    Classic wow is built to make you despise the opposite faction. When looking at the leveling process and how some of the best xp/hr zones are specifically structured to have masses of both horde and Ally be in the same spot, you can tell that the game is structured to incorporate the feeling of having an "enemy." Later in the game this sort of structure can again be found when contesting un'guro, hanging around dire maul, or even during the silithus war efforts patch. Having right click report will give players an easy yet scummy solution to their troubles and as we all know, people tend to take the easy way out rather than confront their struggles. Mass report issues will absolutely occur

      To say it in simple words: Every software based attempt to solve social problems over the years in retail WOW in order to make the game more accessible are a threat to Classic WOW. This is something quite deep to understand for gamers and Blizzard as well and gets us back in the discussion of the early days of free software , where one claim was: You can solve social problems with software. Thats paradigm is clearly wrong due to the fact that solving social problems with software just shift the problem somewhere else and doesn't fix the lack of social skill the game and gamers still need to be a succsessfull in it. That means actually retail WOW is mainly not failing due to apparent factors like content, gameplay or lore (whats is more a question of taste IMHO), but far more to the fact that the game is desocialized by software that tries to solve social problems, like lack of communications skills, commitment of teamwork and be a reliable gamebuddy. THATS actually a huge revelation. That means Blizzard will never change its retail policy, because that paradigm is crucial for raising the profit margins due to the fact software based solutions can be scaled by far more and quicker than anything based on social interaction. They just cant. Thats totally against main believes and rules in the business nowadays, especially when you want to go mobile, whats considered to be the future of the industry. So the community has to be aware that going back to the roots will be considered by Blizzard to forfeit the future of the company.

      In addition, this is probably driven by beancounters at Activision to reduce personnel costs. Human intervention is needed, but that's too injurious to the bonuses of Activision execs. Because actual thinking humans cost money Activision is unwilling to spend.

      @@garyfrazier5414 you know what? They'd rather change their entire "Philosophy and outlook on world" than spend some money on human admins. Same thing happened in LoL. At start when scummy online tards attacked you, you could fight back and never fear reprecussion as when human admin checked logs he saw what's going on. But then they changed their ways to "context doesn't matter if you write bad words we ban you" and ofc it coincided with automated ban system. Since then LoL started it's downfall, same is going to be with classic WoW, if they introduce unfair automated systems that are going to be abused by little mean tards at the expense of normal playing this game will also fail. Lately R6 siege introduced autoban for chat and backlash was so severe they basically turned that shit off.

      @lobsterminion693 Před 5 lety +4

      @Zecksy A few facts to consider:
      1. We are against auto-squelch, not reporting in general.
      2. Auto-squelch was non-functional in the demo, at least according to others who tested it.
      3. Griefing from same-faction players is against CoC, and therefore reportable. Whether the druid was griefing is up to Blizzard to decide.
      Simply reporting someone isn't abusing the system. If Blizzard decides that the reported player is innocent, then nothing happens. However, with auto-squelch, even if the reported player is innocent, they will still be silenced for a potentially significant length of time. I, and probably the vast majority of people who oppose right-click reports, am in favor of a reporting system that does not auto-squelch.

In the Horde's case the asshat team was led by a guy who thought he was amazing, but really had to play 2 or 3 times as much to make the same amount of progress. League of Legends tried this with the tribunal and they found that players would often review cases where someone was reported and because they were funny, or perceived to be better at the game than the rest of the group they were not punished. Meanwhile players that really did not have a reason to be reported other than not doing well in the game were often banned as a result. They have since taken away the tribunal and replaced it with only a marginally better system but it shows players ban others sometimes based solely on a whim and it can ruin the gaming experience.

    The problem is the automation.
    Right click ignore is just fine (and much needed in classic to alleviate the inevitable gold selling whisper spammers), as is right click reporting bots, as is potentially right click reporting anything, so long as it's reviewed by a human game master before any action is taken.

    • @gg5115
      @gg5115 Před 5 lety

      What I don't get is why don't they have far more game masters? They don't even have to be employees, just trusted players, members of the community as it were. I'd do it for a free sub and the occasional swag. And I wouldn't want full game master powers - that would ruin the game for me. (Unless it was my real job, and playing the game would still be ruined.)
      Just some limited silence and kick / forced hearth type powers, perhaps a small allotment of very limited bans. Then each real game master would mostly just review his minion's decisions. That way you've always got real people to see through any scams, and a whole lot more of them. Gold selling was very bad for WoW, and in game gold schilling should result in an instant perma-ban. Yet nothing was done about it in Wrath, it was rampant. (I suspect they let it go on purpose to pave the way for selling it themselves.)
      A lot of this stuff seems to me to have easy answers.

    Would be fairly easier to implement an exponential back-off on the "effect" that a report would have on a player. As soon as you report a player, all reports are "muted" (recorded though for post analisys), but would have no automatic effect for say 30 seconds, then effect back, with double the effect, silenced for two minutes, then 4 minutes, people would have to spend 15 minutes to get you disconnected. this would most definatelly prevent this issue.

      I have said this since day 1. Reporting is not even used out of being offended over a word 95% of the time. They use it as revenge. Its that simple. If the word offended them, they would block the person. Slowly their block list would fill, and they would be happy in their isolation. When you report, its because you want that person to be punished. Lets be honest. It is mostly leftists who report over this type of thing. I hate to bring politics into this but its true. Leftists are very very hopped up on politics (see the woman screaming when Trump won). When someone uses gay as a casual insult or to describe something, they see it as their political enemy, and once again want them punished. In reality the guy using gay as an insult is prob just some pothead who wanted Bernie sanders or something. They are vicious, nasty, and no fun. I would love to sit here and say "its not all leftists" but as of late, I think it really is all of them. Alternate solution: Based on an RNG roll, occasionally invert the report, and get the reporting mob banned instead of their victim. With a bit of AI, the back end could automatically dial the threshold (say, 30% of the time, the reporters get banned instead). The AI could take into account whether the reported party said anything recently, of if it happens in an RBG, etc, etc. I think there is already some AI to figure out what the action should be (ban or just silence). TBH. vanilla wow was not vanilla wow, but a extended beta. vanilla wow did not start till TBC. For as far as right-click reporting for classic goes, it could work if they remove the automation part of it. Since reported players are suppose to be looked into by a "person" to see if there was a offense in the first place. Blizzard can even take it one step farther, to where a false/trolling report will lead to the punishment of the person/people who put in the reports.

    Hey Tips, just a quick question.
    Has anyone addressed the problem of how Blizz's current server tech would fare without the use of sharding? Just occurred to me, because the "modern" servers can't handle a couple of 40 man raids in one zone with War mode on, everything starts to lag.

    The thing with savix was more than mass reporting, it was flagged as him exploiting rbgs by trading wins (my friend was on the other team) both of them got one month bans which was then later appealed ONLY because someone was streaming the RBG. I was mass reported by a rival guild on my server as soon as I got aotc because they got jealous that I cleared heroic first, I’m sitting on a one month ban myself with NO APPEAL. This system is so fucking flawed it’s astonishing.

    I think the problems are even deeper than the correct reasons you've given in the video. The number of times I've seen someone reply 'Great!' or 'So what?' when told that Classic service will have a negative impact on the retail servers' populations should make anyone wanting to play Classic terrified that an easy to abuse system like that exists. Classic only exists because of a personality type that is more willing to complain, (not accept the reality of their situation), and that is more willing to disrupt other peoples' enjoyment for their own benefit. I'm not saying that includes a level of pettiness that would guarantee a propensity to abuse a system like that but there's no denying that it's high enough to absolutely increase the chances of it happening. Either way, I definitely agree with your opinion on adding in a manual review but they should also have bans, (even if only a temporary 30 day ban), for anyone found to be abusing this system.

    I'm pretty sure disabling report system for classic WoW is infinitely easier to do than to change the entire system of reports to no longer be auto. The system is auto because all the companies are relying on algorithms to do the job humans did before to cut their expenses. If anything, Blizzs integrating this deeper and deeper into their services. Of course it would be perfect to have GMs back and sort every encounter manually (hell, it's one of the most iconic things of early WoW), but who knows? Maybe this will be screwed up by modern Blizz.

    I remember playing classic WOW back in 2004 when it was first released. It was competitive as f@#$. No matter which side you were on, horde or alliance, you hustled for everything. Ore, mobs, hides, everything. If there was a specific named animal you wanted to train for a pet, you could practically guaranty you'd be waiting in line behind other hunters. If there was a named boss you had to kill for a quest..ditto. Sometimes, things would get dicey if there were horde and alliance together and fights would break out. Before you knew it there would be people showing up from everywhere. The ground would be littered with the skeletons of the dead, it was fantastic! Now imagine that same scenario, your waiting for the opportunity to tame that pet or kill that boss or mine that Ore when little Johnny and his friends show up wanting the same thing. Only they don't feel like waiting their turn because they're time is much to valuable to them to be wasted by something as frivolous as courtesy and respect. So they just decide to get you out of the way by right click reporting you. No thank you! I hope all of the "if it's not original it's not for me" chanters out there can stop crying about what the graphics will be like in classic WOW and realize that this is by far a much bigger concern. Thanks.
