    Also something had to slip and in this case it was the special only on 2 weapons. Inkjet seems pretty obviously based off jetpacks but if anyone has extra details about it, feel free to mention in the replies. The propane tank on Hydra could actually be a fire extinguisher, in the French localisation, the weapon is called "Extinteur" a pun on "Extincteur" aka a fire extinguisher and "tinter" aka tint aka painter. That would push the fire fighting theme further

      Another point for Bamboozler is that its partially based off the M14 rifle. It's use in lore is similar to the use of the M14 IRL. The iron sights it has are pretty much the same as the iron sights on the M14. The full name of the bamboozler is, "Bamboozler 14 mk I" and the 14 comes from the M14, and you could argue the mk I comes from the upgraded form of the M14, the MK14

    Some other little bonus details I think are fun:
    The Aerosprays names, the MG, RG, and PG, are references to Gundam Force figurines, which are referred to in various "grades" based on scale. MG = Master Grade, 1:100 models, RG = Real Grade, 1:144 models, and PG = Perfect Grade: 1:60 models. As for why there's a Gundam reference there, well, customizing those models using paint from an airbrush a a pretty popular thing in the Gundam fandom especially over in Japan. Over here the in the west, we do the same, though it's more popular with Warhammer 40K models to my knowledge.
    While the N-Zap '85 references the NES Zapper's original release in 1985. They were released again with a new orange colour in 1989, hence the name N-Zap '89. The N-Zap '83 refers not to an actual NES Zapper, but rather the release date of the original Famicom, which was in 1983. Its look is also themed after the Famicom's gold and red colouring.
    Specifically the Ballpoint Splatling is a reference to a specific variety of ballpoint pen which contains multiple different colours of ink. They're very popular with kids.
    The reason the Tetra Dualies are based off shoes is because they're manufactured by Tentatek, the clothing brand, which mainly sells shoes (though they have some clothes and headgear as well like all clothing brands.) Notably Tentatek doesn't make the Tentatek Splattershot, it's just a sponsored collab with the weapon brand, Splat.

    • @TheRealBlazingDiamond
      @TheRealBlazingDiamond Před rokem +3

      Also, the Tetra Dualies are based off of an actual pistol with two barrels, that was popular because of it's small size. The twin barrels mean that you could slot two bullets at the same time and have them oriented in a vertical manner, unlike revolvers which need a bit of horizontal space as well, meaning it was thin, easy to conceal, and gave you a back-up shot if the first didn't work according to plan. It was apparently very popular with women too, as an added fun fact

    @SmugLookingBarrel Před rokem +48

    My favourite reference is the Squeezer, because its unique firing mode is based on the fact that if you open a bottle of champagne (which is carbonated) that you've shaken too long, the pressure from the carbonated gas can cause the cork to pop out and fly a little bit, and then the drink sprays out, which explains the Squeezer's firing modes: You get one strong, long range, accurate shot, and then the rest of your shooting is just ink fizzing out in a cone.

    For the Splat Charger, I think with the pump on the back it's meant to resemble one of those water guns that you push on the pump to release air from within the tube, then dip in the water so when you pull the pump back the gun fills with water. Since the entire splat weapon series (splattershot, Nova, Jr) seem to be based around water guns, I think the charger is meant to be one of the pump/tube water guns.
    Also, besides just being a ball toss, the Wave Breaker reminds me in shape and structure of badminton shuttlecock, as well as the name literally being the same as those star shaped wave breakers commonly used on Japanese shorelines

    The Aerospray airbrush reference goes even deeper with the titles for each aerospray (MG, RG, PG) being references to one of Japans favorite pass times: model kit building. The titles themselves referencing Gundam model kits specifically and their scales of Master Grade, Real Grade, and Perfect Grade. So far the kits even match their respective grades quality: the MG is fairly solid(detailed sturdy inner frame) with a good sub and while not the highest quality special(less surface detail) it has plenty of it while the RG has an extremely good special (extreme surface detail) but is pretty fragile(small delicate inner frames) due to a weak sub. If the trend continues the PG will have both an *excellent* sub and special (incredible surface/inner frame detail and sturdy frame) but have a big BIG special cost(perfect grades are really big and expensive)

    About the Ballpoint, it’s worth mentioning that it’s based specifically off of a MULTICOLOR pen, in which each color has to get its own ink cartridge with its own ball-point applicator. The levers on the original push their respectively colored ink cartridge forward and out the hole at the front, and only one can poke out at a time. Pushing another forward will cause the first to snap back into the housing under spring load.

It would also explain why most of the older weapons are based on painting tools or weaponry (Since they'd need to have been developed for the Great Turf War) while more recent additions are more everyday items, when they're being developed for sport.

    I also have some personal ideas as to the inspirations behind some elements, so here they are! The Crab Tank may be based off of Bakugan and subsequent magnet-triggered pop-open toys! The way it pops up and opens from its rolling state definitely reminds me of them! Also the Big Swig Roller has a giant bendy straw holding up the roller sponge! The way the ink flows down on the Splash Wall and the way the "arms" are modeled makes me think of irrigation tubing, which is held by plastic parts and irrigates plants from holes along its length!

  • @The21stGamer

    The Splat Bomb's square pyramid design is actually a really nice detail. The design makes it so that when the bomb impacts the ground a lot of that force will go into the tubes around the sides instead of directly into the ink bag in the middle, keeping it from bursting prematurely. I'm pretty sure a pyramid type design is actually used in egg dropping competitions to keep the egg safe.

    I actually think the Rapid Blasters are, or at least were, based on nail guns. They're hard to pin down (ironically), but if you look at different models of framing nail guns you can see they have the same aggressively flared tips that the Rapids have - it would also explain their Splatoon 1 and 2 designs, which were a lot less smooth and didn't have the same orange tip. That being said, it's entirely possible that the reason for their Splatoon 3 redesigns was to play into the nerf/airsoft theming mentioned in this video, since that's a lot more identifiable and they did always seem a little out-of-place otherwise.
