It's also not QMK/VIA compatible unfortunately because they released it before switching over to QMK firmware. Otherwise it's very similar to the new Air75 V2, just lacking QMK/VIA and the faster wireless polling rates. I'm hoping they release an updated version of it at some point as well.

    I have the v2 but the 2.4 GHz misses keystrokes quite a bit and that's even after the supposed "fix" of updating firmware to 1.1.1. Seems like others are having this issue as well. Bluetooth and wired both work great though. Love the board, but I mainly bought the v2 for the "reliable", fast polling 2.4 GHz connection but sadly cannot use that mode without losing a lot of producivity fixing typos. Did you have this issue with yours?

    I wish keyboard makers would make the spacebar more narrow. We don't need a spacebar that eats so much space and pushes the modifier keys farther away from our thumbs. Doing common things like cut/copy/paste (CMD key modifier) require cranking your thumb way back under your hand if you want to maintain "home key" typing position with your fingers. In contrast, the Macbook Air keyboard has a spacebar when aligns exactly with CVBNM range of keys. So the left and right CMD keys are now closer to the middle and therefore much more accessible to thumbs.

    Any idea if NuPhy is planning to do a V2 for the Air96 soon? I'd buy it in a heartbeat if the 96 had QMK/VIA and the other enhancements that the Air75 V2 got.

  • @tarrantksm
    @tarrantksm Před 10 měsíci

    How does it stack up against the K13 Pro? I'm currently using it for working on the go and I've already had to replace a switch due to it being torqued out when being thrown around in a bag. This looks like just what I need, QMK is a must for the macros I currently use.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Of course it won't have the number pad, but the battery life should be better than the K13 Pro, typing sound will be deeper since K13 is a floating key design, and the switches are a bit more protected by the frame. I've had no problems using VIA so far so you should not have any issue adding macros. NuPhy also makes a nice folio cover for travel to help protect it. The wired polling rate is 1000Hz for both, and NuPhy has a slightly better bluetooth polling rate at 125Hz compared to 90Hz for the K13 Pro, plus of course NuPhy has the 2.4GHz extra connection. The Air75 is going to be roughly the same weight (1.31lbs vs. 1.28lbs for the K13 Pro) but a little more compact. It really depends on whether you rely a lot on the number pad but in terms of features/specs, the Air75 V2 has an edge over the K13 Pro.

      @tarrantksm Před 10 měsíci

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@tarrantksm Oh yes that makes sense lol. Pretty much the same comparison except for the dimensions/weight, you would be going from 1.16lbs to 1.31lbs. Probably not a huge difference unless your bag is already pretty maxed out. Features/spec wise, K3 Pro is the same as K13 so those differences still apply. I can see what you mean about the K3 Pro feeling fragile though - even though the top of the base is aluminum, it feels like it may not survive if you dropped it. The Air75 V2 is not a tank, but does feel a bit more sturdy to me.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  Před 10 měsíci

      I have a set of Aloe and have used them in my Air60 and can confirm they are quite a bit louder than the other linear switch options. They are very easy to bottom out because they're so light and that likely means you're striking the bottom with more force. The new Cowberry to me seems like it will be the quietest linear switch, but I need to get a full set to really compare it equally. Out of the tactile switches the Wisteria seems to be the quietest.

    V2 looks like pretty not bad, but I guess while my V1 is alive - won't be upgraded. Only thing I'm waiting next version - is switch to wired connection wia fn+123 - and it does no need physical switch on top of the keyboard. And I guess nuphy needs also automatically detection what OS is connected to. It will cause minus 1 switch as well.
    That's all I miss in V1. I guess if keyboard will remember up to 5-6 wireless connections - it will kill most of other keyboards (yes not everyone need such number, but why not??).

    Now that you've had this for a while - how's the connection stability? I have the V1 and every once in a while on 2.4 it'll stall out or send a bunch of random letters that I didn't type. Odd behavior since the dongle is like 6 inches from my keyboard.

    • @semiprotech

      The only issue I've had with the V2 on the 2.4GHz connection is the range (same experience on the 60/75/96). All of them required placement closer to the keyboard than my usual setup, but once I got them within about 12 inches, they've been stable. No weird behavior so far, and I have mostly used the 2.4GHz connection with my work windows laptop connected via dock.

    Well, I just got a logitech mx mechanical 100% keyboard ("for windows"). I'm returning it after one day of use, and will get the Air 75 V2 as soon as the black keys w/ brown switches variant becomes available again. I'm not a "snob" at all (used a compact logitech K360 for years and had no complaints), and i think the typing experience on the MX Mech is just fine. I was originally drawn to the MX because of the battery life. However, I HATE HATE HATE that I can't remap the lower right control key cluster (alt, fn, ctrl, and ... start?) even using the logitech options+ software. I also can't remap the fn key using windows powertoys key remapper because the fn key isn't a "regular" key. And why is there a start key on the right side now? At this rate, keyboards will have start keys in the home row! Oh yea, and if you want to use the "smart actions" to create macros or whatever in the options+ software you have to SIGN IN to a logitech account! That is so batshit insane I can't even comprehend it.
    I also got a M650 mouse to go with the MX keyboard (on the wireless dongle), to mimic my current K360 + M510 mouse. The "back" thumb button on the mouse **doesn't work** UNLESS the logitech options+ software is running!! serious, wtf!? I'm returning that as well.

    I'm going to replace my Air96 with the Air75 V2 - which is probably going to be more of a sidegrade than a strict upgrade like it would be for the original Air75 since the 96 was already much better. That said, QMK/VIA support plus wireless is *huge* and I am looking forward to seeing how much more powerful the new MCU chip performs.
    I'm also looking forward to the two new switch options and picked Moss pre-installed in my V2, hoping for improving even on the nice Wisteria.
