I got an MPA and have worked for the US federal government for the last 17 years. My advice to you is to specialize in a particular area and supplement your degree with a certification of some sort. But more importantly, and this is where most people fail, you need to develop your network and figure out how to make yourself stand out and do not think that a degree alone will help you do so.

I have just recently graduated with my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and am looking into grad school. I am trying to decide if I still want to pursue my Masters in Social Work, or if I would like to pursue an MPA. I've mainly had entry-level experience with non-profits but am looking to step into more leadership/managerial roles. I love youth work and the connections I make, but I believe it has served its purpose.
I’m in the same boat, I’m scared to take the leap bc I don’t want to lose the opportunity to work with youth like education

@@dameonwilkes1609 If I went into social work, I would have to do clinical hours and I just don’t have the flexibility to do so because of bills lol. I’ve only done non-profit work so I’m trying to decide between and MPA or in MS in Human Resources.

This holistic approach is grounded in the perspective that policy challenges are fluid, interconnected, and global. This perspective will give you the tools you need to drive change at the local, national, and international levels.This will be extremely marketable.
Most students in my experience who pursued this were interested in academic careers, although some find work as researchers at think tanks, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

Anytime a professional like yourself wants to grow I think it's a great plan. Just make sure you are looking at the current job market for your area to make the right choice for employment after you graduate. Never be afraid to work backwards.

Educational Management is very different from Public Administration. Both these focus areas are lucrative. I suggest meeting with your university advisor to discuss options. A smart approach is to ask your university to inform you of where individuals form both degrees have ended up. This way you can see what you can also do with both in the job market.

Public administration focuses on producing public policies and coordinating public programs on the other hand, Public management is a sub-discipline of public administration that involves conducting managerial activities in public organizations. Great question. I suggest going back to your university and meeting with a career advisor there. They have data from all students in your major and where they have ended up. This can be a very good way for you to know which employers have hired your major form your school and then you can network with them for a job.

public admin usually means the act of actually carrying out policy. public policy is more researching. Public affairs is generally a mix of the two. They all involve government.
Richmond, Public administration is a field in which student learn how to serve communities to advance the common good and effect positive change. Public administration students end up being professionals that are equipped with skills to manage at all levels of government (local, state, and federal) as well as nonprofit organizations.
I suggest taking a look at your college manual to review the degree and its requirements. The catalogue at your school will list all the classes to take and what will be needed to complete the degree.
